Time for the tough, no homer assements

in 2004 our kicker was 24th in points 76% made

2003 kicker was 20th in points 78% made

To Compare with the 16th rated kicker each year they are around 80% and 100 points give or take

So as you see even under Hoffman our kicking game was below average

Agreed-Hoffman may have been a fine kicking coach, but surprised that everyone here thinks he's some baby-sitter at your local daddy day care.

Trip, I mean no disrespect to you, but this is ***ing football. A mans sports. You don't need a baby sitter for men.

Then what are coaches for? To teach fundamentals?

The fact that he's unemployed isn't the issue.

Richie Cunningham and Billy Cundiff and all the rest are unemployed, too. Those guys were pretty good with a baby sitter.

Cunningham was good for 2 years like 8 years ago his final year here he was 54% BTW under hoffman

as for Cundiff he never hit 80% under Hoffman

To put it Bluntly, we need a kicker.

How did we rate this year?

What's the difference? We were mediocre then, but poor now. Do you accept mediocre?

It sure didn't work for KC when they hired Gunther Cunningham to coach the D last year.

about 74% not far off Hoffmans averages of the past 5 or so years, yet we did it with street trash

Trip, they missed Fgs of 34 yards and less. Extra point distance. There are no fundamentals for those type of kicks. If you can't make extar points type FGs without a baby sitter, they should be right where they are. In the unemployment line like Hoffman.

Parcell's has done a great job ....
when he first got to Dallas there was No hope for the future.....
Emmitt was a shell of himself and there was No one that you knew would be good enough to help us do great things....
Now there is Ware , Canty , Julius ,Barber, Crayton and many more.
That is a far cry from the Hambrick days

agreed in 2003 the only player on the team i had any hope for in the future was Roy

Those are exactly the kicks you need someone like Hoffman for. Any "street trash" should make them, and they have in the past. They cost us games this year.

was hoffman gonna run out and kick them?? They missed because the kickers were soft in the head. Pressure got to em. Hoffman was a babysitter he couldnt have helped them make those kicks. Our Kicking % dropped like 2% points without him, how much was he really doing to earn his cheack as the ONLY kicking coach in the NFL

We can't afford to roll the dice on 2nd level kickers. If you have a really good team, a kicker can handicap you.

There are several Kickers becoming FA's and we can get one of these.

Trip, leave it alone dude. Your arguing about the importance of a guy that tells you how to swing your leg. If Hoff was that important he should have kicked the bastids. And every other team should have knocked his door down to sign him to the highest salsry for a kicking coach, but they didn't. That should tell you how coaches fell about kicking coaches.

We can get a good deal for Edinger-this guy's a pretty darn good kicker. An awkword looking one, but he always gets the job done.

If you ever post another thread with Jose Crtez being a possible FA pick up again, I'll ask the mods to ban you.

LOL I think he just copied and pasted a list wasnt refering to Cortez as one of the good ones haha

All right, you guys are obviously not budging.

We can go round and round, and you guys can say the kickers sucked, which I don't disagree with, but it was worse this year IMO. The situation cost us three games, i.e. it was worse. Under 40 yards we were worse. And the head coach tried to improve it by firing Hoffman. It obviously didn't work, and I think the head coach needs to be held accountable for that decision. You guys don't, I guess we disagree. We do agree our kickers suck.

I have to disagree with you. You have to blame BP. Look at the kickers pedigrees. Cortez, has been cut at least 10 times throughoot his career. Right there, that should put our headlights on. Thats like eqivulant[sp] to having starting running back of like Lawarence Phillps. Its just a bad personnel decision.

Ill agree with the point of no field goal kicker should miss from inside 35. But we get kickers that nobody wants.

Some kickers we could have had

Gramantica
Morten Anderson

Fact of the matter is, we were one game away from the playoffs. Would a veteran kicker would have won us 1 more game?
