I remember last season when we all cracked champagne as we had gotten 3 "first round talents" coming off of a 12-4 season...

Dallas hit on 2 of the 3 and third is incomplete.

It could have been a draft of the decade if we were able to get Lynch and Ezekiel in the same draft. That's a young foundation for the next eight years. As it stands it was an okay draft. I'm not nearly as high as some on here.

Best ever is quite a reach. Given the current track record, two of these guys will likely be injuried or suspended.

Go look up the drafts in the mid-late seventies plus the Johnson years.

I agree. Those drafts built a dynasty.

No doubt

This drafts is better than the draft that brought us:

  • Troy Aikman. (Hall of Fame, 3 time SB winning QB)
  • Mark Stepnoski (5 Pro Bowl, All Decade team, 2 SBs)
  • Moose Johnston ( 2 Pro Bowls, 3 SBs)
  • Tony Tolbert (Pro Bowl, All Pro, 3 SBs)

Uh...no

Listing the number of Super Bowls doesn't make them great draft picks. Dixon Edwards has 3 Super Bowl rings but that doesn't make him a great draft pick. A lot of people would also argue that Moose and Tolbert don't make the Pro Bowl playing a team that wasn't as dominant as the early 90's Cowboys.

The original post is right, if we get two Perennial Pro Bowl players plus a good Starting QB out of this draft (plus some decent rotation players) this is one of the best drafts ever.

I believe you can describe the OP as 'desperate' or 'hoping against hope'

And you can also describe other posts in this thread as "whining".

Smith will either be healthy or not. If he is, we got two Top 5 picks in one draft.

If it makes you feel better, then remove that part. Makes zero difference to me.
It's still not comparable at this stage

I do think it means at least something for the QB though...even though I'm always on the rooftops yelling how it's a team sport.

I don't disagree and Aikman might be my all time favorite QB - and he is one of the all time great QBs to ever play the game. But I think that draft is slanted by the fact those players were surrounded by incredible talent - and by the fact Aikman was a one-in-a-decade player coming out of college that landed in Dallas.

Collins showed promise

Jones never settled in and I look forward to seeing him make plays back their instead of last year being happy he knew how to line up properly

Gregory well that is obvious.

First let me say draft show was absolutely correct in saying this draft was run by GM who had 100% job security. It means Jerry swung for the fences without hesitation that his job was on line. Now lets get into why I think this draft will rank in tops all-time for Dallas. It comes down to three players:

1. Elliot- how can you not like this pick. Character player with plus talent in all facets of position. Possibly extends Romo career if he can truly keep pocket clean and can pick up bunch of 3rd downs (usually when teams blitz & hit Romo). Below are my projections for his 1st three years:

2016: 1,200 yards 12 TDs
2017: 1,600 yards 17 TDs
2018: 1,800 yards 16 TDs

2. Jaylon Smith - I am fascinated by this pick not only because I work in healthcare field and will closely follow his rehab but I think he was top 3 player pre-injury. Previously I posted his leg press, squad #s and it looks positive. I really have little doubt the nerve wakes-up and transmits fully but this will come down to two things: 1) can he play pain free and 2) is explosiveness still there. If answer is yes & yes then start pouring concrete footings for Jerry new statue because he will be getting his 2nd GM of Year award.

As far as his rehab I would follow what Sixers are doing with Joel Embid and hire group of people who are tasked with structuring every area for him (nutrition, sleep, rehab, etc). I would even send him to Aspetar in Qatar where they have world renowned sports science facility for sports related injuries. They also have other athletes rehabbing and its great way to keep athletes upbeat.

3. Dak Prescott - an intangible monster he demonstrated leadership qualities, the ability to move around in pocket and improved his pure passing numbers in 2015. Unlike Stephan McGee (who was benched his final year) Presscott arrow is pointing up and he comes into Dallas with momentum. If Dallas gets a starter here that alone can make this draft.

This draft also has the potential of being a severe bust if Elliot is another Trent Richardson, Smith is another Marcus Lattimore and Prescott has McGee career. But I feel Dallas is playoff team (pre-draft) who attempted a Steven Curry 50 foot shot at buzzer for the win.

Jury's out until December.

Better than the 2009 draft -- the "Special Teams Draft"?

Which, itself, was a redo of the 1995 Special Teams Draft.

Our GM likes to often repeat his mistakes (i.e. horrible Galloway/R Williams trades).

"best ever" is crazy talk, but getting past that....

1) I feel pretty certain that with Romo and Dez back, and the addition of Morris, that the run game could have matched or exceed that 2016 projection.
But not after that. Those 2017 and 2018 numbers would be beautiful.

2) I love that we had a little more inside information than most teams on this. It's still a big risk. But the upside is epic. He was phenomenal before the injury.

3) Not sure what to think of Prescott other than he only cost us a very late 4th rounder (basically a 5th). So the downside is pretty limited.
I like his leadership and toughness. he just needs to speed up the process, learn to work out of a huddle or under center, and continue to develop his skills overall.
It's help greatly if Romo can play 3 years.

This goes down as the most laughable post in history. LOL
