The dude has been in the league since 2003 and has been starting games since 2006. The idea that a grizzled veteran like him can't take a game off to keep his momentum going is frankly idiotic. Risking your franchise QB with a bad back in a meaningless game is insane. Full stop.

With a possible Bye Week on the line, I don't see how it wouldn't be "intelligent" to play him.

Sit: Romo, Murray, Free, Martin, and anyone else who needs some recovery time. We need to be at full strength in two weeks.

Yes. The risk-reward factor is not in the cowboys favor.

I particularly don't like Romo playing in a meaningless Commanders game, because this is the game he has been hurt in two years in a row. You can play to win with Weeden. If we don't win, it doesn't matter. If Romo gets injured it matters a ton.

Did you ever hear of mojo? Take a game off and you can lose it. Remember Cabo?

They have a one game at a time war mentality. Don't screw with it. Besides, anyone can come out of the game early.

If they lose against the Lions in the WC round, it won't be due to any Cabo trips. These dudes are about as focused of a team as the Cowboys have had in a long time. I think they finally got a mix of people that if nothing else, are beyond tired of being ragged on. No reason to roll into Washington and lose key players for nothing.

Garrett is trying to lose all the goodwill he gained this season...

1/250 chance that DT-GB end up tying.

Yeah, and he's not even referring to the tie scenarios. He, like so many others on this board, still seems to think that beating the Commanders improves our chances of getting a bye when the reality is our chances are virtually the same whether we win or lose.

Frankly, it's a great position to be in. Rest our starters, if we get the bye, great. If we don't, we'll still be well rested heading into the post season.

There are 2 scenarios to get a bye:

1. Det/GB end in a tie.
2. BOTH Seattle and Arizona lose. Seattle hosts the Rams and Cardinals play Niners.

The first scenario has about a .000001 chance of happening.
The second scenario is very unlikely just because Seattle is not losing to the Rams.

But here's the kicker. If scenario 2 happens, we get a bye. No matter the result of our game. We can lose and still get a bye if this scenario happens.
Scenario 1 requires us to actually win.

Play Romo and the starters a couple of series to establish something and then sit them. It realistically means nada. Of course they want to play. They are pros and only play 16 of these a year. No pro athlete worth anything will tell you he wants to sit. But this is where the head coach and the staff has to make those decisions for them.

There is one other scenario you missed. If SF beats Arizona and Seattle ties St. Louis, then the Cowboys do need to win against Washington. With that said, that just isn't going to happen. Most of the scenarios that have any chance at all, don't require Dallas to win that game. We should be sitting the starters to avoid injury.
If one of our starters gets injured, it will be ridiculous.

Bingo. There is zero reason to play the starters. Especially against a trashy Commanders team. They would love nothing more than to injure one of our starters. Especially Romo. We have nothing to prove in that game. It's all about the post season right now.

As @Toruk_Makto pointed out, Belichick is probably going to play his starters a bit. Parcells did too when we had nothing to play for in 2003 with a playoff berth locked up. It's not a crazy idea to play the starters some in Week 17.

Let me ask, is Belichick going to play his starters the following week, the week before playing their first playoff game? No? Oh, that's right, they have a bye. You do realize that if Belichick rested his starters this week, they would have TWO weeks off, don't you? How is that the same as our situation in any way, shape or form?

I wouldn't mind Romo in for a bit just to keep his arm warmed up. Depending on how the game is going, pull the starters before the half.

Why the heck are so many people on this board having such a hard time comprehending that?
