There is no intelligent reason to make Romo play Sunday

Risk and reward would be playing your guys and keeping momentum. Why even risk playing our guys in the 1st round? Why not sit them until the next round. Especially if we play the Panthers or Falcons?

Maybe not the best analogy

Seattle and Arizona both losing is a very real possibility. 49ers will likely beat Arizona and St. Louis is coming off a tough loss after a good streak of playing very well and would like nothing better than to spoil some pf their division rivals thunder by putting a L on them.

I think they have to play and to win. A bye is THAT important.

If Seattle and Arizona lose, it doesn't matter if we win or not, we get a bye.

So you choose to generalize these types of things and completely ignore the details of our specific situation? We have a QB who is dealing with a bad back, one who has clearly shown he is much more effective when he gets more rest, not less. We find ourselves in a situation where we can't improve our standing AT ALL by winning this last game. Coaches who give their players some playing time on the last week are generally those that have a bye the following week, or their team is playing like **** and need to find some positives before heading into the playoffs. Coaches are less inclined to give their players two full weeks off because that can have an impact on continuity. But one week? EVERY team plays for those byes, precisely so they can have the full week to recover before the playoffs start. How did Romo do after the team's official bye this year? He threw for 4 touchdowns. How about after the mini-bye we had after Thanksgiving? Did the team start out cold and sluggish? No, we jumped all over the Eagles (who had more "continuity" because they played the Sunday before).

Seriously, *** are some of you talking about? It's like you just started following football yesterday.

What is your problem??? Seriously???

Do you all look to argue and bicker and insult people's intelligence because you're scared of differing opinions?

Look, you said it doesn't make sense to play players for a half and then sit them.

I'm telling you it HAPPENS. So it DOES make sense, unless you're saying that all the coaches and all the teams who have done this lost their senses.

Then you offer some jibberish about why it's not good to sit players and why I'm offering generalities while you're speaking about specifics. Well, what NFL teams have you coached that makes your approach more sensible than theirs? And you're speaking in general also - hypothetical to be more accurate - because you don't know what the Cowboys plan to do.

Pulease, people act like they're experts, and they haven't ever suited up in the NFL or coached a game. Yet, they feel they can lecture anyone around here about pro football.:lmao::lmao2::lmao::laugh::lmao::lmao2:

So if both teams win they will both be 12-4 - so why wouldnt we get the bye then ? It seems like we dont need the seahawks to lose

Because we'll enter into a three way tie with another division leader & that screws us!

I don't think the Skins players would actively try to hurt our players, with us clinching already, I'm guessing they play to not get hurt going into the off season as well. However, it's their crappy painted dirt field which they won't even bother trying to fix that worries me. Almost to a point of sitting Dez too.

It's a shame there aren't basic minimum requirements (grass!) in the NFL, it's a safety hazard imo

I'm not acting like an expert, I'm acting like a person who possesses more than an ounce of common sense. But you're right, I'm getting far too worked up over this -- I have to accept that there are clueless people out there in the world. My bad.

Wasn't a analogy lol. I'm just saying why stop there? Why not sit a few guys out in that 1st round and save them for the 2nd round. That sounds as crazy to me as sitting your players in week 17.

It's not, that playoff game your saying to sit players in is a playoff game that gets you to the second round. The point is this team is trying to win a Super Bowl! They don't give rings for getting 12 wins or going undefeated on the road or playing hard every week. This team has playoff games to win! This game against Wahington means nothing p! It contributes nothing to this team's higher aspirations.

In what way? How? It doesn't help up with seeding in the slightest all it does it expose our best players to injury

Because you want to go into the post season WITH momentum and playing well. Not on a loss to the Deadskins and playing poorly.

I've never seen a team start their players in a meaningless week 17 game and it hurt their chances of winning a Super Bowl. I don't recall it hurting the Pats. You guys really underestimate the power of going into the post season on a high note. Back peddle into the post season like the Colts are and see how far you go.

We have momentum! We don't need to win a game with no playoff implications to keep that going! It's up to the leaders in that locker room to keep this team focused going into the games that matter. We're playing well one week of resting guys doesn't change that especially when you have a coach like Jason Garret & leaders like Tony, Witten & Dez Bryant. These guys don't need to another win to carry momentum. They know what they are and they know what they're capable of & they know what to expect from themselves. They don't need a win against Washington to prove anything.

You do not have momentum getting beat by the Deadskins and sitting your starters. Even if you beat them with your backups.

Why on earth would anyone want to stop what's currently happening is beyond me. Well I do get it. Its the fear of injury. Deadskins may not be a very good team but their defensive coordinator and defense has our number. Starters don't even have to play the whole game. Maybe play a quarter or two. But this team needs to show they know how to read Haslett's blitz. The Cowboys are still prepping for the post season in my eyes.

Your really underestimating the effect of rest on injured players. Romo's been a warrior all season in terms of dealing with his various ailments. Murray went out with his hand broken because he had to. This team had a division to win. Why make these players and others who are dealing with injury go out there when they could be resting and saving their efforts for a playoff game? im willing to bet that if there was a key injury in a meaningless week 17 game that pretty much screwed that team's chances of winning in the post season.

The game didn't matter. They're carrying momentum from winning three straight in Decemeber to win the division and earning your week off. I want to win in the playoffs I coukd care less about getting 12 wins for the sake of getting 12 wins. These guys blitz teams to death I don't want our guys taking any uneccesary hits when they have other more important games to win.

Guess we better find a way to beat the blitz.

Then you must think a bye week is a disadvantage to teams then? Historically that is not the case, though it's true that better teams get byes so they will win more often.

So if Jason Garrett starts Romo this weekend, I guess he'll be considered clueless too?

And all the other coaches whose teams made the playoffs by Week 17 and who played their top players, I guess they're clueless too?

Please let us know the next time you become a candidate for an NFL head coaching job since you seem to have a clue and they don't. Okay?

because Green Bay or Lions will be 12-4 as well. 3-way tie disregards head-to-head so we lose out in that scenario because our conference record is worst than everyone else.

Oh. Interesting. I dont think i remember this scenario (3 way tie for 2 Bye spots) ever happenieng before. It kind of stinks because if we tie Seatle we deserve a spot over them getting a spot due to head to head. Basically if the Packers or Detroit had a better record we would be able to gaurantee a spot with a win. So the record or fate of the Gb/Det team is going to give Seattle home field and a bye instaed of us when otherwise we would have it. Its like seattle is getting a huge gift from Gb/Det.

In light of that - i would definitely rest starters.
