These next three games will define Romo career

Didn't Romo, with playoff elimination on the line, on a back that would need surgery, lead a last minute come from behind 4th qtr road victory at Washington...just last year?

Oh. That doesn't count. He needs to prove it again to maybe be considered worthy.
Pathetic.

That was against a 3 win Washington team that had given up on the season and was playing with their backup QB. The Cowboys should have never been in that position against a bad team like that with so much at stake. Until his playoff record improves and he wins a ring his career has already been defined.

So you think Washington wasn't playing their hardest vs Dallas last year.
And why is this years Commander team going to play harder vs Dallas?
I think we get their best, regardless.

Of course we got Washington's best they were playing spoiler but the fact is they were a 3 win team playing with a backup QB and a head coach who was about to be fired. With everything the Cowboys had on the line the game should have never come down to a 4th down play to win the game. I'm sure we'll get Washington's best again in week 17 everyone gives their best against the Cowboys.

It doesn't matter. I think I just read a post that said Elite QBs can win playoff games all by themselves. Romo sucks on defense. That much I know.

Yeah, I did a spit-take on that one, too. :)

He's getting beat up a bit, but I'm not sure it's fair. I read the OP as saying he's giving Romo a chance to redeem himself in his eyes. The fact that most of us believe he had nothing to redeem is pretty obvious, but, hey, if Tony plays great, the defense holds up, and it ends up with Wood giving the guy another chance personally, that's a pretty good outcome.

As I said above, I have zero concern about Romo generally during this stretch. He's one of our best players at any position on the team. I worry about the defense's ability to contain the run and make Sanchez beat us. And I worry about the secondary's ability to not let Luck beat us, period. This offense as a whole will generally do it's part. It's the strength of the team. If it doesn't, we don't deserve to win, anyway.

The problem is...the offense will have to be better than it was in the 6-1 stretch. They have averaged 34 ppg over the last three wins, but they will need to continue that against playoff caliber teams or they likely won't make it far. The defense keeping 3rd down percentage at least <60% would also help. Objectively speaking...and without my Cowboys helmet on, Dallas has the worst defense of all teams likely to make the playoffs (except maybe New Orleans/Atlanta). Moreover, it's offense is not as potent as the "current" (that could change) conference front-runner (Green Bay). The two teams that threaten them the most are Philadelphia and Green Bay. If they can't get through Philly, then it is doubtful they can get by Green Bay, especially at Lambeau. I don't know if any team will go in there and win in the playoffs. I see scenarios where they end up going to the Superdome in the wildcard round...that will be tough as well, even though they have shown they can handle NO earlier this year.

That said, when Romo is on one of his +130 rating performances, this team can produce some wicked results, but they need that offense to hum from here on out...no more crapping the bed like they did against Philly. If they can get that offense running like Green Bay then it might be that the Packers are the only team that can keep them from going the distance. The d-line is probably as good as it will get this year, so it's on the offense to put the team on its back.

I worry about the offense more than the defense...with a high-powered offense they at least have a chance...if the offense does not travel to Philly then it won't be pretty.

And I'm thinking it has more to do with our pathetic d vs the Eagles than what Romo does.

I was a White fan too, in all those NFC championship losses, White had a good defense to play with. Romo has had his flaws at times but he has been on a dis functional team the majority of his career. Yet again he's be behind the 8 ball

Wait....what?

I didn't say zero help. We've seen teams that were missing a lot of pieces but had an elite QB still win a bunch of games late in the season. Granted they eventually got eliminated because they weren't a complete team but still had some success late due to good QB play. This isn't rocket science...

Without much postseason success his careers already defined.....the games after the next 3 (if they are successful ) may be another story.

Two of the next three games will be against opponents who absolutely shell shocked Romo (Philly & Washington). Both games will be played in their backyard. At a minimum Dallas has to win 2 of 3 to even entertain a playoff spot and probably needs to run table to win division. But more importantly.....Dallas has a chance this year. With Murray set to leave and Randle taking over next year we don't know how that will play out. Dallas might not be as effective on ground and may be forced to lean more on Romo - which we have found out does not go well. I really think this year, this moment is Romo best chance at playoff success. I am not even sure his body has another year in it.

Right now I have Romo slightly under Danny White because I feel White was better near and during post-season. Seasonal stats are meaningless to me. This is time of year all of those bad perceptions about Romo were born. If he wants to put all of that mess to bed it starts with Philly. 10 days for team to physically and mentally prepare. No excuses. I also think Dallas needs to come out throwing early in that game to establish some confidence and room to work. Then run Murray. But every eagle fan in stadium will be licking their chops as they see mentally wounded duck in Romo try to come into their home and deal with pickle juice drinking players and crazed fans who want to put the nail in coffin on Romo career. This is Romo chance to quiet all non believers. Its that simple.

I'm really not sure about that.

But it's weird as Romo's career has unfolded.

The guy he replaced was Drew Bledsoe.

Another QB that also played a lot injured and constantly always lost in the end.

Romo is now just like that.

Only unlike having a Brady in the wings to replace Bledsoe..

we have Weeden.

I agree with most of your view. Mainly the part about our position this year (paraphrasing) and the two teams remaining have been Tony's road block, nemesis, pathway, etc. to redirecting the perception of him.

Oh no, Sportsbabe, you don't get off that easy. You agree with THAT?

Because if you do - you must think it was Romo's fault in losing to Denver last year because in a nutshell - his stance is in the overall scope of Tony's career has been defined by his singular play - forget everything else. Not a word about the offensive line in years past nor the current defense. Of course he's never cared for him so it's not surprising he wrote what he did.

But - that's what he is implying and as long as you chimed in - what's your solution if not Tony.
