This Might Fire You Up

Thats because people were trivializing Bill and Jerry and saying we took the wrong player.

Really doesn't mater at this point. It's obvious they got the right guy for Dallas and it's pretty obvious Merriman is also a stud player when he's healthy. I think both teams won in that draft, for sure.

When the Merriman vs Ware debate was going on and those of us who said that if Ware played in the same style of defense that he would produce just as much if not more total sacks pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Very good point

Pretty simple conclusion to draw -- if he rushes the passer more times per season he will have more sacks.

It was fairly obvious at the time too because even though Ware was a monster pass rusher he was really good at dropping into coverage and getting into the passing lanes.

All this considering we lined him up in the same spot every time.

Merrimans problem was he was extremely one demensional and sent on every play to go chase the QB. Even if that mean neglecting the run.

I don't know if I have mentioned this before but I really like DeMarcus Ware! Man I'm glad he's a Dallas Cowboy!

This is so painfully cliche. I actually winced a little bit.

You know why clichés exist? Because they're true. People just don't like it when someone points out what should have been obvious, so they inauspiciously refer to what was said as a "cliché".

Cliché or not cliché is irrelevent as the fact of the situation doesn't change.

It does make you wonder how many sacks Merriman could have finished with if he has played all 16 games the year he produced 17 in 12 games. (roids or no roids)

Everything about ware fires me up.

I can not wait till he comes out of that tunnel against the giants at the home opener...90,000 people are going to let him hear how much they love him and it is going to be awe inspiring.

How many days till we play the giants.

Too dang many! I can't wait!!! :starspin:

What is more impressive is that his goal going into the 2008 season was 20 sacks.

I wonder how many times he were held by defenders, or he slipped, grabbed the guy but he broke lose, he really is a monster out there. If we could just get a pulse from the other side, look out.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda, but didn't. There is a ton of stuff that *could* have happen last year, but didn't. You either do or you don't.

Thats the reason you practice with real effort. To get better and turn those should haves to actually statistics.

Isn't that Ware's point? He is going to do the things to get better and improve his game. He is going to work on improving his pass rush, so he doesn't leave those same types of sacks on the field and instead turns them into statistics.

Could not agree more.

DeMarcus Ware believes he left 6 sacks on the field last year. In other words, if he had done one thing different on each play he could have had 26 sacks. Because of that, he's setting his goal for 2009 at 25.

Will he get it? Who the heck knows, but I like the goal.

Yes, this does get me fired up.

Ellis, Spencer, Spears and Bradie (i.e., the left side of the defensive front seven) registered 19 sacks. That's compared to 24 from the right side. Obviously Ware makes that difference, but it's not like we weren't getting production from the other side.

Carp is dedicated to playing 26 snaps on defense. Thy will be done.

Yeah, we led the league in sacks by far. You don't get close to 60 sacks with only one guy producing.

Catch, you're right, though... I remember those debates.

I'll take the under.

One thing Jerruh should have been doing during the offseason was working on the NFL officials making them look at the tape when they were penalizing ware for being offsides when he wasn't. We need to keep working that so that the word gets out to the officials that ware is just lightning quick, not offsides.

The "Ellis will be cut/traded this weekend" choir ought to brace itself for disappointment.

I agree with that too. I just believe that the left side should generate more consistent pressure. I don't think Bradie's numbers should be counted w/the left side, at least half of his sacks came from the right side when he lined up in the 46.

Also, Rat will shade the right side quite a bit as well. If anything the most consistent complementary pressure came from the middle of the line, not the left side. In addition to Rat, both Bradie & Burnett would shoot the middle gaps very effectively as well.

Cowboys need more consistent pressure from the left side.
