Dude has 1 solo tackle in 28 snaps.
Is that 28 plays in two games?

The Cowboys have given up 0 rushing tds.
If he only has one tackle and was in on only 28 snaps, seems to me he had very little to do with preventing the other team from scoring rushing TDs.
Or maybe this says more about the Cowboys' offense than the defense or Mazi Smith.

It appears that Mazi will be taking a lot more time to develop into NFL ready. So spending a 1st round pick on him was a big mistake. First rounders should be ready to play year one. We are just two games in, and hope by mid season or so he may be ready to be an impact player, but luckily Osa and Hankins have been holding down the fort. Not ready to put Mazi into the Taco category, but he better start working. Right now, he is more like Tristen Hill level, and that is not good.

Agree.

Never saw a 1st get overhyped like Mazi. Anointing oil.

Most of us got a first look at him in preseason.

Not good.

That pick should have been OL or RB.

Who is over hyping him. I have not seen or heard this. Yes some fans are high on him, and will be the starter at some point. But no one is over hyping him.
Seems more are down on him because he has not gotten 10 sacks and 50 tackles already when that is not his assignment.

You said the coaches are wrong. You know the guys who spend hours looking at film trying to determine the areas they need to shore up.

With 28 snaps it’s hard to determine what his impact is unless you’ve broken his film down. But, so far he hasn’t appeared to be liability (you can interpret that anyway you like) but in my opinion it means he’s doing his job.

But your statement and bravado about the coaches is comical.
Yawn

They said it was bad after two poor games, one of which they won by 20+ points. It's wrong to think that it needed some massive overhaul, it's wrong to say that it needed to be a priority in the offense, and it's wrong to act like there were major steps in improving the run defense to be had.

Coaches, players just say things sometimes. They don't always mean anything and sometimes they are wrong.

1 techs don't make a lot of tackles.

A mistake? The Chiefs wanted him also. He is an important part of the defense and should be on the team for a long time. No mistake. Osa is a 3 tech and can be used outside. Mazi is a 1 tech.

The picks are fine. Look at the standings and the scoreboard. Compare to the rest of the league. You seem to want to change the roster of a team that has outscored 2 decent opponents 70 to 10 and is ranked 1 in current power rankings.

Or maybe it says even more about teams not being able to run at him.

Geez, guys, use your heads.

A NT is like a 4 wheel drive. You don't need it until you need, but then you need it bad.

Mind blowing . . . He plays on the same line as Micah, Osa Lawrence and the rest of Dan Quinn's Pash Rushers. . . And some here want Mazi to beat them to the QB

One of His tackles for a lost was on the QB

He was on the field as much as big hank last game. They weren't ready needed. Both players played 10-15 snaps.

He's strong as hell. He needs to get a quicker reaction to the snap. He hasn't made any wow plays or any really bad plays.

About what you expect from a rookie dt

We are lucky to have Hankins as Mazi acclimates to the pro game and corrects his technique. Mazi actually has a very good first step, but he's a bit raw and is in the middle of correcting his glaring flaw. Which is standing up at the snap. Now, think about it, he's been doing it his entire football life. So, changing that is not going to be easy. Give him time.

Sorry for not using my head.

I think he is fine and think he will continue to improve throughout the year.

Can we kill this nonsense? He's played a total of 28 snaps. The idea that he has somehow singlehandedly changed the run defense is ridiculous lol.

Depending on the metrics you use, the run defense isn't even better. It's better by EPA (though unsustainably so), but worse by success rate.
I never said he "singlehandedly" fixed the run game. Earlier I said you draft a 1T DT to fix the run game and handle double team blocks. I realize he's learning and getting up to speed. And, to date the run game up the middle does appear better than last year.
