DeMarcus Ware believes he left 6 sacks on the field last year. In other words, if he had done one thing different on each play he could have had 26 sacks. Because of that, he's setting his goal for 2009 at 25.

Will he get it? Who the heck knows, but I like the goal.

Well Hos if he eliminates the 7 screw ups..he'll reach his goal.:laugh2:

I'll go on record and say he'll get the 25.;)

A media friend of his told me. All the articles are focused on the contract, but those aren't all the questions being asked. This was said "off the record." I love hearing this.

I should have made that clearer in my first post. Thanks for asking.

Oh, the part about leaving 6 sacks on the field was said by Ware himself in an article at the end of last season. The only thing I was told was his goal in 2009. I want to clarify that.

I'll be honest with ya, 7 more sacks by Ware would be great but I would prefer he gets 20 again and those 7 go to Spencer. Heck, I would be thrilled if Ware got 15, Spencer 7 and Igor 5.

My point is if we can get some increased pressure from the other 10 guys on defense our defense would be better off. You can slow down one guy, you cant account for everyone.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda, but didn't. There is a ton of stuff that *could* have happen last year, but didn't. You either do or you don't.

Thats the reason you practice with real effort. To get better and turn those should haves to actually statistics.

totally agree with that homeoflegends;
thats what you want, when team start doubling or tripple teaming ware, spencer and ellis must come through, igor must get some sacks too along with ratliff and linebackers, that way no team can or if they shut down one player, the other players are coming, thats when you have a dominant defense

now at same time, wouldnt mind say ware gets 24 sacks, or 25 so he can keep the sack record kinda safe for awhile but other defenders must get sacks too, thats a definite must

Let's not forget the fact that Ware's sacks really were felt when Wade took over this defense. If Ware says he left 6 sacks on the field, that refers to sacks he knows he should have gotten in the context of the play. If Wade had coached this defense from the start of the season, you have got to add a couple more sacks along the way, simply based upon the fact that Briant Stewart wouldn't be coaching. And if Newman was healthy, and they were playing more man from the start, who knows what he would have topped the mark at.

Regardless, his goal fires me up. I think he's hungry and isn't going to fat cat a season because he gets paid.
People who love the game don't fat cat a season, no matter how much money they get paid. Ware seems to love the game and does everything to try and give himself an edge, including karate.

When the Merriman vs Ware debate was going on and those of us who said that if Ware played in the same style of defense that he would produce just as much if not more total sacks pretty much hit the nail on the head.

I love D-Ware. He's my second favorite player on this team, behind Witten, and I love hearing this because it seems pretty clear to me that he's not out there just be the highest paid defensive player, which he of course would like to be, but also because he wants to leave a lasting impression on the field during his career. You can tell that D-Ware doesn't want to be just good, or great, he wants to be the best ever.

I will be rooting for him to nail down those 25. That would be awesome.

The problem with the argument is that people had to trivialize Merriman, as if he wasn't good. Hyping up one doesn't have to include dissing the other.

Ware is really good at going for the ball as well, it seems there has been at least 6 or 7 times where he has swatted and barely missed the football.

We need a lot more turnovers next year.

This is so painfully cliche. I actually winced a little bit.

Thats because people were trivializing Bill and Jerry and saying we took the wrong player.
