Feel you Rusty. Like yourself I’ve never seen anything resembling real success in my lifetime.

As stupid as it sounds, after the J Love sack on the 1st drive got turned into a first down via the illegal contact penalty, I actually told my friend I was watching the game with that Dallas was going to get blown out. When you’ve watched this team for years, you just know when they’re going to fold.

After this one I actually was hardly disappointed at all, which made me a little sad. The passion for the team I once had is definitely fading. I’ll always be a “fan” (I mean, anyone on this site obviously cares more than most), but it certainly means less for me than it did for most of my life.

I know it probably sounds ridiculous for me to say this. However, I must admit that this loss was painful for me tonight. maybe I'm foolish. Maybe it's because I'm young. I don't know. However, it felt absolutely torturous to watch today's defeat.

I suppose it's because this regular season was the best one that I have seen since becoming a fan around 2000. I mean, sure, we've had 13 win seasons before, but, before this game today, I felt this team really had a chance to do something special. Now, I dont know. We probably won't win the division next year because that's how the division works. We probably will have a new coach, but what's to say it's going to be a good coach if it's not McCarthy? Its going to have to be someone that works well with Jerry. But then, what happens to the team? Does it become irrelevant like when I started as a fan? Does it become successful? It just feels, well, painful feeling like this might have been the closest I'm going to have seen this team having a chance at success for some time.

I'm always going to stay a fan of this team. Most losses don't affect me the way they used to, but this one feels different just because of what I've described. Or at least, that's what's been rolling in my head since the game ended. Then again, should I care that much? The players don't seem to care that much. Their loss is mended by the money they made. Jerry won't care because he's got billions.

I'm sorry if this thread seems to be rambling. I'm just trying to vent a bit after how painful this loss was for me.
Lol. You really don't pay attention to the games at all. Jerry loves fans like you.

Yes, I too feel for the younger fans. I've been following since 1970. My three sons (the oldest of which is named "Troy") are all between 27-30...and there's nothing we enjoy more than getting together to watch our Cowboys. However, none of them were old enough to remember or experience the last wave of "glory days." Maybe they will, someday...and I hope to still be here to share it with them!

I knew we were totally done midway through the second quarter.

Hang in there bud. The team needs good fans like you. We’ll find reason to cheer because that’s what fans do.

Dont let the Cowboys get you down emotionally, they are not worth it.

Go spend some time with your kids or if you dont have any kids, spend time with some friends or family.

At the end of the day this is just a game, dont stress yourself out over it.

Now if Jerry didn't get rid of Jimmy team would have 6 or 7 total sb wins. That to me was the worst thing to have happen to this team.

It really wasn't that impressive of a regular season some of us were trying to say that and got called every name in the book here.
They piled on against bad teams and mostly lost against good teams. And had complete collapses just like they did last night.

Yea. I think from now on even the happy fans need to bite their tongue for a while.

Most likely because you're young this one hurts more than others.

I'm pushing 60. Been watching the cowboys since Landry was the coach.

I've come to the conclusion that the NFL is about one thing, and that's money. For the last 45 years, the NFL and or any other sports team haven't put a penny in my pocket, but they have taken money out of my pocket over time, and the NFL is a multi billions of dollars business.

Honestly, and I hate to say "I told you so" because you think sooner or later this drought will end for the cowboys, but I did expect them to screw it up like the always have done in the past. Am I bummed? Yes. That said, keeping professional sports in perspective in my life has made me a "more even keel fan" IMO. Less "highs and lows" if you will.

I remember reading here that during the cowboys run at the end of this season how great Dak is, and the team is lighting it up. I kept my mouth shut because as great as Dak can be, he can really have brain farts during the playoff games. Add Big Mike into the mix and game management, it was kind of a no brainer that they could screw the game up last night. What I didn't see coming however was the Dallas defence actually looked WORSE than the eagles defense, which I didn't think was possible, particularly at home.

Given we're dealing with Jerry Jones (who I honestly believe is a smart businessman, but a horrible GM) it will be interesting to see how it plays out with both Dak, some other key players and in particular the coaching staff this year. That said, we all know Jerry "likes his guys", and I have no clue how his brain works when it comes to his most valued Cowboys team.

Having lived in the North East, I am amazed at the lack of anger from the fans in the stands. People here were shouting "burn everything down" on this forum at the end of the game, and if this happened in at least Philly or New York, I have little doubt that the fans in the stadium might have actually burn the place down after that "performance" last night LOL Dallas fans at the stadium seem to lack any anger to be displayed at the team on national TV for whatever reason. Very laid back crowd. Heck, the philly fans even will boo in the second quarter if they're stinking up the place. Not saying to be like philly, some some anger shown by the crowd on national TV may not be a bad thing.

Honestly, if the NFL were to drop off the face of the earth and I couldn't watch a pro football game, it would actually be a good thing as I could be more productive on my Sundays other than watch the boob tube for mindless entertainment.

This loss, while upsetting, makes me wonder why anyone would continue to believe for any other outcome.
Because that’s what fans do. Or at least that’s what this fan does

I can’t and won’t go through a football season as miserable as some of the fans in here

If it makes you upset ( not you specifically ) then why follow ?

I have since 2011 adjusted my expectations but I will continue to grasp on to glimmers of hope when I see them.

I do wish Jerry would sell or step down as GM because as long as he’s running things it’s like swimming against a current

It’s quite alright. For me, the moment was the entire fourth quarter of our 1998 home playoff loss to the Cardinals. Dallas laid down to an inferior club at Texas Stadium. ‘Twas just another reminder the 90s magic was long gone, never to return.

And here we are, some 25 years later. My kiddo was six then. She’s in her early 30s with two boys.

I hate that you’re going through this. The hope would be this gets better. I wish that for all Cowboy fans. Sadly, there is little hope for that. The club will be owned by a Jones for as long as there is football. For them, life couldn’t be better.

Why would they change anything?

While many are miserable; others have accepted the team as is. I personally will continue to be a fan, but I will not change my expectations. It is the "Jones Factor".
