Yes, Ryan Williams and his 58 career carries, 164 yards, 0 TDs, and 2.8 YPC is going to instantly turn into a superstar.

He has the ability. He showed it in preseason. There's a reason he was a second round pick. It's just been injury after injury. He or Randle could put up good numbers with the zone blocking scheme and this oline. Think Shanahan 's scheme with the Broncos. He would just plug in a running back and he would produce.

1000 yards isn't all that great, if the back stays healthy all year. Murray is on pace for 1800+. It's not like I'm saying Williams or Randle would come close to that. 1000 is feasible.

There is very little not to like about Demarco Murray. He has a nice change of direction, a very good stiff arm, good top-end speed, great vision and anticipates where the crease will be. And despite all the talk about all his 'yards before contact'... he can truck a tackler with the very best of them. I see he deliver many more shots than he takes.

With that said I still pay Dez more AND before I pay Demarco. Featured RBs don't tend have the career longevity that they used to have even twenty years ago. The Cowboys can put this decision off until after this season when they will hopefully have a continuous sixteen-game sample size from which to base that decision. There is no rush to get him signed now.

Unfortunately I know nothing about the nfl pay scale, I just don't care; what I do care about is them giving him a fair contract and trying to retain him. If it works great , if not due to overpricing it would suck big time. BUT those saying we can just replace him please slow the hell down... We finally start hitting on a positive recipe, someone to keep Romo from a Romo moment, a back to carry the load and make defenses respect them, and we can just replace them with anyone!?

something that is a red flag about Murray to me is ..i don't fully understand the unusually ticks some super talents have. He wears glasses at social events to make himself invisable to others. reminds me of Ricky Williams. Can one of the Docs here explain?. Just seems odd...and i'm not judging him at all. I just need to understand why the best (right now) running back in the NFL feels the need to not be seen? (While not on the playing field)

Seems like the folks willing to let Murray walk are maybe ignoring that Romo will be walking soon as well. So now the offense has extremely green players at the two positions that touch the ball the most. Never mind that the big contract you're about to sign Dez to will be wasted until we find legitimate solutions at those two positions. Next, you're calling for the coach's head and calling sports radio to complain about how the team is inconsistent and has no leadership.

If Romo was entering the prime of his career I could maybe make myself understand starting over at RB. At least you could lean on your franchise QB while you take a RB-by-Committee approach to reach a certain level of production. But starting over at RB and QB at the same time is something 3-13 teams do. That's Oakland/Jacksonville territory.

The next QBs contract will be very cap friendly for the first 4-5 years of his rookie deal. The timing works out great for keeping Murray and developing a new franchise QB. And it's likely his presence would help tremendously in bringing along a rookie QB.

Also, having a top RB in the league puts butts in the seats and sells merchandise. While we might not care about it, owners of sports teams do.

Let's next applaud all thoughts at unraveling what is just now coming to the front as elements of a very strong nature on the team...after all, it obviously is just a matter of replacing production with youth and a low price tag.

I don't think anybody is saying Murray is a average RB. What I'm saying is that Most RB's that get a second contract with the team that drafted them. production goes down and injuries happen. The money spent on a top RB is better spent somewhere else.. Like the Oline or Dline.

How many of those RB's have three 23 year old cornerstones on the offensive line blocking for them? Don't be cheap, if Murray performs then you pay him.

Not when we're already $10 mil in the hole and still need to sign Dez. If Murray wants too much, then next man up.

offer him a deal like this 4 years/$20m, SB=$6m, 1st year=$1m; 2nd=$3m; 3rd=$4m, 4th=$6m; guarantee = $14m....he never sees that 4th season (either cut or restructure if he is still going strong)

Running backs are cheap, this is peanuts, even if we gave him more upfront as a signing bonus.
