No it's not. Far from it. They took a guy in the 2nd round who won't play this year. This team struggles with picking players in this round. Jerry said he missed out on Lynch. That's who he obviously wanted. I don't know if Lynch is the answer but if he wanted him, He should of got him. He's given up a bunch before to get a player, So it shouldn't of stopped him this time. And does Prescott really excite anybody? I'm not saying he's a bad player but I just don't see a franchise QB. Then they take another running back in the 6th. I don't get it and then you follow that up with a basketball player. And I understand that he might end up being a good player but I thought this draft was about helping Romo win now. I like Zeke, Tapper, and Brown but this draft should of been better.

You really should quit saying that because it is not know for sure whether he will be able to come back this year. He seems to already be ahead
of the schedule the surgeon set for his recovery. I suspect he will begin the season on 8week pup but, he might be able to play the last 4-6 games and the
playoffs so let's not be so negative.

Kids these days.....

Oh what am I saying? I love the enthusiasm, but never forget the class of 1975. Glad to see a draft give the younger Cowboys fans enthusiasm.

sure. What I expect is Jaylon Smith to continue core exercises until they wait for nerve to fully engage again (some refer to this as nerve waking up). He is back to his pre-injury weight. He does not have full lateral movement of left foot (flexing of the left foot outward toward your head). From the videos I have seen Jaylon does not appear to be dragging the foot at all.

If we look at video from his injury: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=14480100. We see the stretching of the nerve (which caused it to sleep) was caused from hyperextension of knee from the shove in back from #68. Fortunately the nerve was only stretched and not elongated. Its important to note the nerve is structurally intact and is not damaged but merely not transmitting due to an excessive stretch. The waking up of nerve could happen at anytime. He could wake up tomorrow and be fully functional or it can continue its current pace of 1" month (area asleep is 6" in length).

As for what I expect for his recovery is difficult to say because there really isn't another exact case. Lattimore injury was different and resulted from direct trauma from impact of helmet. If Jaylon progress continues at its current pace he will be 100% cleared by next off-season. Now lets not kid ourselves this was very serious injury. But what he has going for him is he is young and appears to be athletic freak so I would not be surprised if his body responds and he gets back to 80-90% of what he was pre-injury. The keys areas I listed previously is does he have pain running and cutting. If he does it will be shortened career. The other area is his burst. Its really what makes him special. During Marinelli interview he talked about how he went to ND last year as favor for OL coach who he worked with in Chicago. He was watching a play when blur went by him and he really hadn't seen such explosiveness from player before like that. It was Jaylon Smith. Even if some of that burst is gone I still think he can starter because he had such an excessive amount. In summary, I think we are looking at definite starter who has potential to be pro-bowl even HOF if he is pain free and pre-injury explosiveness remains.

Thank you, I appreciate it.

There is no way of knowing if the nerve will fully recover. I had a nerve in my leg that was numb from an injury and it still gives me problems years after I had surgery. He could easily have burning , tingling , of numbness for the rest of his life. I hope not, but I know that I have two nerves ( one in leg/foot and the other in my arm) that have gave me problems for many years. It is a wait and see situation now.

We all are cheering for the kid.

I think many are optimistic because we have no choice since he's a Cowboy now. We cheer for our players especially a nice kid like him.

There are many team it appears that Jaylon isn't even on their boards. Broadus said today on the show NE didn't have him on the board (who knows for certain)

I don't think he is negative, but is realistic. Nobody expected Smith to play any this year and there was doubts if he ever plays again. Only since Dsllas drafted him has fans expected him to play any in this upcoming season. It was well known that he would miss this season and if he plays sooner , consider it as a bonus. His recovery seems to be going well, but nerve damage in any form is unpredictable .

Why would anyone- particularly a wealthy American pro athlete- go to Qatar for rehab?

P.S. I think Elliott and Prescott go down as magnificient selections from this draft. Everyone else we drafted is forgotten.

I was guilty of this before also thinking America does everything better than rest of world. Here is an update: they don't. Also Qatar wouldn't replace his rehab assignment in US but supplement it. The facility in Qatar (Aspetar) is where alot of european soccer players go to rehab injuries and they take their sport even more serious than we do about Football if you can imagine that. Here is more info on Aspetar if you are interested: http://www.aspetar.com/news-item.aspx?id=253.

I'm not saying nowhere does things better than America. I'm saying no one would travel there for an extended rehab as opposed to remaining in the states. I wouldn't. Especially if I was drafted by the NFL/paid. Whatever they offer there could likely be facilitated here without the relocation. We have the best athletes, universities, sports medicine, etc. in the world.

Am I geeked about this draft? Sure I am - and moreso than in previous years. It is very rare when the Cowboys get a top 5 pick. I think the Cowboys took the best possible advantage of that. I did not want them selling the farm like Philly and LA did to grab a QB not rated higher than Winston and Mariota. The fate of this draft hinges on the 2nd round pick.

However, I was just as geeked about the 2002 draft as much as this draft. I thought the Cowboys grabbed 4 studs in Roy Williams, Andre Gurode, Antonio Bryant and Derek Ross. The first two selections paid off with FIVE Pro Bowls apiece. Unfortunately, Bryant and Walter had ten cent heads. Jamar Martin, Pete Hunter, and Tyson Walter were JAGs.

I would love it if 8 of those draftees make the roster and Jaylen Smith goes to the IR.

your right. I remember that 2002 draft. Roy Williams was elite coming out of college and biggest issue with him was his comments before the draft that he didn't expect to play professionally for long. Nobody thought that conversation would move to his style being ineffective & phased out. Gurode was top rated guard and was considered steal. Antonio Bryant was tantalizing but after throwing his jersey at Parcells in camp we knew darker days were ahead. I always liked Ross with his darth vader shaded shield.

I will continue to believe in 2016 draft until proven otherwise.

if millions of dollars are on the line....you should be doing everything possible to make it a success. Qatar would be great move for short periods (2-3 weeks) in combination with his program in Dallas. Alot of athletes report being refreshed by change of scenery in their rehab and innovative approach by trainers over there. I have had yet to read one case where someone went Qatar and it wasn't beneficial.

I'm not trying to be negative and he seems like a great guy but I was just disappointed. I just thought there were other players they could of picked that would have an immediate impact. I hope he does prove me wrong. I love this team and I just want them to win like everyone else on here

It's either the best draft or the worst, depending upon who you talk to!
