Time will tell but this sounds right to me. I think we always just expect players to go from college to the pros and be plug and play guys when taken in the 1st round, but Mazi has years of one technique he was used to at Michigan and has had just a few months to completely rewire his brain and muscle memory. It'll be a process if DQ wants Mazi to attack more than he did in college. One of the toughest pieces for a Dlineman to learn is how to read blocks while moving forward at the same time. Mazi has always been slower off the ball giving himself more time to make his reads. The big question I have is did Michigan do this with all their DTs or did they have Mazi go with a slower approach because he struggled to be the more aggressive DT at the college level?Broaddus said on the Fan this week that he thought Mazi was playing too much read and react technique he was taught at Michigan, causing him to look slow footed at the snap. Said he is caught between techniques, but that when he did what the Cowboys told him to do, he looked just fine. We'll see if that pays out during the season. Also mentioned sometimes he sometimes looks tired and it may be a conditioning thing they need to work out with him. Both appear to be solvable.
