I had not thought of it this way but it makes sense. In other words, take one step backward to gain two steps. We may have a losing record for 2024 but in 2025 we can still have our core players, clean books, ton of cap space, and high draft picks. MM will be evaluated not on W/L record but on his ability to keep the team competitive or from quitting.
yes very good point, but don't you risk the chance of paying more instead of getting it done now??

Watching this cluster-cuss of an offseason has been brutal. This is how I feel watching this FO “handle” decisions following the GB dismantling:

chris-farley-chris-farley-car-skit.gif
yeah this year is just more of the same. The team actually never tries to go for the Super Bowl. They just dont care.
Jerry wants a middle of the road team. His biggest fear is to be irrelevant and not be discussed. His ego is so fragile he cannot be out of the spotlight

Competing for the playoffs is what he cares about. There was no reason to keep Big Mike when Vrabel or Bill B are out there.

In 1989 a complete teardown had us at 11-5 by year 3 and SB winner by year 4. Rebuilds are even faster now.
Teams go all out, and try to reach the SB. This team has stopped trying since 1995. Ok I will be a bit nicer, 2007 is when they tried.

What makes you think that? Yes I'm serious.

They have a plan and are executing it. You don't agree with it. Doesn't mean they are lazy and don't care.
Exactly, we're not agreeing that we love the way they do things around here but they definitely have a list of free agents they're going to go after depending on how the draft falls...

they probably have a list of possible trades, they have probably a list of possible undrafted free agents ,they do this every year there is a very large pull up very solid free agents out there they don't really get going until after the draft...

I understand the frustration but not that the fact that these fan bases aren't used to this by now...

why complain this much sooner and sooner every offseason when you know this is coming??

I don't care what all in meant to you all it doesn't matter what Jerry says...

all it matters to me is they put together a roster that's competitive and has a possibility of getting to the playoffs this year, the rest of it will work itself out or it won't. It's five months until game 1-2 weeks before the draft there is no panic mode it doesn't matter right now whoever looks better on paper it doesn't matter, we've already talked to this at nauseam there's hundreds of these posts already that we're trying to calm people down use common sense this is just how our front office works.

I mean I've sat around and watched our own division be more aggressive than us literally Washington and the New York Giants have spent more money in free agency the last three years than anybody else in our division that would make the Eagles start the Cowboys 4th but how does that actually look in the standings you'd flip that upside down now wouldn't you now how does that happen at the front office is this clueless and doesn't have a plane at all no they're playing just doesn't match up with the fan base the fan base wants big names they want a lot of talk about superstars being added to this team so they can have more hope..

However we all know that paper champions don't always work out in many cases most of the teams that are the most aggressive in spending are not the ones winning late in the season you know the playoffs and the Super bowls that'd be the Kansas City Chiefs and I realize that some of those other teams have got to and or won a Super Bowl like the Rams but for the most part 28 teams pretty much run their offseasons much like the Dallas Cowboys but they've done it both ways and there is no blueprint literally it doesn't matter if you went out and got two or three the biggest names and free agents that doesn't set you up for an automatic Super Bowl win or everybody would do it..

Again, I am in no way agreeing that this isn't frustrating but I've learned a long time ago to not have any expectations and just watch the games... We can debate the roster on how they actually play on the field once it's assembled 5 months from now....

We will know in February of 2025 whether this was a bad offseason or not...

I truly believe this........some trusted adviser(s) have convinced Jerry and Stephen of some sort of plan to clean up Dak's contract mess. Jerry has always been sensitive to fans/media criticism, especially national media but he's sticking to his guns.

The only thing that has a chance of catching Jerry's eye is an empty stadium, and I think I would enjoy seeing that more than 5 straight 0-17 seasons. Jerry cares more about butts in seats than he will ever care about the win / loss column. He convinced himself many years ago that because clueless fools keep filling up the stadium he must be doing everything right. There's no pressure to change.
But it wont be empty because fans from other teams will fill it. It's a win win for Jerrah.

True but Dak's contract is the elephant in the room. They can't do much w/o cleaning that up.
Fans forget, Jerry and Dak/agent said earlier that they had mutually agreed to hold off on an extension.

I don't know which way to take this as to why they're ok with this.... Could the front office be a little Leary/using the playoffs as a hindrance

The Agent realizing that his client feels a certain way after being called out by teams family members, knowing that the cowboys are tight with money?

YES!!!!!!!!
Everything they have done, or not done this offseason is way too far off from their norm. Not sure who it is ( could be Jimmy, Parcell, Belichick etc) but I am 100% convinced they are listening to someone outside the Star. And no that person(s) doesn't have to be on the payroll or have some sort of official advisory role as some fans suggested.

man if I could give you a gold jacket and put you in the hall of Fame!!!!!!! Post of the day!!!! Doubt they would EVER say they listened to some influence, but Jerry will say "in the end, I make all the decisions, that's how this team was designed!" lol

I feel like Raiders fans did when Al Davis was near the end. Just one old guy in cognitive decline still clinging to the glory days.
Ohh yeah??hmm what years were that exactly??

how were the Raiders playing exactly I mean did they just win three straight 12 and five seasons two division titles three straight playoff appearances and five out of eight years that Prescott is healthy we've been to the playoffs is that where they were I mean they're not there now I mean how lucky are the Raiders to have lost al Davis owing to be in the same position since he left what exactly has the Raiders done since he left exactly?

Some of y'all really don't know how to judge what actual successful is and is it just because you don't like the owner and you feel like he's holding this thing back you forget to look at some of these teams you're describing you I feel like you think we're A5 and 12 team you literally some of you really have a bad perception of what's really going on it could be far worse and I mean it could be way worse yes like the Raiders..

sure worked out for them..lmao finally davis gone we can stay the same!! or worse YEA!! so that little box is post ALD and somehow some of y'all and y'all are some terrible fans you think that that record from 2011 to 2022 is somehow related to what's happening here with our current Dallas Cowboys team who's been a top six team the last five years and literally since 2016 again we've been to the playoffs 5 out of eight years one quite a few divisions literally may not be going far in the playoffs but we sure aren't the post AL Davis Raiders...2 winning seasons in 11 years since he left..

What about this offseason bothers you? We've watched the same thing for the last decade. Now if you're talking about their response to the GB embarrassment by not only staying the course, but by upping it and not paying anyone as a result, I'd agree with you.

I cannot think of ONE positive thing that has happened for this team since the January playoff loss.

Not one.

Are we a better or worse team 3 months later? Exactly.

easy stop following, move on and be mentally healthy,,i hear KC needs more fans..maybe Philly hmmm

posts like this sum this up for me people, Dallas ALLEGED Fans, who are impatient, entitled, they feel like if things aren't done on their timeline that it's just broken and not going to work ,

you do realize that most offseason look like this, I mean they typically wait till after the draft to go after the other free agents left in a very large free agent pool, draft , more cuts and trades to come!!!

five months from today is when we should start really discussing our roster and our concerns with the roster since it's not been built quite yet, I don't believe any team before the draft is ready to play game one...

So if it's frustrating,
you maybe you should take a break..
maybe you should delete all your push notifications that are attached on social media with the Dallas Cowboys name, don't come here for a while ,and then wait until it gets closer to the start of the actual season that have all these posts hundreds and hundreds of people upset with an off season that has five months left to build, 2 weeks away from the draft, and you're very upset...
well it sounds like to me you could use a vacation from the Dallas Cowboys literally just cut yourself off for about I don't know 6-8 weeks come back here around training camp maybe we could actually discuss a roster that might be shaping up to be the starting rotation for the Dallas Cowboys for September!!

So the more of these I see the more I'm going to respond of how ridiculous it is to call this a brutal offseason when it has yet to actually take shape. 3 three straight seasons of disappointing offseasons for this fan base has turned into 36 wins two division titles three straight playoff appearances and we've been in the playoff five out of the last eight years when we had our quarterback healthy we've been competitive and yet everybody every offseason earlier and earlier are more and more unhappy and judge the same offseason the same way and yet somehow it's worked out at least for the regular season.....

I'm not sure how you guys aren't used to this literally it's the same almost every year they will put a team on the field before game one but right now it's way way too soon to be worrying about this crap!! :oldcouple:
Crazy that there are still fans that think those three “12-5” seasons mean anything. Jerry loves you and appreciates your support

The sad reality is that this team can’t win critical games and is outclassed by the best teams in the NFL by a wide margin, and we have a FO that believes (like you apparently) that we are “hanging around the rim.”
