Also, the article doesn't say ESPN "informed" the league about anything. It said the ESPN reported contacted the NFL. The NFL, though, already knew about it. I'm guessing Jerry already knew about it, too.
Jones' release might or might not have had anything to do with that shooting, or the ESPN report about it. But ESPN obviously wants to take credit for it, regardless, and they know nobody will be able to refute that being the reason. No matter what Jerry says the real reason was, the public perception will be that it was because of the shooting and/or ESPN, whether it is true or not.
