This is a different team

Indeed, but this was just 1 game. I think the Iggles were caught off guard by everything you mentioned, and our HC was prepared as we have not seen for years with this team. Definitely encouraging on our end, and definitely discouraging for the Iggles. The drops for Lamb dont bother me too much, and I expect him to off vs the NYG
Yep, and that’s different.

Get real.
The refs kept Dallas in the game from the opening kickoff; first by getting rid of Philadelphia's best defensive lineman, then with timely penalties that helped the Cowboys score.
Anyone who wants to believe different can, but it was clear that Philadelphia was coasting on offense, and Dallas put up points with the help of the refs.
But in the second half, the Eagles shut down the Cowboys and coasted to a win that kept the game within the betting lines and kept fans watching until the end.
I agree that Dak looked better early, but as the game wore on, the Eagles kept him in check.
I still think this Cowboys team gets four wins, tops.
Do you really think it was a coincidence that Jalen Carter went out with the Cowboys missing Micah?
I don't. And with the penalties that the Cowboys were getting, it kept the game close.
Without those penalties the Cowboys score 10 points, max.
Bottom line: it was a typical game for a national audience that kept fans watching and advertisers and gambling sites happy.
Every one of those penalties were legit penalties. Sorry you’re upset the Cowboys looked better than you predicted.

Looks like the same team to me.

I'm not raving about the play calling- It was ok, basic and boring, where the Cowboys continued to fail at executing screens and plays in space. The run power game was better but still lacked consistency.

Same poor tackling on defense especially from the defensive backs. Not wrapping up Barkley, just throwing a shoulder at him is the dumbest crap i've ever seen from a veteran. Pathetic.

The other thing that is same when facing good teams is they fail to have success on both sides of the ball at the same time. Offense scores, defense can't stop anything. Offense struggles, defense gets stops.

I tried telling folks who said this team sucks and is going 6-11. Team can’t run the ball, defense can’t stop the run and Dak sucks.

The loss sucks. They had em. Fortunately, this is the first game of the season and these bright spots have me feeling good going forward:

* Dak looks very mobile, strong and aware.
* The run game looked so much improved from recent years.
* The offensive line dominated IMHO. A few mental mistakes, but they didn’t get out physicaled.
* The defense actually made in game adjustments and clamped down on the run. Barkley only had 60 yards. Hurts was awesome on the ground though.
* The team overall looked prepared. First game of the season you know they’re going to be fired up and they were. But they played within themselves, not like that yahoo Carter, and kept the pressure on throughout the game.
* I saw toughness from the team. Dak making that TD saving tackle after the fumble is going to pay dividends within themselves locker room.
* Only 4 penalties.

Probably won’t shut up all the habitual critics but maybe some.

:starspin:
The defense should never ever play man against Jalan. I don't know what they were thinking. Zone him and have a spy at all times. Especially, near the goal line.

It was good to see.

It was good to see.
I was surprised that they did play beyond my expectations for the first game against the Champs. Just a few plays here and there and the Cowboy could have won that game.

Like 1 play or 2. Maybe just 1 holding call.

In all seriousness. Most of the off season I thought ok. They can contend for a playoff spot.

Then I started waffling a bit and thinking not.

But it’s certainly possible if things keep moving the right direction. That they can compete for a playoff spot I think

I am willing to cut them some slack because this was Schottenheimer's first game as a HC. And the OC/DC were also in their first game at their current positions.

I honestly expected them to get destroyed by the eagles. They ultimately lost because they are clearly not at the Eagles level yet but at least this shows they have enough to contend. We still need more talent on D to really make a push. We need to use the extra picks to get an LB and improve our DL. I was also worried about the RB position but Williams did ok.

They surprised me - I will say that. Hurts ran well because they rushed 4 and did not use a spy - stupid plan. Second half when they blitzed and had 5 coming at him, they shut him down! Dak played a very good game. I am not a Dak believer but I always give him credit when he does play well!

Aaah, it wasn’t that the Cowboys looked better than expected but that the Eagles suck. Got it.
If you weren't a blind homer wearing blue tinted glasses you could watch these games impartially and see what is actually happening.

Don't take my word for it though, we shall see in the next 4-6 weeks on how the cowboys offense looks and how the eagles defense is stacking up.

Exactly.

MountainEeyore and his minions aren't going to give this team credit no matter what.

I'd call a spade a spade if we sucked.

But we didn't..we have something to work on.

This season is predetermined by the roster. Finding legit dawgs at LB and getting young DTs should be the focus in the next draft and free agency.

Trust me, I wouldn't take your word for anything Cowboys related.
