Jones only carried the ball 3 times on third down last season.

I'm not sure how many "3rd and 53" he had, but he had a heck of a lot 3rd and 4th and 1 where he had to dive into the teeth of the short yardage defense to pick up the first down when everyone knew he was getting the ball.
soccerbud;1418087 said:extrapolate that into full time, 250-300 carry back, and that 4.88 YPC will no doubt drop to a lower number

But Barber is a slow ploder and is good as a 1-2 punch I just do not see him as a feature rb

InmanRoshi;1418806 said:While MB3 is the best receiving RB on the team, he's more proficient than dynamic, and he has to play nickel because Julius is so flawed in that area. What Dallas could truly use is a Brian Westbrook type of game breaking receiver out of the backfield, who could motion and line up at WR and could create mismatches with linebackers. It would really cause problems for opposing defenses to account for two 1,000 WR's, a better than average 3rd WR, a 800 yard TE and a gamebreaking pass threat out of the backfield in coverage. I wouldn't be surprised if Dallas looked at Lorenzo Booker in the late 2nd or 3rd round, and they've reportedly talked to him. He would be the nickel back/situational back, with MB3 taking over in base.

Barber seems tough, but I dont know if he can handle the abuse on a full time scale. I like the tandem we have and if. But I am not opposed to giving Barber a try, but when you fail and go back to being a 3rd down back, your never the same. Hammy was a decent thrid down back, could not cut it as a starter and then disappeared. I would hate to see Barber disappear.
I dont know, but I do know just cause Barber is an excellent 3rd down back does not mean squat if you move him to starter. Its a new ball game with new rules and very possibly a different outcome.
I trust Wade and Garrett to make that call. I am figuring out how to get the boys to move up to take Nelson. I'll let you know what I come up with and we will see if I am sucessful in late April.

2. MB3's production may or man not go down with an increased workload, but I agree he's earned the chance to show us what he can do as a starter. Period.

I do agree that Barber has earned the right to compete for the job.

fiveandcounting;1418978 said:yes so was Hambrick and even Michael Wiley (was that his name?) at the same time. And look at Lamont Jordan Jet numbers as a backup vs starter numbers with Oakland. Theres a lot of factors like him coming in against 2nd unit defenses towards the end of the half and things like that. I think he is much better than Hambrick or Wiley or even Jordan and he would be a good starter but you have to consider his numbers wont be the same

1998 Jamal Anderson 410 rushes
1984 James Wilder 407 rushes

All those guys averaged over 25 rushing attempts per game for a season. It is obviously pretty rare. The most Emmitt averaged was 23.6 per game in a season. Getting 20 to 21 per game is probably close to the average to expect from most backs.
