The earliest a release can take place is after the 2023 season and given his 2023 cap hit is at $13.8M there is no need to restructure him. Allow him to play out 2023 and if he still looks 'off' then you split the $6M in dead money between 2024 & 2025 while saving $8.5M against the 2024 cap.

Management should have known that Gallup's production would be iffy in 2022. Many of us posting here on this forum knew it. The Cowboys needed players/production at the WR positions and chose to go with a rehabbing Gallup and a Steeler throw away in Washington. The team traded (sorta) Cooper and bet big time on Gallup. The failure to find good talent to replace Gallup and Cooper really hurt.

Gotta give this kid next season to see where he is at. That injury must have mentally and physically play into some of his performance this season.

Didn't look good. Probably came back too early. Hopefully he isn't ruined and turns it around next year.

He was awful.

Seemed like he gave up on routes as well and that has nothing to do with injury
I obviously bow to your medical knowledge, however. changing direction, even on a curl must be a strain on the knee.

I mean OBJ didn't even take the field and as many have said Peterson set an unprecedented recuperation that is the exception.

I think he returns to form next season, if not he is an easy cap savings cut

We won't really know till this upcoming season. Most people knew this past season was pretty much going to be a wash.

I'm definitely ok to give him next season to correct course. I think he was just rushed back and not in a groove. He seemed to be getting better towards the end of the season. He came down with some nice catches from Dak and his high thrown balls.

If he doesn't get better next season....peace! Just move on.

Agree on the high throws. Mentally Gallup had to be thinking “ if I land wrong”. We never seem to have quick hitter plays. CD did have a few , but the Moore style wasn’t designed to get the ball out quick, using slants etc....

And maybe Moore did call some, but Dak just doesn't seem to know how to lead his receivers. How many times can you think where the WR had to reach back, jump up, stop short to catch a ball? I'm sure a lot. lol

We will find out next season in LA. I'll be curious to see how their offense looks.

He definitely didn't play like he had a lot of confidence in his leg, but he needs to improve as a route runner. His routes are pretty lazy, and does not help his quarterback.

There is a difference in rehabbing and doing work to get ready for the season.. This off season he can put in his usual work and be ready for the season instead of getting his knee healthy.

This was one reason I wasn't keen on signing OBJ. I know he had done it before but I don't think he was anywhere close to being game ready. He could have gone out and run routes but not like he would have been expected (paid) to do.

My thought is that Amari Cooper #1 + Cee Dee Lamb #2 is far superior to Cee Dee Lamb #1 + Gallup #2. Even before the injury.

The young man was paid handsomely this past off season to be that 2nd guy. We all know he came off an injury, and was maybe rushed back too soon due to our lack of adding talent. With that said, he's got a handsome cap number this upcoming season. Do we let him play at that number, do we ask him to take a pay cut, add more years to his deal or what??? Is he a guy that can actually be that 2nd WR for us? I think this off season is big for him, seeing and having more confidence coming off that injury in how he'll progress. Please give your thoughts!
Prescott to Gallup. How do you even stop that?

This part right here (bolded). I look for Gallup to have a much stronger season next time around. Cowboys have a lot of WRs they should try to develop some of them...they only need to find like 2 WRs, they don't have that in house?

Gallup AAV: 11.5M

Davante Adams AAV: 28M

WRs are expensive.

His 2022 and 2023 salaries were guaranteed. They save zero by cutting him.

They can cut him after 2023 and it will have been a 2-year, 23M contract.

After CD, all our WRs were 3rd string talent at best. We need a possession WR who can run routes, and catch the ball.

Thoughts?
He’s absolutely terrible - in every facet .

Automatic release imo .
