Would Dak at $55m been the answer to make EVERYTHING else fall in place?

Just curious what number people thought a QB that was the runner up NFL MVP should have signed for?

Now if you say you did not want Dak at all....that is a different conversation. Although letting the NFL runner MVP walkwould have been unprecedented

But assuming you wanted Dak re-signed, what number would have allowed us to fill all of the other holes on this team. Because Jerry has done a masterful job of convincing this fanbase that what we are seeing on the field is because of Daks contract...and that simply blows my mind that people think that is the PRIMARY reason this product sucks!
Let me be clear here. I blame Jerry and Stevie for everything. That said they overpaid Dak. By a lot. No team was going to give him that deal. I understand the price of starting QBs is silly but seeing Dak at that level is just insane. My main point was that back to back 12 win seasons and Jerry saying all in would suggest this team was close yet he has lame duck coach and other big contracts he needs to decide on. Having a $60 mm QB on a team that is on the cusp of a rebuild is hard to fathom. I believe this team needs a RB, 2 WRs, RT, G, DT, 2 DEs and a S. That’s a lot.

So when you say no team was going to give him that deal.....for my education...I am just trying to see what deal you thought other teams would have offered him? And I ask that assuming you are aware what Lawrence, Tua, Jackson, Herbert, Burrow, Cousins, Wilson, Murray, etc...were paid.

What was the QB market this off season? Pittsburgh is out of it now. Wilson’s contract was universally panned. Cousins is mystery. All those other guys were resigned and are much better players than Dak. I personally would have let him walk if I couldn’t trade him. Dallas could have given him a take it our leave it $50 mm deal and it would have got done. They negotiated against themselves for a sub par player and now will reap the whirlwind.

I have a pretty go idea of who Dak is and who he isn't. I am stunned that you think all of the QBs I named are "much better" than Dak. I guess someone forgot to tell the voters because Dak was the NFL MVP RUNNER UP!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think there are 3 superior QBs in the NFL. Then there are about 10 guys that can move up or down depending on your preference. To me, Dak is in amongst those 10. That being said, had they paid Dak $50m as opposed to $60 million....what do you think our record would be?

It is literally the biggest problem we have.
Agreed. Fans want to blame the wrong people. It’s not Dak or McCarthy or Zimmer.
We have a terrible lack of talent required to run the ball and stop the run. Fix those two things, and your big stars like Dak, Parsons, and Lamb would shine. There is no successful team that can’t run and stop it. That’s the main issue Harbaugh is addressing in SD.

You clearly don’t know who Dak is. I used to support him relentlessly here. Gave up a couple years ago after another playoff disgrace. You are mental if you think GMs would take home over Lawrence, Herbert…

Dak has looked terrible this year. Not all on him but he isn’t very good to begin with.

That team sucks. 2 years ago he had them in AFC championship and last year he was hurt. He also just turned 25. If you think GMs would pick Dak over Lawrence I don’t know what to say to you. Jerry loves your type.

That was the definition of an embarrassing loss. Fourth straight loss at home, where the Cowboys average giving up 42 points per game in 2024. A really bad smell is coming out of AT&T and the list of what stinks the worst when a football team loses this badly usually starts with the head coach, the QB, the coordinators, the players getting paid the most. And those people all stunk it up Sunday vs the lions.

But my fellow Cowboys fans, as frustrating as it was watching the lions absolutely embarrass us in our home palace, the worst smell coming out of the “stayjum” is not the players and coaches. The stink worse than a trash bag of rotten food sitting in the Texas heat for a week is coming from the owner’s box, where the oldest General Manager in NFL history sits surrounded by his entitled children. All with their lifetime contracts and a talent for refusing to hold themselves accountable.

So when you feel the frustration of another embarrassing loss, and a dim future for this team, try to remember that the guy who owns and runs this once proud franchise like his personal fantasy football gig has done all these things:
  • Hired all six head coaches we’ve had in the last 29 years since our last SB appearance and last divisional playoff win.
  • Hired eight different offensive coordinators and eight different defensive coordinators in that time.
  • Seen 9 different starting QBs in that 29 year period, two of which have earned top dollar at the time in Romo and Prescott.
  • Had multiple current and future Hall of Fame players on the team with none of them ever experiencing even one divisional playoff win.
The winning owners of the last 28 SBs all had this in common: They hired someone else to be their GM.

So the next time Dak throws a bad pick, the running game averages 2.6 yards in a game, Lamb quits on a route, the defense gives up over 40 points at home and over 500 yards, and the HC looks lost, just remember who hired ALL those guys. And remember he’s been in charge of everything from “jocks to socks” all these years.

The worst smell coming out of AT&T is in the owner’s box. That is the where all this started.
True. The only way to fix this team is to hire a real GM and clean house (coaches and players). We know that wont happen.

listen....I am not the biggest Dak fan....but are you holding Lawrence to the same standard you are holding Dak to? Dak has won 12 games 3 times and he has won 13 games. Dak has also led the league in passing yards/TDs and was NFL runner up MVP...you just completely ignore that and elevate Trevor Lawrence? Trevor Lawrence has gone 3=13, 9-8, 8-8, and is currently 1-5. Tell me how that would play out in Dallas if that was Daks track record in his first 4 seasons?

I know this will never happen but my respect for Mike McCarthy would increase if he stood at a podium tomorrow and just announced that for the rest of this year, “I’m in control of this football team, and we are going to do things my way.” LOL! Why not? What does he have to lose?

Send a public message to JJ that if he’s going down it will be on his terms. As I said it will never happen but it would sure be fun if he did. The rest of the year might even be more fun.
Would be great an I understand what you are saying, but for shame, MM has the spine of a mouse.

Comparing Dak to Trevor is like comparing apples to apples, what is the point.

In his second season he accomplished what Dak has not. Lawrence is 25. A number 1 pick. Won a national championship as a teen. They are not even in the same category. You say you don’t love Dak. Sure seems like you do.

One clarification…I don’t hate Jerry…I HATE losing. Im sick of it. Jerry is the main cause of all that because he’s in charge of it all.

And I hate the insanity of doing the same things by the same people over and over and over again, somehow
expecting that the results will be different. We’ve had three decades of this stuff. When will enough be enough?
This.

What I know is the way this forum views Dak today...and I cannot even imagine the chaos if Dak went 3-13, 9-8. 8-8 and we were currently 1-5......and Jerry extended him. Tell me I'm mistaken.

I understood that
I actually agree that it is an apples to apples comparison. There are not many elite QBs. Dak is not one. Trevor is not one. Elite QBs don't grow on trees. So like the rest of the NFL...Dallas extended their non-elite QB. But extending your non-elite QB to big money does not mean you just "roll the ball on the field". Like every other team in the NFL..your job as a billion-dollar front office.....is to find a way to field a competitive team. This front office has set this team up to fail....and the Dak extension is just a part of the equation. But this fanbase acts as if paying Dak 50m as opposed to 60m would have solved everything!
