This was a hard hit, but I don't see how it's a penalty. Fields was running what is he supposed to do?
...exactly. Thats first scenario I concluded with. Qb was running, he is now a ball carrier. What is he suppose to do?

BS call from Refs. Its ok, because when Rico fumbled the ball on GL. On replay, Fergs was holding a Pitt player while going down.
We lucked out. IF they see it, that 10 yds back. Big difference going forward.

I think football Gods, let us have that in compensation for Wheat call.. lol...

No, Wheat didn't hit either his head or neck. Neither.
Not what I asked. I said head or neck "area." That's what's in the rules state verbatim. Again, even so, the rules say he can even hit lower than those areas and still get a penalty for hitting someone in a defenseless posture. So did he hit him in the head or neck "area" or lower and while in a defenseless posture as defined by the rules, having just thrown a pass?

I already said he didn't. If he did, then you could hit someone in the foot and it could be considered the head and neck "area". After all, the foot is connected to the leg which is connected to the hip, etc. etc. Sort of like the hold song.

The whole purpose of the rule is to prevent concussions, either by hitting the head or neck bones which can be driven into the head.

The chest is NOT "head or neck area". If you think so, fine, but I don't.

It wasn't a penalty.

So he didn't hit him in the head or neck area or lower according to the rule for defenseless posture? I guess he didn't touch him at all and that was a mighty gust of wind. Lol. Appreciate the tap dance though.

Define "lower", as the NFL defines it, if that's the issue.

Inquiring minds want to know, lol...

ARTICLE 9. PLAYERS IN A DEFENSELESS POSTURE. It is a foul if a player initiates unnecessary contact against a player
who is in a defenseless posture. A player who initiates contact against a defenseless opponent is responsible for avoiding an
illegal act. A standard of strict liability applies for any contact against an opponent, even if his body position is in motion, and
irrespective of any acts by him, such as ducking his head or curling up his body in anticipation of contact.
(a) Players in a defenseless posture are:
(1) A player in the act of or just after throwing a pass (passing posture).
.
.
(b) Prohibited contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture is listed below. However, these provisions do not prohibit
incidental contact by the mask or helmet in the course of a conventional tackle or block on an opponent:
(1) forcibly hitting the defenseless player’s head or neck area with the helmet, facemask, forearm, or shoulder, even if the
initial contact is lower than the player’s neck, and regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle
the defenseless player by encircling or grasping him;

I mean, pretty textbook. Penalty all day.

Textbook until it’s Dakota

In the ohio state - Iowa game...the Hawkeyes Qb took some hard hits. God bless him...but if you are gonna stand in there and throw sidearm through the defenders armpit...then you gotta take your shots.

In this case, yes.

It was pretty close. I don't think anybody here would have a problem with it if it was our quarterback getting hit like that and a flag coming out.
Most on here would love our QB to be hit like that. Then would stand up for the refs if it was not called.

They should just make the QB a flag football player at this point.
