The word around town on Brian Waters

so a two year deal for Waters? what happens if he decides not to play after one year?

I'd look to see if a trade is possible first, Waters was a great player but taking that much time off can make it very difficult for anyone to come back and play at a high level especially a player well into his 30s The only guy who did that successfully I can think of is Peyton Manning.

It can't hurt to look at him but like I said see if there is a more reliable option through trade first

I'm sure they're looking at that, too, but mind you most teams are looking to trade for a lineman as opposed to trading one away. Pickings are usually slim, with the best options being a guy like Holland or Cook. I'd rather take a guy like Waters for nothing, than have to trade what will most likely be a future draft pick for a guy like Cook.

Agree with you about Holland and Cook but every year is different, maybe someone could be deep at Guard and thin at TE and take James Hanna instead of a draft pick... With Rosario and Escobar we could afford to trade him, and he's a young talented receiving TE which should get a better player than Holland or Cook... If not Waters will have to due

He doesn't want to sign while there is still a bunch of training camp to go. That's why his price is so high right now. It will come down when it's time to show up and play real games.

His price will not come down. If anything it will go up as time goes by.

I agree, when the Moore thing went south, we lost some of our negotiating position as it became clear we want to do something and how much money we where willing to pay Moore to fill a hole.

We could not afford to trade Hanna.

Good points.

I see this topic is going to be beaten to death.

Some good points but until he actually signs I see him as irrelevant.

That depends.

Generally, I'd agree, but if he took care of himself, it could actually be an advantage. He'd be fresher.

He was the NFL Man of the Year. He's known as a guy of great character. He could be the exception.

Obviously, a thorough physical would be in order.

We could not afford to trade Hanna.

We could not afford to go into the season with Mackenzie Bernardeu as our RG.

We have 3 other TEs that are pretty good receivers and 2 are good blockers (Witten,Rasario)so we could afford to trade him if we got a serviceable RG in return.

Yes, and if he's the best option, that's fine, it's really not that big of a gamble to give him a 1-year 1.5 million dollar contract, I was just saying to see maybe what is out there through trade couldn't hurt either

You are not getting him for any where near 1.5M, it will probably be closer to 3M if not more. He walked away from 1.5 in NE and he knows we where going to give Moore 2M and I am sure he feels and I might agree he is a better player.

Seems Cowboys spoke with him first and went with Moore because he was cheaper.

And from what I've read, Moore got the offer only after Waters turned down that dollar amount.

So, if anything, it will take at least that $2 million (after they get back from Oxnard), if not more.

He's not going to get 3 million from Dallas, maybe the 2 they offered Moore, but I don't even think Dallas can give him 3 mil.... And he did sign a 2 year 3 million dollar contract in 2011.... And now he's taken a year off so I doubt he thinks he's getting 3 million.... I guess we will see

And I'm assuming you we're joking when you said more than 3 mil for 1 year, so I forgot to say lol

don't hold your breath on that trade, it's not going to happen

I guess we will see, I would think he has already turned down $2M, as he was their first choice and they moved on to Moore because he would take $2M. What ever it is, it is going to be North of $2M. Probably substantially more, cause I would have to believe they would have closed him the first time if there was only a 200K-300k difference in what they where offering and what he was asking.

He's not playing for that. That's exactly why he didn't play last year. He's not the typical dumb football player who blew all his money on cars and making it rain, so he doesn't have to play for cheap.

Last time he played, he was a Pro Bowler on a Super Bowl team. If you want him, you've got to pay him like that. Or else, he's just fine sitting in Denton on his money.

The man has a point.
