Think a Lot of People Are Making Too Much of Sunday's Game

It's an important game. More important than most. And against an arch rival.

But... soberly speaking... it's important mainly for what the result says to the team members about their capacity to win an important game. It's a confidence booster, or it's a confidence crusher.

And on the other hand, it does not mean we're not going to play in post season. It does not mean there is no path to a Super Bowl. The ultimate prize still is attainable. The consequences of losing are almost entirely cerebral... in the players' heads. The consequences of winning are largely that, though with the caveat that a better shot at post season home field advantage is on the radar.

Here's the thing. If we lose this one, and win out the rest of the schedule, the PHI game will mostly resonate a month from now as the SF game resonates right now... you shake your head, but you also recognize the other side of the ledger gives a lot of reason for hope. And if we win this one, the gauntlet in front of us doesn't go away. We still have to go to Buffalo, still have to go to Miami, and still have to play Detroit, and having beaten PHI won't allow us to start any of those games spotted even a 1 point lead.

Everything, in other words, will still matter. Win or lose.
I'd still argue that this team is still fragile. When battling the demons of the past, I am going to say this game is important above the rest on the remaining schedule. If we lose this, I don't think we have the mental strength to continue into the playoffs. We could lose to the Bills and such and still recover. However, the eagles are different animal. We have to win this game.

Biggest game of the season by far. No reason to prepare for losing by whispering to yourself that it's OK if we lose.

This is as big of a regular season game as it gets.

Two of the top teams in the nfl fighting for 1st place and division rivals, all on a Sunday night
Recovery from a loss Sunday would be beyond difficult.

This game is mostly about playoff seeding which for Dallas is super critical considering we aren’t the same team on the road as we are at home.

That is never the answer in the NFL. It's all about pride...go check in on the Hennings and Haley thread. Or just see a recruiter.

Well whatever.. Pride will be a nice secondary bonus.

The real pride will come when they have playoff success for a change instead of the same ole.

No, that is your hang up....with team. Team boils down to full commitment.

Run along and find a team unlike here, where glory is defined by one's insult.

Facts don't lie, people do. The Cowboys are fully in, here and now!!

They aren't crying that they were denied a chance with Jerry Jones!!!!

It's not likely Leonard is going to help anyone this year. If anything, he's a next year signing. The Eagles guarantee you the Eagles had to do some roster shuffling to get him going. Everyone talking about his plug and play ability haven't read up much about his back injury and how he played when he returned from that injury.

In other words, his teammates outplayed him off their roster.
It doesn't matter if he plays or not, it's just the fact that the Eagle brain trust is instilling that mindset that they're real close and that management will do everything in their power to make that happen. Look at the 9ers, they too are making in season trades and signing FAs, whereas JJ hasn't done squat to help this club or at least send a REAL message that he believes in them by obtaining a possible missing piece to the 3 decade puzzle.

A ridiculous take on your part.

Losing wouldn't end the season, but a loss would justify all the people that keep screaming we haven't beaten anyone good. I'm tired of hearing it.

No one is making too much of Sunday's game. It's a huge regular season game. If we're a 1st or 2nd seed the Cowboys have a shot. If we're the 5th seed, we have zero chance at getting to the SB. You can convince yourself otherwise, but that's not the reality.

The thing is this game alone is only for temporary first place.

Say the Cowboys win, then both the Cowboys and Eagles win next week. Both teams are 11-3 in this case but due to conference record the Eagles are back in first.

If Dallas has any shot at the NFC East this is a must win game. But after that they still need outside help to stay on top.

Every game is important. Whether the Cowboys are 0-12 or 12-0, I always want them to win. The Cowboys are winning tomorrow.
