Meh. I'm OK with this. But I'm one of those "old timers" doddering and drooling along amongst you young whippersnappers.

But I will share some old-time memories with you. Want to see Bob Lilly's dance after a sack?

There. See it?

And when Drew Pearson caught the "Hail Mary" pass from Roger Staubach, he saw no reason to stage a small Broadway musical production in the end zone. He lifted the ball over his head. What more is needed?

I'm sure I'm in the vast minority here, but I love this rule.

There was a time not long ago when a player was excited about scoring in the same way we are. They'd run to their teammates and high-five and hug with everyone.

And I'm not talking about a hundred years ago. I'm talking about Tony Dorsett, Walter Payton, Jerry Rice, Lynn Swann, and even as recent as Barry Sanders. It was about team, and class.

Today's celebrations are for that lowest-common-denominator segment of our population. Sorry, but it's true.

Pretty soon NFL players will be replaced with actual robots dressed up like players. Each player will be pre-programmed prior to a game sort of like in Madden.

Man, the NFL and the networks loved the military salute when TD was doing it during the Broncos' Super Bowl runs. Now, it's beyond the pale. Sadly, there are probably committees worth of NFL yahoos making six figures each, whose sole job is to come up with this asinine, rule-bound minutiae.

It was Mike Andersen that started it (former marine), not TD.

"These acts include but are not limited to" So will Dez be able to throw up the x after a TD? Sounds like they can flag anything they want....

The players in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and most of the 90s had no problem with it. And the game was far better. No high school "read option" offenses and unfair rules for the offense.

Yeah, but that was when football was real football!

I don't know why they make rules like this? I mean, what the hell does it really hurt? That a ref might have to walk 4 more feet to get a spinning ball?

Maybe they put it in place for the peewee, Jr.. High, and High School and College players because it promotes a bad image?

I mean, football is a freaking game! It's supposed to be fun, that's what a game is, for fun. It's not like the rest of the World is going to think any less of the USA or the NFL.

I don't mind the "read option" if they want to try that, it just means that if a player like RG3 an his coach want to risk that...go for it. It will only benefit the Cowboys when he gets knocked out again this year.

It just seems that year after year after year NFL football is rapidly becoming boring for some fans. IMO, I don't mind a little trash talking, celebrating an accomplishment if it is warranted, but not allowing a kid to have some damn fun while risking his life and limb for the betterment of the NFL is stupid!

I agree.

I have no problem with spontaneous celebrations or raw emotions but it has got to a point now where its completely ridiculous.

If I wanted to watch people prancing around doing stupid little dances I would watch Americas got Talent or one of the other 500 talent shows on tv. This is the NFL which used to be the toughest, most hard nosed sport on the planet.

I'm just glad they are cracking down on it now before teams start having to hire choreographers along with the position coaches.

Those celebration hype crowds up and without the fans the league folds. Ridiculous.

It's not ridiculous, it's stupid....! Soon children will be taught in sports to not have any fun.

Actually I think it is time to crack down on all the stupidity and exhibitionism that is rampant. After just about every play.

I agree to some extent. The fact that these things are going to be against the rules is fine. What bothers me is that it's in no way going to be enforced fairly, whether intentional or not.

I'm fine with it all. Call me old, but it's totally out of hand. Every play has some sort of "look at me" type act. Celebrate on the sidelines after the series is over.

I agree. It's way out of hand.

If you need to do that sort of thing to have fun playing the game, you probably shouldn't be playing.

Im ok with banning celebrations after a sack, that can be annoying. But after a touchdown?! makes no sense.

And I understand your point also. After all, they are playing professional football...so act like it. Do your grandstanding after the game, if you win.

my son's team in H4 (8 year olds) were basically told not to celebrate in non club games but that was only because they were so much better than non club teams that the closest game they had was 9-0.

That's called Sportsmanship. Or, you can call it respect for your opponent.
