Dak Prescott's throwing mechanic is, in a word... poor. Looks like he stops entirely and raises up on his tippy toes to throw (reason he appears to throw off his back foot). Seems telegraphable; easy picks. Gotta look like you can still move when throwing...

Elliott just appears to be in a whole other league of 'natural' movement than the rest of the backfield goons.

Receiver group still looks overly pedestrian. Can we bioengineer a serviceable wideout using Ed Eagans drive/ability, mated with Rico Gathers' size (holy crap that guy is a GIANT..but didn't look too coordinated).

Yeah, none of the WR's were drafted, It seems unlikely any of this crew are going to stick... which isn't a big surprise, I have little expectations for any of those guys. Dak has some work ahead of him, I think he has the tools he just needs to refine his craft, I believe he can be a good starter if he works and develops, or at least a good backup down the road. He's in a good position though, he can learn behind Romo for a bit and maybe work some of those wonky mechanics out.

Yeah. They even mentioned it in the video about his overhand motion and how he sits up on his tippy toes to throw. One benefit of that is that it gives him a really high release point and less chance of passes being batted down. On the other hand, you're right about there being a bit of a hitch in his throwing motion. I'm sure the smoothness of his windup and compactness of his delivery are something they're already working with him on so I'd expect it to improve.

The thing is he is known for having a pretty quick release. I do think they are going to work on his motion and it will help him be a better, more accurate passer.

Drew Brees has done alright with a similar throwing motion, not saying Dak will be anything special, although he has a chance to be a fair NFL starter.
Gathers is very athletic. Check this out and try to contain your enthusiasm.

I don't think his release is similar to Brees'.

Is the Gathers comment/vid sarcasm? (can't get espn.go to load; looked kinda stiff & goofy in the mini camp footage- to be expected for his size)

It is a Sports Science piece and eye opening. Both Brees and Prescott "raise up" on trlrase, so I would call that similar.

As I "said" before, those 'sports science' excercises can be interesting, but don't really translate to squat in terms of actual football ability/success.

I disagree. Many of the top performers sighted by them are pro bowl type players or pro bowl players.

I also totally agree that Gathers is uncoordinated. Not many basketball players that reach the level he did are and I don't think he is at all. Looks fluid and athletic.

I love the idea of teaching an NFL QB how to throw a football properly. Love it.

Wasted pick.

Romo completely overhauled his throwing motion once he got to the NFL. It worked out okay for him. It's not automatically a bad thing. It just means he'll need a bit more seasoning before he's ready, but that's fine. We still have Romo here. There's no hurry.

No he didn't. Romo had an outstanding throwing motion when he got here. You don't change someone's mechanics significantly at this point, they can either throw the ball with accuracy or they can't. It was fun to hear about Tim Tebow throwing tens of thousands of passes to correct his throwing motion only to watch him revert back to his old form after about, oh, two passes.

This is a joke. This guy is supposed to be learning the nuances of reading defenses and being a competent field manager and we're gonna waste time teaching this guy how to throw a football properly. Call me crazy, but I think if you draft a QB, he should know how to throw a football already. This guy's motion SUCKS, which means no ability to throw with accuracy repeatedly. A nice throw followed by an erratic throw. Awesome.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I thought Romo had a 3/4 delivery coming out of college and pretty bad footwork. It's possible that I'm just misremembering though. It happens. I'm old. :)
