get those horse-drawn carriages out of the West End and put them to work! That'll solve some of the transportation issues.

Also, save the money and have the track events at Lone Star Park.

Then petition the IOC to add the 8 furlong track event. ;)

I'm a Dallas Homer.
Not a thing in the world wrong with that IMO.

I love the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics and I can just imagine the stadium jam packed with 100,000 seats in use.

I just think that would rock. I'd love to see the Olympics rings honored on the new stadium forever.

It runs all the way up to Plano, but I don't think goes west very far past Dallas......mostly north-south I think. It doesn't run east of Dallas, I know that.

The Trinity Railway Express goes West to Fort Worth from downtown Dallas... it also goes through DFW.

And the DART is being extended northwest to Carrolton/Lewisville as we speak.

That said, it's still a pretty limited public transportation system.

I think Dallas should get in the running for a Summer Olympics. There are several huge venues for the events now.

The new Stadium would be the perfect centerpiece for the grand ceremonies.

Maybe it's just me but I think that would be so cool.

They were in the running for the 2012 Olympics. But was not chosen. If the new stadium plans were in the works then, it may have made a difference. I know it did for Atlanta.
I think it was about 4 years ago Dallas was eliminated for the 2012.

I was not even aware of this. I think this means a good shot at a future Olympics is plausible.

Wouldn't it be wayyyyyyyyyyy too hot to hold the Olympics in Dallas in July or August?

You know you're right, a buddy of mine I work with lives in Fort Worth and takes the railway to downtown Dallas every day.

As of now it doesn't go further east than Garland I don't think....I don't know of any station in the Mesquite area (railway).....it doesn't go ino the fast growing counties of Rockwall or Kaufman right now either, both are in the top 5 of fastest growing counties in the state right now.....no stations.

For a long time they were discussing an underground type subway going north-south, under Central Expressway going from Downtown to close to Allen in North Plano, but that never happened.

The railway Express has expanded (which could be due to us losing out 5 years ago and cited transportation problems), but it is still has a long way to go.

yes way too hot, but as part of our bid package, the bid was for the first week of June when it is still not nearly as bad as July or August or even September. We were eliminated from the running back in 2001.

We tried to get them for the 2012 Olympics, but we were cut when they cut it to 4 cities. Hotels really was not the problem (we have plenty, more than Atlanta), the main problem cited was the poor transportation system we have in Dallas.......all there really is public transportation wise is DART bus/rail service......no subway system, you don't see taxis in force in the Dallas area like you would in many other major cities.........and another thing about DFW for the summer olympics is the opressive heat we have in in the Summer......we had heat indexes up to 115-120, even though the actual temp was around 102.

The new stadium will help in a certain bid and DFW working together would be the key (DFW is practically one huge city now anyway), but until we upgrade our transportation system we won't get it.

I have aquestion, if transportation is a problem, then how did Atlanta get the 1996 Olympics? They have the worst commute in the country, this is a fact, not my opinion, based on a study done by USA Today. They have virtually no taxis & limited Subway system (MARTA). The MARTA system doesn't even go out to Turner Field, which was the main venue for the Olympics before it was converted to a baseball stadium. I haven't been to Dallas, but I would have a hard time believeing it's traffic is worse than Atlanta. I have been wrong before though.

I will be in Atlanta Saturday night, though. :D :D

Their subway system hits the major spots from the airport to downtown. I would think Dallas would be a bigger problem since everything would be even more spread out.

Someone I know who lives in Atlanta said before the Olympics everyone was warned that traffic would be horrible and to stay away if possible. Therefore everyone stay away and traffic was actually good during the Olympics.

I would be sweet if Dallas could be the first team with a literal homefield advantage in Super Bowl XLIV.

I'm hoping this is a good thing for us. I went to the Panthers game after the Giants beatdown. Now I'm going to the Falcons game after the Saints beatdown and hoping for the same result from our Cowboys that we had in Charlotte. Man, I hope I'm the good luck charm.

That would be an awesome feeling, having the olympics to come to your city only to be told to stay away.

That would suck!!
