our roster is already filled with eminently replaceable guys,,i would be happy if we hit on one or two of those 7th rders.

That's fine, but it would be more useful to use at least one of those seventh rounders to move around on the last day of the draft and target players who actually have a chance to contribute instead of hoping to get lucky with six of the least desired players in the draft.

At least we don't get "Mr. Irrelevant" (Houston gets pick 256, so they go first and last). Probably hard to package that pick in a trade...

So, some context is in order. You could package 3 7th's and maybe net a 5th, but they don't have a lot of value nor will have much if you want to move up in Rd. 1 or 2.

Another way of looking this, in my opinion, is that you keep all 6 and literally draft 6 DL and hope 2-3 of those make your roster and an impact.

Overkill? Maybe. Keep in mind we played 20 different linemen last year which may be unprecedented in NFL history. This is one of those years where I value that late round quantity over quality provided you're not spreading it across the board in non-necessary areas (i.e. TE's).

I actually think you can use those on who are your top URFA's after the draft like Leary and Beasley for instance and get them then, instead of hoping and paying more to land them.

I do like the 6DL idea however as well. Sometimes college ball isn't your thing and you get to the pros and become a stud....it's happened countless times as we all know.

I don't like the 2009 draft approach. It's like buying a bunch of scratch-offs and hoping one is a winner. I'd much rather use a couple of those sevenths along with a fourth or fifth to move up somewhere earlier on the third day and make sure we get one of the last guys remaining who is more likely to contribute.

I apologize if I missed the post in this thread, but how did we get the 2 extra non-comp 7th rounders?

Given the depth in this draft, if Jerry & Co. stick to their draft broad and avoid getting 'cute', those 6 picks in the 7th round represent a valuable commodity.

Our new pick order is 16, 47, 78, 119, 158, 229, 231, 238, 248, 251, and 254.

Where did we get the last of our own three 7th rounders, the one that was 215? I know we had ours and the Bears. Was there a conditional pick or something we got from the Chiefs?

That's going to be six 7th rounders. I hope they take a few guys who only fell due to injury and could actually be good players in the future. I just don't see six 7th rounders making the active roster. It would be nice having a few guys that might have been 2nd-4th rounders even if they spend their rookie year on IR.

We traded our 6th round to the Chiefs for Edgar Jones and also got their 7th round.
We traded TE Rosario to the Bears for their 7th round. It was a conditional pick at the time.

in 2015 we get the Chargers 7th round for Lissimore
in 2015 we traded our 7th to the Colts for Rayford, and it's a conditional pick.

Outside of WR, OL is deepest in this Draft. Guard and Tackle depth is outstanding.

DT and Safety are very deep as well.

Pass Rushers (DEs/OLBs) and CBs not as deep as the rest of the field.

16, 47, 78, 119, 156, and 231 are our natural picks. 248, 250, and 254 are Comp picks awarded today. 229 is a pick we got from the Bears for Dante Rosario. 238 is a pick we got from the Chiefs in the Edgar Jones deal.
