1. Pollard. I still like him, but he absolutely is not an up the middle RB. Desperately need a pounder to side him. Going into the season w/ him as the starter and two more little dudes as backups never made sense.
2. DT-3 tech. Hankins was beastly last night, but the play of the guy beside him was just poor. I like Osa and Golston, I do, but they need to be the rotational guys. We need that guy, the one who consistently pushes the pocket and disrupts the QB. That is one of the reasons Micah was ineffective last night, not enough push up the middle. Mazi was a start, but we need to start building up the DLine w/ topnotch disruptors. Average is not getting it done.
3. WR. I like Lamb, but he's more of a 1B type WR. Need that monster there.
4. LB. Need better ones.
5. TE. I like Fergie, but we miss that getting open ability that Schultzie brought. I know, I know, y'all hate Schultzie, but we are missing the one thing that he does at a very high level: Getting open. It continually amazes me how that is so underrated by so many fans. He killed it for Houston yesterday, BTW.
6. S. We do have decent ones now, but we're still missing that CF ballhawk type FS.
Anything I missed?
1. I said when Zeke was released to not be so gung-ho on Pollard. Like Marion Barber before him, when he's not keyed on by the defense because he's not the main runner he's great, but as the lead back, teams DO key on him. He's NOT suited to be the lead back.
2. I said before the draft just getting a run stuffer DT, that just "takes up space" wasn't good enough, these days your NT-type player has to have some pass rushing ability. Mazi did not exhibit that ability in college. He played 30 games in college, had a grand total of ONE HALF OF ONE SACK. You'd think he'd have at least gotten 2-3 or so just due to missed blocks, the o-lineman slipping or a bad snap causing the qb to have to fall on the ball and with Mazi being the NT he'd be "johnny on the spot". But no.
3. Lamb is a no. 1 receiver, but like any receiver, if a defense doesn't' have to worry about anybody but Lamb, they'll just double or bracket him and he is neutralized for the most part.
4. LB is adequate. Not great, but if there's one area of the team that is adequate, it's LB. Other areas are far bigger needs.
5. TE, I agree, Ferguson may one day be great, but he's green as grass. Getting a vet TE for the next year or so is needed.
6. Losing Diggs was a severe blow to this team. Bland is playing well, but like Ferguson he's green, teams really only have to worry about him with Diggs out.
But you did miss something - the O-line. I'm sorry, Tyron isn't reliable, he plays but he plays hurt. Not as effective as he was. Tyler Smith is really good, but he needs to be at LT instead of Tyron. Remember Tyron wasn't all that great at RT, and even his first year or two at LT he wasn't dominant. Put Tyler there and let him establish himself as the next Tyron. I think he can be just as good, or at least a Pro Bowler there. Biadasz is a JAG. Martin is great but he's only one guy, can't do it all. And he's getting on in age, can't wait until he's lost his edge before you draft a replacement. Steele? Again, sorry, he's another JAG, or maybe a bit better. No Erik Williams that's for sure. Next year's draft should be OL, OL and DE for the first 3 picks...
