It is ignorance. I just explained how so in the comment before yours.
oh i know exactly what your position is, and I disagree. not every fan is going to prioritize the (potential) long term vision over immediate gratification, and that's fine. things don't always pan out how you hope, and nothing beats in the moment. that's not ignorance it's just human nature. and again, in the hands of the joneses, nothing is guaranteed, and jeanty is not the surefire answer.

I don’t know WTH to think. I don’t like rooting to lose, but I also know that rock bottom is necessary for any type of possible change at the top, which is absolutely necessary if they are ever going to be able to not be soft enough to get to the next level.

It’s an odd situation to be in but that’s what we have with current ownership. They think they are better than they are, same as they do with certain players.
A couple weeks ago I think this was a good debate, but now I don't really see a point in rooting for the tank. The wins the last couple of weeks have really killed this teams chance at hitting rock bottom and a very high pick. I'd rather see guys like Overshown continue to develop and help this team.

In the teens? Surely no one will take him higher up right? Don’t win meaningless games and lose out on rb 1. We need jeanty

Who is the one player needed to lift this team, one of the lowest scoring teams in the league?
An impact, game wrecking RB, who can score in the red zone as did Tony Dorsett, Herschel Walker, Emmitt Smith and a young Zeke, and who had game-breaking speed.

Just as Juan Soto is a major impacting player, who hits in the clutch, who hits against the best pitchers in baseball, the Cowboys lack the dominating RB who can takeover the game and make the QB's job much easier.

The Boys need Boise State Ashton Jeanty badly, but winning is pushing this union away from reality. Jeanty is Emmitt Smith with breakaway speed. He will improve the passing game. Teams will fear him and he will open up passing lanes. He stands out head over shoulders above any other RB.

Continuing to win this year, we will lose out on Jeanty, Abdul Carter and Mason Graham, guys who can contribute as rookies. If all three are gone, I would pick Ohio State WR burner if available. If not, trade down twice and get two extra high picks

With a proven 30 year record of poor salary cap management, making free agent signings of very good players unrealistic, this team needs serious impact players who may not be available in the first round if we win more games.

Imagine this team without Turpin and our "uber" ( super in German) place kicker Aubrey. They have covered up the lack of offensive firepower. Look at the points scored this year of NFL teams. The Boys are near the bottom. This team needs offensive firepower more than anything else. Terrence Williams and Michael Gallop produced more early as 3rd round picks than any receivers on this team other then Lamb than. Tolbert is a decent 4th or 5th receiver. He cannot carry the team or make big plays.

I’m not interested in losing for a draft pick that could go bust. The last top 10 pick we had went bust. Check the history of high draft picks. For every one that develops into a great player, at least two go bust or become no better than average. All our best players currently including Parsons were drafted after the top 10. There’s some teams that have high picks practically every year because they end up bad every year. To build a great team you need to hit on a number of picks throughout the draft. Even if you hit big on a top 10 pick they’re only going to plug one hole.

If winning games keeps us from drafting Jeanty, I’m happy about it. RB is less urgent than front 7 on defense and o-line if Martin retires and Steele is cut.

I agree, when it comes to draft position. As I’ve posted recently, if they lose one more game in 2020 there’s a very good shot they end up with Horn instead of Parsons, so you just never know. I don’t believe they would have taken Parsons at 8-9 since they were willing to risk dealing down.

The part that bothers me is them thinking they are “close,” and I don’t really believe they are. They could be with a great draft and they sign like three FA starters, but they won’t. They will count on mid round picks to hit their upside immediately. Don’t look now but safety is about to become a problem again, and they will need to open the wallet to keep the DTs they have that clearly aren’t good enough. They need at least one more playmaker on offense also and hope the youngins on the OL come through.

This team needs fire power on both sides of the ball. But I am excited about the future of my beloved DALLAS COWBOYS.Right off the top of my head I think we need , A big monster Defensive tackle , a running back with speed and power .And a wide reciever to complement Cee Dee Lamb.

You know what they're not losing out on anyone it's just about how the draft falls to you we have so much need you really can't miss cause BPA will come head on with need this year pretty much any position although I would start with a lot of those that you talked about but we did get guys like CD lamb at 17 Michael Parsons at 12 Trayvon diggs in the second round literally because we're winning and not doing this fan narrative called tanking that word was made-up by fans true professional sports teams players and coaches do not do that on purpose no one goes out to lose a game you go out to win every game and however it shakes out it'll shake out but there are gonna be some of those players fall TJ Watt went where like 27 I mean guys like him will fall and we would pick up a guy like that we happen to need a pass rusher if he falls there that's who you take because there's pretty much gonna be a top BPA guy at most any position mostly pass rusher running back and wide receiver come to mind interior defensive tackle somebody in the top of every round that we're picking at say 15 just to be honest that's probably the worst that we're gonna end up getting we have picked around that area before 15 to 18 and got guys I just mentioned you act like you have to be in a certain place in the draft to get good players there are players all across the draft in the 6th 7th round that people have hit on you just have to hit on them and it's difficult but it's not gonna change anything because we want a few extra games this year...

I wish fans would stop focusing on it acting as if all those players gonna be gone by the time we pick I've seen drafts where guys fell to us that should have never been there but given this year we need so much across this team we can even use another outside linebacker hybrid Micah Parsons type or overshone if he's there yes you take him but we need it all I mean most likely it's a deep draft for running backs jeanty is not the only great running back in this draft I know everyone wants to think that how do we know this kids not gonna come in here or wait a minute mileage and only give you 3 good years he's being used like a lot and we don't know if he's gonna turn into a guy like Henry who takes care of his diet and his body like no other and is an anomaly in this league or he's gonna be like Ezekiel Elliott who had four good years and that was it you're going to pick a guy that high in the first you wanna get more than four years out of him so I might get in the second round acting like there's only one great back in this draft when I hear it's a very deep draft for running backs... And I know as good as Janty is I almost would rather have a little bit more juice a little bit more speed guy like Gibbs because you can use players like Rico you can get guys like him to do The Dirty work the tough yardage whatever but you need a guy with juice not just a guy you can hand it to 30 * a game and I realize he looks like that but in my opinion I'd rather have a little slightly power guy that's fast again in the gibbs mold... I'm sure there's a back in the second round that you can get that fits that bill it's way too early to discuss it but you could go do the research but I think people are overreacting to what we might lose because of a few wins and I think it's a very big overreaction... Don't get me wrong I'd like the kid but maybe picking later in the round is better maybe he does fall to 15 or 16 and it makes it easier to pick him there than it would be if we were in the top ten I would have to question that pick you do realize Derrick Henry went in the second round right so there are guys there I get the concern but I think it's a little bit of an overreaction...

Fans arguing the wins are pointless because it drops the draft pick.

How about all draft picks are pointless until Jethro no longer runs the team?

It's less urgent in top of the first round yes but the way he's talking actually it would be better if we fell to the middle of the round to pick a guy like him it's a tough decision to pick a guy in the top ten and a running back you can get in the second round there are plenty more great running backs in this draft and I'd rather have one with a little more juice tell you the truth I want a Gibbs type we got a guy like Rico you can get guys like that to fill in your roster at running back and be very good you need that other guy that's game changing speed from the running back position so that way you have both the harder one to find would be the dude with juice so I'd rather look for one of those...

But like I said I take a running back in the first round like Jeanty if that's where we're picking, 15 to 18 he wouldn't be a waste that would be an easier decision but yes you're right we need far more positions but interior D lineman sure wide receiver yes and a pass rusher somebody's gonna be there where we pick in every round we have so much need you take best player available and one of them are gonna fit our team no matter what position they play IMHO

why these fans are scared of dropping a little bit in the draft when there's been a lot of great players at the positions we're discussing that have went at 17 through 31 in the first round they went in the second and third rounds they're great players all over the draft you just have to hit on them gotta pick the right one let's just not pick any TJ watts you know those types that you miss on it should have never been picked you can't make that mistake you need to pick the very best player on your board at just about any position and you should be able to get it right even if we are down in the middle of the rounds instead of at the top...

If we beat the Bengals, you can kiss Jeanty and Kenneth Grant goodbye. If we lose to the Bengals they would still be in play. It's going to be interesting. A win against the Bengals and a Commanders loss to the Titans could possibly happen. Anyway, it's fun regardless.

They're not pointless

we have an NFL team that needs to build a roster.

Realize that posts like this are pointless

what why would you say that this team still needs to function no matter who's running it at the top our coaching Staffs will need players in order to build a roster that's competitive.....

it doesn't matter what you think the draft picks all matter, we need to stop picking a Taco type and not pass on WATT, and make sure we pick the right picks when they fall to us BPA..

this year should be the easiest year to pick given all the holes in this team there's got to be a player ranked very high at one position that you can take in every round, so let's just keep it real here....

I don't care if you have disdain for the ownership, it does matter this team has been a top 6 winning team as far as regular season staying relative and competitive at least to get into the playoffs 5 out of the last eight years we're winning divisions and we're competing...

in order to do so we need players and I realize we all want to go further we want to get past that hump but that does not matter, it does matter that we need to pick the very best draft picks.... Your take and your response on it is ridiculous every team especially those that have been below us for quite so long which I also find ironic right there's about 16 to 20 teams in this league that are worse than the Jerry Jones LED team they're not doing nothing they're doing way less than us they're not even winning their divisions they're never making the playoffs or they make the playoffs once in a blue moon but they don't even get the chance to who's in the playoffs they don't get a chance to host the number two seed in the playoff I realize that we want more but there are far worse things than to be with the Dallas Cowboys have done the last three years prior to this year and it seems like we have one year every five years like it was 2015 and 2020 that we have a rash of injuries we have some things that don't work out we have some bad luck and then we get back on track I prefer that than saying that draft picks don't matter because they do matter it's part of the process teams don't give up their draft spots because ownership in the GM are inadequate you literally gotta keep pushing forward because you have a team to build.

It’s not good.

We are so locked into mediocrity it’s not funny.

We went from getting bigtime impact guys and now it’s looking like a guard or linebacker haha

Maybe we can get in the Jeanty range.
The draft is deep at edge, dtackle, and running back. They have a chance to do well wherever they end up.

They can do what they want in the draft by making a few trades.
And what if they lost the last 2 games, and more games the way some want. Say have a top 5 or a top 10 pick.

What do you expect them to do with it. They will not draft a QB. What, a top OL, LB, DT? I am sure what player or position they draft.
Fans on here will complain. That is the only guarantee. And could be rightfully so. As every fan will have their favorite player to draft, or differing opinions on position.
There is no way they will have a top 5 pick now.

It’s not that he wants mediocrity, they just overrate things like how much impact a rookie can make.

They overrate their veterans as well. Jerry thinks Prescott should be Mahomes because he pays him that way, but he isn’t capable.

And they also don’t “draft well,” or at least as well as people want to claim. 2018 and 2020 were good. Those additions plus what was already here put them within a window to win, but they needed a little extra and wouldn’t spend the money.

The current period of time should have been a natural and acceptable down cycle after making some nice runs the last few years…even if it didn’t end in a championship. But they don’t get the whole cyclical thing which the league is based on.
