So, some context is in order. You could package 3 7th's and maybe net a 5th, but they don't have a lot of value nor will have much if you want to move up in Rd. 1 or 2.

Another way of looking this, in my opinion, is that you keep all 6 and literally draft 6 DL and hope 2-3 of those make your roster and an impact.

Overkill? Maybe. Keep in mind we played 20 different linemen last year which may be unprecedented in NFL history. This is one of those years where I value that late round quantity over quality provided you're not spreading it across the board in non-necessary areas (i.e. TE's).

The amount (20) of dlineman was the largest number used by any team in the last five years. The next most DLinemen used by a team in that five year period was 16. Most teams used 9-12 in a year. Averaged 10.5 apparantly.

We have found people way down there. Romo, Austin and Bailey. There are people who can play at the end of the draft and the supplemental picks, which these basically are in theory. It's a huge crapshoot down there so I hope they do their homework. What you want with these six 7th rounders are people who can make the team. They make about $400k. So if they make the team at that price, that is more money you can pay the people at the top.

We need bodies at the OL and DL right now.

16, 47, 78, 119, 156, and 231 are our natural picks. 248, 250, and 254 are Comp picks awarded today. 229 is a pick we got from the Bears for Dante Rosario. 238 is a pick we got from the Chiefs in the Edgar Jones deal.

Thanks to you and Jazz Cat.....couldn't figure out the extra 7th. I knew the Bears one....and none of the sites I looked at had the Chiefs pick to us. In fact, it still doesn't list it on the draft tracker on NFL.com. ESPN's site does have it.

We traded our 6th round to the Chiefs for Edgar Jones and also got their 7th round.
We traded TE Rosario to the Bears for their 7th round. It was a conditional pick at the time.

in 2015 we get the Chargers 7th round for Lissimore
in 2015 we traded our 7th to the Colts for Rayford, and it's a conditional pick.

Great to know, thank you for the info jazzcat :) For some reason i completely forgot all about those!

If the Cowboys learned anything in the last two years its injuries will kill them. Getting as many players in camp will prevent the scouring ice cream shops for warm bodies. Don't get clever and hope they can pan out by just not being terrible. Also they will help a capped out team.

Exactly this. Having the extra sevenths that you have to use basically means we have the head start over the undrafted free agents. The idea there in that round is to draft and secure the rights that we would have pursued with signing bonuses as we have done with UDFA in the past. That is one advantage we have had in that realm, we were willing to pay them, in some cases even more with bonuses to entice them to sign. If the scouts do their homework and we stick to grabbing the players that are still left on our board, it should work out well. And be cost efficient.
