So you're ok with no emotion being allowed after a big play that may not end up in a TD or a WR who catches a ball over the middle and takes a huge hit but hangs on, a big first down conversion, etc..?

Yet, you said what Irvin did was just play to the crowd.. its the same thing. You're either ok with it or you aren't.

You're taking it to far. Emotion is fine. They just want to get rid of the signature moves and taunts. Jumping up and down and playing to the crowd is raw emotion, and that's fine. But digging a grave or doing the water sprinkler isn't.

To my earlier point about the Cowboys being part of the reason this is an issue...I go back the the Commanders "Fun Bunch" High five.

The Cowboys had issue with it. It wasn't taunting, it was celebrating.
Yes, it was that long ago that this started.

I think Irvin did a bit more than jumping up and down.. he certainly had a signature move that involved pointing and pointing the ball, amongst other things, but we'll drop it at this point because i think you're just going to keep trying to make excuses for why what Irvin did was different.

Easy bud. Lol

I have no idea right now how they're going to call this. Maybe Irvin's antics will be legal, maybe not. We'll see.

I like that they're trying to class up the league a bit.

I don't think the article told the whole story. I was watching NFL Live (yeah I know), and they stressed the point that the celebrations would only be penalized if they done directly in the opponent's face, which will make it part of the taunting rule. So things like Cruz's salsa, Ware's hulk smash, Morris's home run swing, etc., should still be legal.

No more salsa dancing for Cruz? I'd be on board with that.

I'm only fine with it when it's due to coverage and/or pass rush. If you don't wanna see him dance play better D. Don't go cry to the zebras.

It is really stupid that they are going so far in this celebration thing...i agree that they shouldn't last more than a few seconds and no props need to be used...but this is a game of emotion and I loved watching the celebrations because it would get me even more hyped. NFL is being stupid right now

Easy? Im just discussing this issue.. im not sure how you'd take offense to that.

You already said you didn't mind Irvin..he was just playing to the crowd and you didn't see anything wrong with that.

Now, they're saying things that he did won't be acceptable anymore, and you don't see anything wrong with that either, apparently.

Im just pointing this out.. you seem to have a double standard. I just don't buy the "classing the league up" nonsense.

Taking away most forms of emotion or celebration removes players passion and intensity.. just like with the recent hitting rules, you have to basically "ease up" and really think about how you are going to hit somebody now, instead of just playing. Same with celebrations now, and its just stupid.

Football is a game of passion, emotion, and intensity.. telling someone they have to hold back in anyway or think about how they are going to react in a situation is taking away the very thing that makes the game great. Not making a DB go, "Ok he caught the ball.. now i have to wait until both his feet touch the ground and he's looking me in the face and we both give a head nod until i may hit him.. and make sure i only hit him in the tummy or the chest.. but not too high on the chest or that'll be trouble."

Now, "Wow, that was a great play, yesssssssssssss.. oh shoot, i dropped the ball, i hope they don't think i intentionally threw it to the ground. What?! 15 yards?!"

They can outlaw every single small instance of celebrations, .. and we all will survive.

Not one fan will quit watching, .. not one NFL player will change professions.

Football will still be great.

Humility will be reborn. (probably not, but it's a nice thought)

"Self Celebrations" are not necessary for football to still be great, and enjoyable.

I enjoy seeing teammates run to each other and celebrate when one of the other guys do something crucial, or game-changing for the team.

But don't jump up and celebrate yourself, or something you did.

Every great play will still get celebrated, but who initiates the celebration is the key.

Mike and Mike said that the celebrations ARE ALLOWED as long as they're not directly towards an opponent. The NFL emailed them to clarify. No dramatic rule change as the article wants you to believe.

I have always hated all the look-at-me-crap. It's a team game; make a play and celebrate on the sideline with your teammates.

How does emotion and intensity translate to picking up the pylon and taking a golf swing? Punch the air, raise your hands to the crowd, celebrate the play. Just don't act like you're on a pogo stick or you're digging a grave.

Nobody wants the emotion to lessen. Just don't grandstand.

Confusing rule change. My understanding was you couldn't do anything in an opponent's face already and they had already banned spiking the ball unless it was a touchdown.

Good move by the NFL. The more of these "look at me!!" episodes that can be eliminated the better.

Irvin didn't grandstand? Again, we should just drop it at this point. You talk about needing to class up the game, yet you were perfectly fine with everything Irvin did. It doesn't add up to me.

Clearly, the league is cracking down based on more than just coreographed celebrations based on what was said in the article. No need to rehash the examples i gave again.

Its too much, imo.

So the article was just bogus.. lol. Moving on then..hope the NFL gets this clear with the referees before the season starts so everyone is on the same page.
