Things we wish were true but aren’t

I'd love to see the resume of this mythical football man.lol
It's really not a myth based on the fact he always has been into football, and played guard in college, on the Arkansas Razorbacks offensive line during the 60s when they even won a national championship.
Despite being undersized at 6' and 182 lbs. he was very effective at blocking because of his speed. You can be into football and still be a flawed GM.

.....actually believing this team and organization are relevant....

I disagree...

Both the team and the organization are relevant

Just not on the gridiron.

TV Ratings, net worth, and always in the news.

Famous for all the wrong reasons.

I do believe the Jones family prioritizes winning in their minds but they just actually don't know how. The results in the era of free agency and salary cap have been consistently inconsistent and they have been inept at becoming a dominant post season force again more often than not.
Jerry is just too loyal to "his boys".
It's not just a business to him. His pride and joy....he wants to be the daddy and shower it with his money.
Not a good business model in tha cap era.

Agree with this. Having the owner who loves his players like they’re his buddies is one of the reasons why JJ cannot be a good GM. He lacks what good GMs must have- a cold, calculating eye for moving on from players before they decline. It’s one of JJs biggest flaws as a GM- “We like our guys” is a bad formula for having the best roster you could possibly make.

Okay...so what's your take then?
Godell went against law enforcement AND his own female investigator.

You can think what you want, fine. But there just isn't any other logical explanation.
Zeke's antics were a blight on the league. Suspension handed down. There is no such thing as "going against" law enforcement and/or investigators. Whether he broke the law or was indicted/charged is irrelevant. The NFL must maintain a certain image. Zeke's actions were contrary to the image desired.

Then, when the 6 game suspension was handed down, Z and Jerry made the unwise choice of fighting it, rather than going for a lesser suspension. Suspensions that are handed down are mostly lessened when the player comes in and proclaims "I shouldn't have done that, sorry", or something to that effect. Jerry handled this very badly.

Put this in the real world and you can easily see the logic. An employer does not need the employee to "break the law" to fire them. That is what you are saying, in reality. In essence, think of it this way. Zeke was doing the equivalent of coming in late every day and missing days of work. The employer docked his pay and told him to stop.

Oh, they know how. They simply refuse to do it the way that doesn't include them as forerunners.

Well said.

What should Deshaun Watson get as a suspension?

Yes...i get a private company is not bound by law enforcement findings. Fine....im just saying....the big problem was a farce and effected zekes image. Nfl never acknowledged it.
The real issue you've so convenienlty neglected is godells own investigation. He went against his investigation team. Why?

Ohhe didnt like his party boy ways?

And apparently neither did you....siding eith GODell.

Pretty stiff punishment from The National Felon League. I would have fought it too.

I can't agree with this take simply because it doesn't hold true. Just 1 example- Tyreek Hill had a history of domestic abuse prior to joining the NFL. He was accused of breaking his son's arm. A recording was released of his fiancé talking about him punching his son in the chest and him telling her she should, "be terrified of [him] too... dumb b****." Police essentially dropped it because they couldn't prove which one of the two committed the crime, while saying a crime was indeed committed.

In Zeke's case, the police basically ruled Zeke's accuser was a liar. The NFL's investigation came to the same conclusion. I think it's obvious here that Goodell suspended him out of spite because Jerry was vocal on his defense. It's a cowardly justification to criticize Jerry for defending Zeke as innocent, especially considering the result of the investigations.

  • The Dallas Cowboys will return to their roots of great defense.
This is the saddest to me because while the Cowboys offenses during their hay day were exceptional, it was those defenses that brought home rings.

Schramm and Brandt helped build those teams because their HC was a defensive coach first and the same happened with Johnson, they only ended up with Smith because James Francis was off the board.

That appreciation for defense has never returned. They only did that last draft because they were publicly shamed with the worst defense in Cowboys history.

Exactly.

A lot more examples....but we got us some zeke haters here.

I mean despite being eligible to play the entire year he did not play a single snap BECAUSE the team, and lets be honest the NFL, valued its image.

Another thing we wish were true, but not necessarily false: Once Jerry passes, things will get better. However, I believe Stephen is worse than his father...so most likely, more of the same ole same ole.
Chuckles still has his first nickel that Booger gave him for not telling mommy about the pretty young lady.

Well said, thank you for your input.

I don't approve of the verbiage "vast NFL conspiracy " against the Cowboys.

It doesn't have to be" vast.".
I find it odd how many big plays get called back. Now...I can't say how that compares to other teams for sure....as of course I'm a fanatical viewer of us and casual viewer of the rest of the league.
I also won't claim it's proof of "vast conspiracy".
What I do think is Godell has/had a fued with Jerry. I think Zeke's 2017 suspension was completely out of line and overstepping. Police dropped their investigation, the person was proved a liar and also tried to get others to lie. His own female investigater recommended no further action.
But issued a 6 game suspension, after a solid 2016. And poised to make a solid run?
Can't tell me that wasn't a personal power move against jerry. His superstar prize player removed for nearly half a season.

Why wouldn't that attitude permeate or bubble through? Either by discreet decree or corporate atmosphere?
At the end of the day, I don't blame our woes all on that. Just something that doesn't sit right with me.
I'm not in the "tin foil hat" bunch, but as I age I do wonder about things much more than when I was younger. And it goes way beyond football.

Very well thought out post in my opinion. I agree with all you said. It's hard to always believe things are a coincidence.

But luckily with age has come a more calm demeanor. The Cowboys no longer keep me awake at night stewing over a loss. Aging sucks in many ways, but one positive for me has been perspective.
