A development similar to Tony Romo may be closer to the current situation.
Exactly right.

Tony Romo didn't throw his first regular season pass until his fourth season. In fact, there are no stats associated with his first year which was the same as Jason Witten's, 2003. Tony did participate in games his 2nd and 3rd season as the holder for field goals. The vast majority of so called "developmental" quarterbacks have their process cut short due to injuries or performance issues by the QB's in front of him.

However, Bill Parcells is one of the very rare coaches that saw the entire process through. There are only three QB's that I've found that didn't throw a single pass in two seasons and still ended up being a starter for a season at some point in their career. Two were under Parcells, Tony Romo and Jeff Hostetler. The other was under Tom Landry and that was Gary Hogeboom.

The Cowboys have tried to develop QB's in the past but failed to follow through with the process. Two examples are Chad Hutchinson and Drew Henson, both ex-baseball players.

Trey Lance, despite his draft position, should have been a developmental player from the start. He only played in 17 college games and was far too raw for the pros.. It could be that the 49ers had little choice, I seem to recall a major injury to Garoppolo.

This is what Lance was asked to do in San Fran and they determined he can’t even do it better than Sam Darnold. Let that sink it.
Tbh they say that but I really don’t think they wanted to listen to the toxic environment of the qb you traded 3 1s for playing behind a 7th rounder lol

Yeah but you know what's even more dumb than that? Trading a QB you used 3 1st round picks for a 4th rounder lol. You could at least sell it as he's injured and he's working on his game. Hell just like he's doing in Dallas. No one thinks twice about the fact he's behind Cooper Rush on the depth chart.

Lance went to the 49ers and requested out.
They got what they could for him.

And he shouldn't be on the minds of Cowboys fans for this season.

He requested out after it came out he would back up Sam Darnold.
I knew that. Bottom line - Lance didn't want to stay and compete his way up from the bottom of the totem pole.
SF staff & FO abided his trade request.

Now we wait to see what the Cowboys can do with Lance in 2024.
I'm not concerned with him this season - nor should other Cowboys fans.

You may not be concerned with him this season, but the Cowboys have to decided by May 1, 2024, if they are willing to exercise his 5th year option at 22+M for a backup QB. How can he even be evaluated if he's not playing?

Season lost..mop up duty....somehow.

The only way they pick up that option is if he's forced into action this year (due to injuries) and he plays well. Otherwise, that's not even considered.

They could still offer him an extension at back up QB money, regardless. Then it's up to him and his agent to take it or not.

Listen, if you want the cowboys to move on from Dak. That’s fine. You’re entitled to have that position.

But in what reality is Lance breathing down Dak’s neck? Lance has been on the team one month. Has barely any practice reps with the team.

If he is going to replace Dak he needs mode
Time before that happens.

Get real.
This place has been inundated with the ignorant of late.

That’s dumb. He doesn’t even know the offense yet and you want him to play before Rush? Lance needs to play in the USXFL league for a couple years. I knew the igowere going to come out with BS like this.

Ever heard of the 'thousand yard stare'? It's a military thing for combat vets who are shell shocked and just stare out into emptiness because their mind is so messed up. They are emotionally detached from the traumatizing things going on around them. Occasionally we see Dak doing this, but when he does it we refer to it as his 'deer in the headlights' look. The two seem a bit similar....

Anyway, Dak is sitting on the bench by himself because he keeps doing the crazy eye stare thing that he does. He scares everyone.
I've heard of the thousand hot dogs stare. Like the stare of a woman who ate at of.processed meats...

Just kidding. I can say from experience that PTSD is no joke, and definitely feel for those vets.
