Video: TheFan: Report on Cowboys acquisition of Johnathan Hankins

- Team making an attempt at remedy their biggest weakest on defense - the run defense
i wanted to sign on Hankins as a FA in offseason
keep LBs clean and clog run lanes, .. Serviceable, functional big body.

- If Gallimore is indeed a healthy scratch, and not an injury issue .. not even thought of as even a rotational backup....
and such that even Watkins brought up from practice squad , for the sake of sitting Gallimore.
Then that's Gallimore quite simply in the Dog House with the coaches ... i think it's only a matter of time before we move on from him.

- Watkins should go back to on the practice squad. JAG

Yep. Our DT's have been no bueno most of the season. It's obvious where we need to concentrate in the '23 draft - DT, LB and speedy WR.

Sure would like to have seen some recent tape on him doing what these vids say he does.
I'm familiar with him and his career, but his recent run is a bit unknown to me.

Just saying: Would like to see some recent game tape.

If it's been posted already, I would love to be directed to it.

Thanks in advance.
He got too fat a time or two in his career and didn't play nearly as well as when he was in shape.

He has been a starter until this season.

The Raiders have another 2 down run stopper veteran on the roster. Many teams only carry one of those and 3 pass rush DTs on game days.

In general, coaches have high tolerance levels and are pretty patient. For Gallimore to be in the dog house, they apparently have some serious issues with him. Who knows what but a former GM made an interesting point about DT's. As he put it, most player contracts are based on stats (like it or not) but DT's are often asked to do a lot of dirty work that elevates another position's stats and that kinda forces some of them to freelance a bit going for sacks instead playing to run as coaches ask.

Not sure if this is what's going on with Gallimore at all but to go from starting to inactive with a few games is bizarre.

Always appreciate your insight.
Thank you.

Journeyman . If anything Quinn likes to run bodies in and out it’s depth . Bohana was a 6th rounder not exactly drafted in the Trysten Hill neighborhood and he’s underwhelmed throughout .
No he hasn't. Bohanna has done ok. Better than last year.

On the good side, Hankins is only costing $722,444 for the remainder of this 2022 season.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/dallas-cowboys/johnathan-hankins-12330/#:~:text=Current Contract&text=In 2022, Hankins will earn,dead cap value of $325,000.&text=Contract Notes:,$3,800 ($64,600, 14 LTBE)

The bad thing is his age, how he had been relegated to backup duty and only averaging 38% of all defensive snaps, he will be turning 31 in March, plus he becomes an unrestricted free agent after this season.
As an run only defender he shouldn't get that big of a percentage with the Cowboys either.

This move reminds me of when the Patriots traded for an older past his prime Ted Washington in the early 2000's He ended up being a big part of their run defense for two years he was an important player for them. I'm hoping this is the same outcome here. A big body who plays the run very well but doesn't fit the Raiders scheme. If he can clog up that middle on running downs then he will be very important.

Is this guy any good?

Looks like we traded a 6th round pick for a 7th, which is basically a free player, Because by the 6th round that Cowboys are usually taking chances on the John Ridgeway's of the world.
