The upside about not bringing in a better backup QB

Wrong...Jerry and Stephen said yesterday that they know Foles well and he is not now or never an option to be the backup QB for the Cowboys.
The case is closed on Mr. Foles. Next guy up???
 
The only time it's worth having a good backup quarterback is if your team is an unquestionable Super Bowl contender. Otherwise, if you lose your quarterback for three games, you hand the ball off and play good defense and go 2-1. If you miss your quarterback for 10 games, you go 3-13 and get the high draft choice. The last thing you want to do is go 4-6 under an OK veteran and miss out on both.

I didn't say all teams, I said most. If you've got a good backup, or if you've got a really good defense you can still win the passing effectiveness differential game, sure.

We don't really have either of those though. And last year was definitely more than just losing Tony Romo, I agree. We lost multiple offensive playmakers, didn't take care of the ball, couldn't take it away, and lost 11 close games on a series of penalties, gaffes, mental errors, and bad officiating. We wer snake bit from the start, for sure.

Im of a similar thought and if its a game or two that we need to go to him, Moore should be able to win a game with the talent around him. I do believe Romo is going to have a big bounce back season, but if we need an upgrade to backup qb and were pushing for the playoffs im sure we could go get someone. Heck why not give Manning a call at that point.

Totally agree a 3 game stretch of 2 and 1 or 1 and 2 is manageable for Moore with the talent around him and his knowledge of the offense if hes needed..Once you get to 5 games thats a lot to ask from a backup QB and think the Cowboys recognize that.

Entering training camp with Kellen Moore and a rookie 4th round pick isn't what they wanted at backup QB. If it was Stephen Jones wouldn't have said backup QB would be one of the teams top priorities entering the offseason and the Cowboys wouldn't have made a desperate attempt to trade up for Lynch in the draft.

The problem is we had a top 5 pick THIS year and even though we weren't inclined to, we still wouldn't have even gotten a sniff of the top two QBs. And this is in a below average QB class. No, if you're going to tank for a QB you basically have to plan on being the worst team in the league, and that's pretty hard to do in a 32 team group.

They knew Foles well from watching him beat us in a season finale elimination game that had the NFC East on the line in 2013. Foles is a better option at backup QB than Kellen Moore and I don't care what Jerry and Stephen said. Foles won 4 of his first 7 starts last season for a Rams team that doesn't have near the talent the Cowboys have. The Cowboys have a more talented offense than any Foles has played for.

Jerry and Stephen thought Cassel would be a better option than Brandon Weeden last season and they were wrong! Our braintrust threw away two 7th round picks during the season on players that are no longer with the team. According to those who run the team they knew Gregory well. lol Training camp is just about to start and Garrett is saying we are gonna move on from some players when they should have moved on from them months ago.

This hypothetical only works if you assume Romo gets hurt early in the season. What if this team plays well and positioned itself for the playoffs and Romo gets hurt in Week 13-14?

What's positive about our backup QB situation? If there was anything positive about it we wouldn't have made a desperate attempt to trade up for Paxton Lynch. We're left with Moore and Dak as our backup QBs because we got stuck. The top 2 QBs were off the board and and our trade offer to move up for Lynch was declined.

You can gripe and carry-on all you like but, Jerry, Stephen and Will McClay are the ones to make personnel decisions and sign the checks. I know you don't care what Jerry thinks and that's a funny position to be in cause he said they Like (Love) Moore and he's staying put. In the end, you will just have to accept it or move on to another team like the Deadskins. They're the winners from last year, right?

If they "love" Moore how come Stephen said backup QB would be one of the teams top priorities entering the offseason? If they "love" Moore how come the team made a desperate attempt to trade their #2 and #3 to move back in the first round for Paxton Lynch? They're backing Moore because he's all they got along with a 4th round draft pick to try and save our season if Romo goes down again.

I'll try to answer as best I can. They valued Lynch over all the other QB's in the draft and wanted to get him if they could work a deal. They wanted him in place of Prescott not in place of Moore... Mr. Moore was always the backup QB plan going forward and the OC is getting his man to work with. Lynch would have been the QB they would have invested time in training as an eventual replacement for Romo. That's my take on what took place and it's just my opinion and you can certainly have a different one.

How much can you love or even like a QB when you offer a #2 and #3 for the third QB in the draft? Of course Moore is staying put all we have left at backup is a rookie 4th round pick.

That was a bad answer. They valued Lynch over Moore and the team made that obvious on draft day. No team is going to offer a #2 and a #3 especially with the defensive needs the Cowboys had to move back in the first round for a 3rd QB...GET REAL! The Cowboys were looking for a backup and a possible replacement for Romo down the road with Lynch which is why they offered so much.

If Moore was always the backup QB plan Stephen Jones would have never said backup QB would be a top priority entering the offseason and the team wouldn't have made a desperate attempt to go after Lynch in the draft. Your take couldn't be more wrong because the teams statements immediately entering the offseason and the actions they took on draft day to try and trade up for Paxton Lynch are proof that you're wrong.
