There was no reason to draft Tyron’s replacement before this year

This weird narrative that’s going around media and fans is the Cowboys should’ve addressed tackle before now. First off the narrative is a lie. They have addressed tackle in the middle of the draft. Now if the argument is they should’ve addressed it in the first round? The only time it made sense was Slater over Parsons and that would’ve set this team back years.

So when was this suppose to happen? When we drafted Lamb? Diggs? When?
well, I disagree. given Tyron has had a history of injuries, missing games every year in the past few years and his back issues, a tricky injury, then you should draft and plan for the worst.

instead we hoped for the best, and planned for the best and tried to go happy path and when it doesn't go that way, you are looking like someone caught with your shorts down, bent over in a prison

Exactly. It’s not even debatable. As someone said the other day. Hope is not a strategy when putting together a roster. Only in Dallas…

Wasn’t Frederick a first rounder who you guys said we should’ve drafted in the third round?
I never said anything. The draft guys did. And they got it wrong.

You do realize if Frederick didnt get sick he probably would have been a first ballot HOFer right? So now we are comparing Smith to him? Its nonsensical.

I don’t disagree that in theory they fumbled the ball here. I just don’t agree with the narrative that’s been created. They have addressed the position.

It’s damned if you do. This team has holes. All over the place. Could they have drafted Slater over Parsons? Yes. So it would’ve been smarter for them to take Slater and draft him to play swing tackle or guard and then go into the season with LVE and Jaylon as our linebackers…..but this type of stuff isn’t being discussed.

I’m not comparing him but don’t sit here and pretend like you knew when we drafted him that he would go on to be a HOF’er. You didn’t. As a matter of fact if I’m gauging based on how this place was during both drafts? As upset people were at Smith they were probably even more upset at the Fredericks pick since we traded down to get him in the first.

I actually liked the trade. Because for once the Cowboys didnt get fleeced haha.

I didnt know he was going to be a hall of famer. But I did watch him in college and you could tell he was really good. And smart. The guy was an engineer for cripes sake. LOL.

All I am saying is people are trying to justify Smith before he has even played a meaningful snap. Lets see how he plays is all I am saying. And stop the comparisons.

Wasting your time this place has embraced doom and gloom. You can show them where they have addressed it clearly with picks that just have not panned out but they just want to complain

in my mind you don’t use a 1st or second round pick on a swing tackle and may here are suggesting that what should have been done

and that’s in lieu of the CB position that we all pretty much felt was the biggest need many are suggesting
I’ll wait for the cuts and see where we sit but until we start the season I’m not doom and glooming it

No, you didn't have to draft his replacement, but you did need to have a solid plan for a swing tackle when you know your starter is an injury risk.

They had a total of zero guys behind Tyron who have ever started an NFL game at tackle.
Fair complaint for this one camp.
They chose to move off Collins and not replace him.
They chose not to sign vet elder Swing OTs like they had two prior seasons in a row as young guns unseated them anyway.
They were gambling along the OL and it backfired.
But we are still not to week 1 yet.
Let's see what the final roster actually looks like before freaking out too hardcore.
There are a few vet swing tackle options widely and freely available and there are some guys on cut watch lists like Alex Leatherwood. --who could be brought in and then handed to Duke to develop while he acts as a swing OT.
And of course more dreamy objects that would cost real draft pick or trade compensation and salaries that are probably more far-fetched.
Lotsa options there and they max out next week at cut down day.

If I’m not mistaken they moved off of Collins because they felt Steele could replace him.

It’s how I feel. Let’s actually let them fail before we ruin our days complaining they will. I mean sheesh.

i remember...2 or 3 drafts ago...some of us wanted georgia ot/og isaiah wynn.
and we were told...HOW MANY 1ST RD OLINEMEN DO WE NEED???
NO OTHER TEAM HAS 4 FIRST ROUNDERS AND THEY MANAGE...
BLAH.
BLAH.
BLAH.
now.....its.....we should have addressed this years ago.
every draft some of us mention olinemen within the first 2 or 3 rounds.
and many draft gurus round here talk about how dumb it is.
many of the same ones talking oline...now.
this place,man.
