I hope you're right because I see Dak regressing. Just don't see Trey as any long turn solution. What it looks like is Jerry being the gambler again and hoping he can strike oil for the 3rd time with an unproven or low drafted QB. If Trey was all that I just don't see the 49ers giving up on him so easily.
The jury is definitely still out on Lance, but they have two years minimum to get their own assessment on him.

He never really had a chance in San Francisco. I saw it reported that he had the fewest starts of any top 5 pick in the modern era.

I have to wonder how many people see the draft slot Lynch was taken in and think this is a great day.

Two years and the 9ers couldn't coach him up. Now people are claiming he will need another two years. That isn't the way this league works. Not now.

When you think about Brock Purdy was the heir apparent and Lynch couldn't be supplanted by the guy Dallas just acquired, that should tell the tale on Lance. And Purdy was a product of a terrific team around him.

Ohhhhh, he can run the ball. So now the running back position is close to worthless and Dallas traded for a QB/RB. When they say this is a copy cat league, Jerry watches Hurts and thinks he needs one. He ignores building a team from top to bottom and having one of the best offensive lines in the game.

And Jimmy Johnson still isn't in the Ring.

Your last statement is why you’ll never be happy, even if they win a SB. You’re stuck in the past bro. Who cares about Jimmy Johnson anymore. That’s about a pissing contest between two grown men. One feels betrayed, the other feels disrespected. Who cares.

So predictable. Lance means nothing to Dak's status.

If you were laying attention the Cowboys wanted to draft a developmental QB this year. None of the guys they wanted were there for them. So they just spent a 4th on Lance who is still just 23.

Lance means more about this team's faith in Rush and Grier than Dak. I know Stephen A. Smith is salivating right now but really this is all there is to this.

Bart Starr won a quarterback competition.
Terry Bradshaw won a quarterback competition.
Roger Staubach won a quarterback competition.
Joe Montana ....... eh, sort of. I think Plunkett and DeBerg were there when he got there.
Troy Aikman won a quarterback competition.
Tom Brady won a quarterback competition.

It's not going to hurt Dak (or Lance) to fight for the spot. And if it does, that's not the guy you want.

But I think Dak is mentally tough and this will hopefully make him better.

Exactly. People that think this means that Dak is in for a do or die season are going to be disappointed. It means an extension is coming.
Sadly I think you are right but at least I got my wish. I've been saying it's organizational malpractice not to be drafting a QB every year from here on out regardless of the round because you never know. So we at least got somebody in the building and we can kick the tires on him for a couple of years.

I think Dak starts hearing the boo birds a lot more this year and I think he will begin to press which is never good.

Nonsense....Trey Lance was given the keys to an Iconic franchise and spit the bit..don't have to create sob story for this kid....He had an awful injury... 2nd surgery will be a year out in Dec 2023.
This is a fresh start with another Iconic franchise with a staff to help with recovery with Prescott as the model but higher upside in Lance.....

Trey Lance has been given the best opportunities a successful collegiate QB could hope for.

Well, that's why I was saying that. It was a brutal injury. Hopefully, he can use this time to recover and learn from Dak.

I think this offense is better suited for Lance’s skillset and he will do better here. Not sure if he’ll be a starter, but he’ll be better than Cooper Rush. Kyle Shanahan only wants system quarterbacks and it was never a good fit. Surprised he didn’t draft Mac Jones

Great job for once. Dak needs some real pressure. Lance was a high pick, comes from a winning program and didn’t play much due to injury. This gives me hope I haven’t had since 2006
He’ll have to morph into some other person because as he is now, he’s pretty bad.

There is no way this front office doesn't extend Dak. The only thing this move does is POTENTIALLY give them a young athletic backup. But right now he's not even that because he sucks.

Lol anyone who thinks this has any affect on Dak is crazy.

1. This only affects Grier immediately.
2. Trey still has to beat out rush for the #2 spot next year, by then Dak will already be extended.
This 100%, MAYBE in 2 years we can look for Lance to compete IF he shows real progress.. again best case scenario is by week 10 this year they are comfortable replacing Cooper Rush with Lance.

I think you may need to put that hope to rest, he poses NO threat to Dakota Prescott, PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've already seen Trey make throws I know Dak can't make. Maybe not this year but I would say that's a comma, not a period.

I don't see that happening. I hope they are smart enough to wait till next year so they can see trey in games that won't hurt them for real. Rush is 6-1 all time vs a guy who couldn't make the team who gave up 3 1st round picks for him. That's pretty dam bad. Esp considering that offensive philosophy is designed to be productive with less overall QB talent.

First Trey has to beat out Rush.. THEN hopefully he can show enough to compete with Dak..that would be optimal.
