I dont think so. They either just picked the name out of a hat, or picked it from past successes.
Who cares? If they are loyal to the team, know the game, and love the Cowboys through thick and then, they are all right in my book.

A bandwagon fan on the other hand is a joke.

Dont hate them for supporting their local team. Nothing is worse than a Cowboy fan that has never set foot in Texas.
That's the old geography argument. It's completely baseless. Fan loyalty knows no boundaries.

When the Oilers moved I had people ask if I was going to switch. I said no the only team I root for is in Dallas.

Absolutely right! My best friend, who I have known for over 30 years, is a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He has pulled for that team through thick and thin. Believe me, we have had some fun "discussions" over the years. He has visited Pennsylvania only once in his life. Tell him he is not a true Steeler fan, you liable to lose some teeth;)

Exactly. When folks used to throw that argument at me, I would pose another one first. My argument was, "If geography is the only prerequisite for fan loyalty, wouldn't that also mean that when someone moves from one place to another which has another team, doesn't that someone have to change teams also?"

Those who gave the argument some thought agreed, while others who immediately replied also usually disagreed. It's kind of funny when you think about it.

I live in AZ and I can't stand it. Two years ago no one was a Cardinal fan anywhere in AZ. Now this year everyone's asking me how I feel about the Cards, or the people that know that I'm a Cowboys fan rub stuff in my face (hey more power to them I guess we did lose to them). But it just irritates me to no end that now everyone's a Cardinal fan in AZ and people ask me why I hate them when I've lived in AZ my whole life. Uh...news flash I've been a Cowboy fan since birth and have despised the Cardinals since birth also. No team is as big of a joke as the Cardinals, and no fans are as big of a joke as Cardinal fans. Don't believe me spend a week in Arizona.

My point is Why did he pick them? Because they were good? He picked the name out of a hat?

I just think that you have to have a connection to the area that your team is from.

I would never think about picking a team from some east or west coast state that I only know from pictures in a book.

That's a good story. He sounds like a true fan. I sometimes kid fans of other teams about the franchises they follow, but I very rarely ever question their fanhood when they claim to follow only one team. That's a true fan and I respect that... but I don't admit it very often to true Commanders fans. :)

That's the way I feel about it too. While I've "set foot in Texas" on numerous occasions, I've never lived there....but I've been a Cowboys fan since I was four. My father was friends with Staubach at the Naval academy, and for my fourth birthday my Pops got me my first pair of cleats...signed by the Dodger himself. Never looked back.

Anyone telling me I'm a bandwagon fan is basically calling me a liar. I don't like being called a liar.

some much hate for the Cardinals. they're harmless little red birds man. after they migrated west i hardly notice they exist anymore except when they break my qb's finger and my punters leg. now the eagles i hate with a passion same as the giants. the cards? they won't we in the playoffs long enough for that bandwagon to gain any speed. next week it's open season on little red birdies

You're an Arizonan whose team has been eliminated, so why not temporarily adopt the Cards?

I'm a Floridian that lives 5 hours from Atlanta, 3.5 hrs from New Orleans, and 5 hours from Jacksonville. That said, there is nothing worth rooting for over my Dallas Cowboys. Nada. Zilch.

Those teams aren't playing Dallas. And I used the word "temporarily" for a reason. No need to overthink something so trivial.

I hear you. My friend and I grew up together, as close as brothers, but we have NEVER sat together to watch a Steeler/Cowboy football game, not even pre-season (probably why we are still friends).
I agree with Hos. I will "watch" pro football when the Cowboys are not playing because I love the sport, but I have no idea what it means to have a "second favorite" team. To me, the Dallas Cowboys are the best and to hell with the rest! :star:

Just adding my two cents. Nothing more. Nothing less.

I was a Cowboy fan for years before I set foot in Texas. I was so happy to finally have my fanhood legitimated. Cried lie a Texas sheep that day.
