There are still quite a few OL candidates out

If Columbo is looking for 5-6 mil a year I let him walk and take a look at McQuistan. I honestly don't know if he can or cannot play the position, but he created enough positive buzz out of campo and through the season to lead me to believe he is a player. It is not like Pettiti either, the guy is in his 2nd year.

Columbo is nothing more than average at best. He is a little ungrateful too, since the Cowboys gave him a 2 year deal when he was basically a street FA. If he comes back in the 3-4 mil neighborhood, fine, otherwise see ya.
Remarks coming out of training camp last year suggest that McQuistan would be one of the more physically gifted RTs that the Cowboys have had since Erik Williams.

If Jerry Jones doesn't pull the trigger on Colombo or a new free agent starter at RT, perhaps this means that the hype about McQuistan reflects what is actually believed within the confines of Valley Ranch.

If Colombo leaves for greener greenbacks, I can't fault him. The NFL's current business practices discourage loyalty between players and franchises. The NFL should change these contingencies, or course, but until then, loyalty is for suckers.

He might be.

But we also thought we would be set with Jacob Rogers once.

I do not trust the OL evaluation skills of anyone in Valley Ranch these days. And that includes Coach Parcells.

Rogers never generated any buzz in camp except that he was a puss.

"Big Ugly" at least has that going for him.

Rogers would be a better comparison to Columbo than others, because our scouting & medical staff warned he had a serious issue and Parcells ignored it...Columbo has a serious medical issue, maybe Jones doesnt want to ignore it...I'm sure we want the guy back, but not at any cost

also, I think its clear the person who wanted Rogers so badly isnt here anymore...

and then there's on the field...McQ actually GOT on the field alot in preseason and TC last yr and looked good, even when facing other teams beter players...Rogers (even when on the field) never really looked good

Part of that O-line evaluation from Valley Ranch was to avoid Jacobs like the plague. Parcells bucked the trend in an attempt (once again) to show that he was smarter than anybody else.

In fact, OL evaluation skills (in hindsight) should have been given to anyone BUT Parcells. Fortunately, those guys are still on staff.

Jacob Rogers was not thought of as an outstanding physical talent. He was thought to have the tenacity and savvy of a coach's son -- a grinder type whose mental game would carry him.

I have little faith in the Valley Rancher's ability to perform psychological evaluations.

I have more faith in their ability to evaluate physical talent.

As the days go by I'm beginning to wonder if Parcells was actually smarter than anyone.

Jones has a history of overreacting to medical things. Remember Shaun Rogers?

He really should avoid X-rays. Leave that to the professionals.

Had a serious medical issue... past tense. Based on everything I've read, he's completely healed from all those injuries he had in Chicago. His problem was that he didn't have enough NFL strength to actually play and that's what the first year was all about. The second year was for evaluation.

overreating? with our history of guys who had their careers end prematurely after getting big deals ((or in LaFleur case, after using a 1st rd pick)...Haley, Johnston, Aikman, Novecek even Irvin...all guys who's careers ended prematurely

how is that overreacting?

Nobody ever thought we were set w/ Rogers, except for BP on draft day. We do need to find one vet to play either G or T as long as we don't overpay. I understand the need to have som eexperience on the line. I just don't want to have the team handcuffed to a big waste of a contract which keeps McQ, Proctor, or a draft pick from getting on the field.

This line has to get younger, or else it will turn into a cap nightmare.

You are truly reaching in regards to Colombo.

There is not a single bit of evidence that states any of his conditions are remotely degenerative like any of the players you are talking about.

Scare tactics only work when you have some evidence to back it up.

there isnt?

honestly the guy would probably be out of football altogether had we not given him a shot...and it was because of a terrible knee injury...just because he got through one yr without problem, doesnt mean he will last forever with no further issues

I really dont know if he's a huge risk or not...based on the info we KNOW about I'd say he is though, and its probably the #1 reason Jones didnt give him a huge deal to keep him

Again, you are speculating.

And if what you say is true, then Jones really should be considered foolish for trying so desperately to re-sign him prior to free agency if his injury issues are that significant. Right?

no...he should be resigned within REASON

within reason is not giving the guy 12 mils up fron and 5-6mils per yr

The Cowboys should concentrate on resigning Colombo first and foremost!

It appears thay had... AND it appears that Colombo's contract demands exceeded his value to the team.
