You know a lot of these guys get their deals redone a year early, right? Like we did with Zeke.
That was my point. The best and most expensive player of the three (Parsons) for example isn't even eligible for an extension until 2024 and the extension wouldn't even begin till 2026.......

That's why i'm laughing at "oh yeah there intentionally being cheap in the year 2022 for these deals that are still years away" (not only that injuries happen so there's no guranteed all 3 of these deals even happen).

I keep hearing that they're hoarding money to resign players currently on the roster (Parsons, diggs, lamb) but that's not really how this works.

Those players still have at least 2 years of cheap money before the extensions would even go through

Not only that even if it was hypothetically those three players last year of their rookie deal most extensions have very low first year cap hits (signing bonuses are almost always large upfront cash payments that are prorated further down the contract)
Next year will be Diggs 4th year which he was a 2nd round pick. It will be Lambs 4th year which we might be looking ahead on his .

Not to mention it will be 4th year of Daks contract as well which most feel he’ll be looking for another deal before current deal matures. Zeke is another one which actually matures this year or final year of guarantee . And we still haven’t done a deal with Shultz on Franchise Tag.

I’m not sure who else’s contract might be due for negotiations next year . But I think they are anticipating the need for this Cap space albeit the excellent point you made that new contracts are usually back loaded with minimal hits on cap initially with signing bonuses.

Remember teams are mandated to use a certain percentage of their Cap.

Anthony Brown is a serviceable corner in this league.
He does. However I dont think he would have a ton of value to Jacksonville who would want more long term assets. He'd be of more value to a top 14 team that needs CB's

Yep certainly take both. If we are really high on Little I dont think a 2nd+ a throw in from the roster is a bad thing. It'll mean Tyler stays at LG and potentially turns a question mark into a strength especially as Little's got 3 years left on his rookie deal.

The problem (as most of us will identify), is that Stephen doesnt appear to by the kind of GM that will go out and make an offer....it's as if he see's that as a weakness and he's afraid that if he makes the first move he loses the bargaining position (and Daddy will be disappointed if he messes up again Randy deal).

If we had a proactive FO we'd see that Jacksonville will have to get rid of at least one Tackle, we need to take advantage and rather than wait for the Jags to decide which one, start working on a potential deal....Stephen deals are made on win/win, if you hope you're bound to end up with the castoff.

Edit: the above @75boyz ....now we appear to be interested in Little. I wonder if this is 'a leak' from our FO with a view/hope that the Jaguars make the first move. Yet again Stephen has misread the market as the Jaguars (if it is a close call between Little/Traore/Van Lanen) will just hold onto all three (someone will get that mysterious injury) as they know they wont pass waivers.

Stephen, get out there and make the first move....he's like a Prom Date Virgin, too timid to ask a girl for a date.

- Eric Fisher. Been discussed ad nauseum. You are gonna over pay him, because he wants money and really he is mediocre. But he is also just enough on the right side of mediocre of have played LT on two Super Bowl teams. I think he is the best option if you want Tyler to eventually be your LT. I really dont think you want Smith there in 2022

-Walker Little. Talented and only 23. Supposedly the Cowboys are very high on him. Plays the one position Jacksonville is actually strong at, so may be attainable. Downside is, its gonna cost you in draft compensation. They arent just going to give him away. It will probably cost a 2nd and maybe another pick. However that could also bring in your long term LT
So Jacksonville is just gonna trade their starting left tackle to the Cowboys just because the Cowboys need one and on top of that get their franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence killed ya this is on track for the dumbest post of the year!

The only way that I could see them trading for Little is them seeing him as a long term starter for the team. It would be stupid to trade away a high pick just to get thru one season.

Here’s an interesting thought, what about BOTH? Fisher for the short term and Little for the long term?

So what happens to Tyler in that scenario?

optimally, you could find a guy that could play LT this year and then slide to guard to replace McGovern next year while Tyler takes his spot at LT. I thought Wynn could perhaps be that guy, but then you have to negotiated a longer term contract after this year.

I think so. If they actually think that this team is capable of accomplishing anything this year.

I really don’t think Tyler Smith is ready and I think if they put him out at left tackle now he’ll struggle badly and it might ruin him.
Smith wouldn’t be the first OT that got ruined by playing them too soon. If a young OT loses his confidence, it is hard to get it back and overcome it.

Tyler stays at LG, where I feel he belongs.

Yeah. I think that often times when they lose their confidence some never recover.
