Exactly what I was thinking.....we probably can't have both.
I really think Parsons needs to be moved off ball in obvious run situations. Teams are running right at him with success, taking advantage of his agressiveness.

Really starting to see a problem with Gallimore, which sucks because I've always liked him. But at the moment, he's our weakest player on the D-0line. IMHO, he could/should be trade bait to get us another WR.

On obvious run downs we need to have the front line be Golston, Hankins, Bohanna and D-Law.

Yep. I was high on Gallimore but he just hasn’t taken a step this year forward.

And in the 2nd post that you responded to, I said that he wasn't really lanky. Go reread it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The "don't think you know what it means" is a cheap shot. I really thought you were better than that. Do you want me to respond w/ your inability to comprehend the language now? Cmoooon, dude, stop. That's troll crapp.
I'll be honest, I was thinking you had the wrong idea about what lanky means too. Lanky usually describes someone with long arms and legs.

Yes, Fields killed us all day like Jones with the Giants did. The Cowboys stopped Jones in the second half by putting Wilson as a spy on him. Why did they not do that with Fields today? I don't understand why we keep letting guys who are known for their legs more than their arms run wild on us.
I'm guessing DQ was less worried about them scoring a lot of points running than throwing. Since we won decisively, it worked. Wasn't pretty, but doesn't have to be.

He is compared to Hankins!!!!!

For a DT, 6-3/305 is rather lanky. Sort of a tweener, not lanky but not stout either.
Not defending galli as a player, but have you seen his body build? Dude is thick and in no way lanky.

I watched as closely as I could, and every time I saw Galley and Osa in there on those runs up the middle.

Is it really worth it to give up those middle runs just to play lanky guys at DT?
The problem is Dan Quinn. His stubbornness to go mostly with lighter and lanky DTs is killing our D against the run up the middle. Dan Quinn is pulling a Marinelli.

While I understand your point as it relates to this particular issue, I think any post that starts with “the problem is Dan Quinn” is not one I’m going to agree with

It’s not only about the middle or big bodies .

It’s a mentality- it’s a mlb who can make the calls .

We seem to want our dt’s to hold up … hold up for LB fills - in and essence that creates a seam to slice through .

I think we’re at a point where our DT should be looking to penetrate off the snap .

Also a concern the Bears and Lions and Eagles got to the edge on us a number of times .
Partially because diggs can’t tackle a 7th grade running back - partially because our MLB has the lateral speed of a city bus .

Gallimore has no push on run plays. He just gets moved wherever the O line wants him to go. He gives you nothing on pass plays either. We might need to pick up another DT. I don’t see how the team can keep playing him.
I think that’s why we drafted ridgeway. But he got poached. And as far as I know washington is not using him either. He never got a shot,

I'm going to say what I notice. Dan Quinn is a very good coach, but he has his flaws.

I agree. Big disappointment too. I thought he would be better. I actually think Trystan Hill is better. But Hankins showed what a better than average DT looks like.

Yet they thought to make Trysten Hill inactive gameday ... which tends to tell me they don't think or value him much.

Another factor is those bulky big boys are only going to have spot play, first downs where the coaches/signal caller figure run downs/1st downs and short yardage.

So they are not there and present on several of these other plays and downs, And Quinn does play more nickel sets and packages, so having just safeties and underwhelming
DL guys are being handled vs run more often, ..and then further comes the underwhelming LBs vs run.

I think when it's all said and done the hated (by a number of idiot fans) Trysten Hill will be the Cowboys best overall DT. He's better at getting into the backfield than all the other DTs on this roster and provides the best combination of run defense and pass rush. I get that the Cowboys wanted to get their shiny new toy Hankins into the fray against a team they knew was going to run at them all day. But putting Bo and Hankins in on first and second downs is such an obvious tell that any good QB will realize that he will have all day to throw the ball on first down and throw it on first down or run it outside all day as all our ends except Lawrence struggle setting the edge and even he had problems with Fields.. Fortunately there aren't a lot of QBs as big and as fast as Fields.

I will re-watch the game at some point focusing on the DT play but it seems like the rotation got beat up yesterday whoever was in. Hopefully being inactive will make Hill mad and he will come back next game and break Rodgers in half. But the bottom line is there is no "great" DT on this team.

I agree.. Mainly I think he has fallen in love with that "Big Nickle" 3-safety look. You are not going to stop a power running team with a safety as your 3rd linebacker and a linebacker at one DE.

I don’t think Gallimore’s weight is listed right. He was 304lbs at the combine and reportedly put on 16lbs this off-season alone. He’s definitely not lanky, and I would say he actually is pretty stout. His lack of length definitely limits his effectiveness two gapping and he just doesn’t have the technique to get under offensive linemen like say Geno Atkins. It’s simply not the right scheme for him IMO and I think he made a mistake putting on weight to move to 1T.
Y'all sure focused on the "lanky" thing.

He's not the wide body we need there. That better?

It's not technique. He lacks the size to dominate the LOS and the lateral agility to stay in front of defenders and get to the ball carrier.

As much as I like Osa Odighizuwa, he really needs to be a situational player. 3rd and longs, 2 minute drills and the occasional drive to spell other players.

Good post. I am almost afraid to say Hill is the best of all the Cowboys mediocre DTs because he has such a bad reputation here. Believe me, I am not endorsing him as anything other than the best of a group of JAGs. The Cowboys are weak at DT and Hankins alone is not going to solve the problem. But he is one step towards a solution. I think more aggressive line backing would help solve the problem too.

It looks to me like the Cowboys are trying different combinations to see which one works best.

btw, Ridgeway is playing for Washington and had 3 solo tackles yesterday. Maybe he was the one who had the most potential and they let him get nabbed by a division opponent to say a roster spot for practice squad player Dennis Houston. I have a feeling they may wind up regretting that move.
