Booger wants the Cowboys to be a white collar team, which was their rap back in the 60's, finesse, soft and CLE and GB were all about smash mouth football. Landry hated that label and worked to change it.I call it corporate culture. It gets sets in and hard to break. I have been part of many organizations and it's fascinating to see the differences. As I said very difficult to change and it starts at the top. Although we changed coaches, we didn't change the way we did things. A football team, organization is no different and not immune.
You hire a CEO and give him power to do things his way. You don't hire a head coach and then not give him full control, ala not allow him to dictate offense and allow players to bypass him and go to the owner ( in thjs case it's important to note the GM is the owner with all the power).
Jerry handicaps the coaches and the team and organization. Marketing is highest priority and winning is secondary. Jerry makes excuses for everyone and players and coaches know it thus there is no sense of urgency. The passion to hate to lose is not there. Even new players get used to it after a while.
Only my opinion, but a blue collar player isn't all over social media and in the spotlight. The Cowboys have too many players playing the role of a football player for the media. Why else would you get a DE on a mediocre DL trying to give them a nickname. It's not Lawrence's fault, it's the showbiz virus that too many players catch and that causes them to buy into it's what it is, it is how it looks.
What other team in all sports history knows that most of the eyes will be on them and that has little to do with what they've accomplished, they are an attraction.
Johnson built a blue collar team, even had the triplets but they were not spotlight seekers. Parcells tried to build one but Booger was having none of that so he brought the attraction, Owens, in.
And I am not criticizing Booger for his approach, that is how he sees the game and has said that, it is all about entertainment. And he has been very successful with his Big Top.
