I can't think of a single rational reason the Packers should have a celebration that isn't allowed for the other 31 teams. One team can celebrate and the others get penalized for doing the exact same thing? Give me a break.

They are going to kill the league. Lord forbid the NFL becomes like the NBA, which is now a watered and mostly non competitive league.

Please. Not one single fan watches the games because of the celebrations.

I'll bet you that NFL madden game will never cut the celebrations out of their madden game. Why? Because people like them. How about asking the fans before making stupid changes. Goodell is dictator loser. We should vote on commissioner every 4 years.

And when Drew Pearson caught the "Hail Mary" pass from Roger Staubach, he saw no reason to stage a small Broadway musical production in the end zone. He lifted the ball over his head. What more is needed?

That would be against the rules now. No pointing your hand or pointing the ball.. not towards your opponent or towards the sky.

The players in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and most of the 90s had no problem with it. And the game was far better. No high school "read option" offenses and unfair rules for the offense.

The game was better because defensive backs were allowed to hit people, and offensive lines weren't allowed to hold every play.. has nothing to do with celebrations.

I never heard anyone complaining about all Michael Irvin's showboating.. just saying.

I never saw Irvin do anything choreographed. He just played to the crowd. That will still be ok for the most part I think.

They will if the NFL tells them to. It's just a toy.

Its got nothing to do with being choreographed or not.. did you read the original article at all? The list of things not to be tolerated includes spiking the football for goodness sakes.

"spiking the ball; throwing or shoving the ball; pointing; pointing the ball; verbal taunting; military salute;"

Apparently you can't point the ball or salute either.. oh, and no talking either. This is now a quiet game.

I'll bet that doesn't apply to touchdowns as much as just the random first down or catch over the middle.

The penalty I want to see is "Unnecessary Celebration" This is when your 3rd string LB makes a routine tackle on kickoff team and jumps up and down like it was a game saver. Tack on a 5 yard- Unnecessary celebration". When Marion Barber burst through the line for 4 yards and got up and ran 10 more yards to celebrate stumbling through a hole for 4 yards. 5 yards! When a DB deflects a pass(not intercepts, but simply deflects) and hops up and down making the incomplete pass sign... 5 yards. When a DT simply makes a tackle for a loss and does the Igor Olshanzky bear kick- 5 yards!

No, they won't. The NFL doesn't have creative control over everything in the game. Don't be silly.

Sure they do. They own the license and have a HUGE say I what image of the league is projected.

I'm not following.. Irvin did alot of celebrating that didn't involve a TD. Do you forget his first down celebrations?

I agree they own the license, but if you think they are super involved in the creative direction to the point where they are worried about what celebrations the game is including, you're being silly. After all.. its just a toy, right?

Yes, I'm saying that stuff won't be allowed, but if you score, I'm sure you can still spike the ball or make a quick gesture.

Hopefully, we'll get some clarification this weekend when all the preseason games begin.

So you're ok with no emotion being allowed after a big play that may not end up in a TD or a WR who catches a ball over the middle and takes a huge hit but hangs on, a big first down conversion, etc..?

Yet, you said what Irvin did was just play to the crowd.. its the same thing. You're either ok with it or you aren't.

Exactly, not only does it take longer than most b/c your running an additional 10 yards or so just to jump into the crowd, but your physically leaving the field of play. How that is legal, but a simple spike isnt, makes no sense.

Is it safe to say the cell phone under the goal post will too be outlawed? Dang shame
