I guess we will see, I would think he has already turned down $2M, as he was their first choice and they moved on to Moore because he would take $2M. What ever it is, it is going to be North of $2M. Probably substantially more, cause I would have to believe they would have closed him the first time if there was only a 200K-300k difference in what they where offering and what he was asking.

What can Dallas offer him as far as exataly how much cap space if left?

He's not playing for that. That's exactly why he didn't play last year. He's not the typical dumb football player who blew all his money on cars and making it rain, so he doesn't have to play for cheap.

Last time he played, he was a Pro Bowler on a Super Bowl team. If you want him, you've got to pay him like that. Or else, he's just fine sitting in Denton on his money.

The man has a point.

Even with a year off?

He's a guard. If it wasn't due to injury, or if he didn't spend it at Taco Bueno, it shouldn't be an issue. Three weeks is plenty of time to get ready.

It's not like he's running fly routes.

Here's a bit of information.

Waters signed with the Patriots on Sept 4th 2011 and went on to have a Pro Bowl season and helped New England reach the Super Bowl.

If he can do that for us, he can show up whenever he wants to in my book!

Good point, just sign him and Waters will help us throughout the long season.

Yeah but he still has to be able to move and be in shape... At a very high level, especially if your going to pay the guy 3 million or more like some people on here think he might get. But the more I think of it the more I think they should do it, just give him whatever to get him here, it's only a 1 year deal so there no point in trying to carry that money over to next season when it's just going to come off the books anyway, and I guess if he flames out they can just stick Berny back in there until Livings (if he ever does) gets healthy anyway so it's kind of a low risk high reward signing because if he's remotely close to the player he was Dallas would have a really strong offensive line, possibly even a top 15 in the leauge or better.

I don't think he'll sign until Dallas gets back to Texas. I don't think he's interested at all in training camp, or getting far from home for any extended amount of time.

Even with Waters, there are still some questions that have to be answered before we can be assured of that.

How is Doug Free going to play? Is Tyron Smith's camp struggles only because he's facing Ware or is he still adjusting to the left side? Are Leary and Frederick ready to handle regular-season NFL football and all the games and tricks defenders and coordinators will throw at them?

I feel good about the direction we're heading with the group and feel Waters can be the last piece, but I'll wait to see if it turns out to be as good as we hope it can be.

There are more than 20 teams in the league with equal or more questions on their lines, which makes it odd that you would choose to scrutinize a top 15 ranking prediction.

Personally, I expect us to be top 10 if we get the 2011 Waters.

If so, you better change your "Best Oline for Cowboys" sig!!

waters has no motivation to sign right away...as others have said, if he gets signed, it will be after next week when they abandon California

can't blame the guy for making his own decisions here...

I agree Waters will be a big help and then we can get rid of some dead weight at the guard spot.

I completely agree with you.

And I'm OK with that.

I trust his experience and character enough to believe that he would be 100% ready to go when he did come in.

i hear you but, top 15 isnt an elite line.... if all those things workout that you were saying the oline would be top 5

no way to know if he is football ready or not. he is 37 and has'nt played in a year and a half. i understand they have talked to him but if they want him they will need to act fast because time is getting short. you want him in camp a few weeks to learn the sytem and get familiar with those around him. so we shall see, he is certainly worth looking at

Neither Bernadeau nor Livings are football ready at this point. Waters is clearly better than either.

I guess I'm scrutinizing the "really strong offensive line" more than the ranking. Offensive line wasn't close to being a strength last year no matter where Dallas ranked and right now, we have the same right tackle who struggled, the same left tackle who struggled at times, the same right guard who struggled and two players we have very little knowledge of as far as how they will do.

I hope for the best, but even with Waters at his pre-retirement form, I'm going to question any expectations for this line until it shows it's better than last year's. I like what I saw of Smith, Leary, Frederick and Free in the first preseason game and certainly hope they can build on that.
