The timetable is this season and he needs to earn his next contract this year IMO. Results have been mixed so far: nowhere near as bad as his haters pretend and nowhere near as good as his fan boys portray.
I'm not giving him $50M per year and $200M-$250M unless I see something that says he is worth it. A huge $ dead cap hit each of the next two years (if cut post 6/1) or in 2025 if he plays out his deal would suck, but giving him $250M would suck worse. The dead money would also be less than his cap hit if still here so I'd be willing to do it if I'm not sure he is the guy going forward. Football is a meritocracy and the spotlight is on him this year.

You're the general manager of this team, Dak has been here for several seasons. Knowing this and all the resources you've given him, what's the time frame that he has to go deep into the playoffs or win a championship??

Do you feel that the cowboys have a time frame on Dak being that he's been here this long. Please keep this appropriate!!!! Give your thoughts please....
If I'm the GM of this team I keep Dak as long as I can. (Assuming his play doesn't drop off, took a step back this year, worth watching)

He is easily a top 6-11 QB in the league and therefore the world.

We have to do better around him. Coaching, Skill Positions, Etc.

To me, at the end of the day, it's about the opportunity. We will continue to get to the playoffs with Dak and the more we go, the better we will do.

I like how you are stirring the drink with good posts this offseason. Keep up the good work. I was a big Dak supporter and still am to a certain extent. I think he is a good man, hard worker, good teammate, and a good but not great QB. Unlike some of the wall bangers here I root for Dak because we need the guy to succeed. The reality is he has 2 years left on his deal. That's his window. He has done a lot in the league but has failed in the big spots. You can't pay a guy $40-50MM that is not getting the job done in the playoffs. Let the morons in AZ and Cleveland do that. Dallas needs to be better. Hence, he has 2 years to show he deserves another deal. There should be no talk of an extension. Furthermore, Dallas should be drafting QBs this year and next to give themselves a shot at developing someone to take over.

PLEASE DON'T EVER PRAISE ME ON HERE, bash me all night long, the posters in here will think you're nuts for giving me good words lol (thanks), totally agree that QB we develop has to be one that can be developed and not a dinnuci kind of guy

True but he has to be better, I feel if you're making all the money you have to take your play to another level, you're obligated to

You think Dak is going to allow that with no guaranteed money next year? Wanna bet he pouts and holds out if they draft a QB in this draft?

You either haven’t been paying attention or this is a rhetorical thread

There is no timeframe

I say give him at least seven more years. He's bound go get it someday.

Dak Prescott Next Cowboys Contract: $351 Million - Highest-Paid NFL Player Ever?

Dak Prescott is presently a "$40 million APY'' player ... who is likely to soon be a "$50 million APY'' player - which could make the Cowboys QB the NFL's highest-paid player ... ever.

I think surely the front office has at least one brain cell between them but who knows.

If Prescott gets a deal like that then say goodbye to genuine blue chip players like Parsons as they won't stay around for the clown show. They play to win.

There’s no time frame or cut off point with him, as long as he’s winning games and giving the Cowboys a chance he’ll be the QB. As long as he’s the best option they have he’ll be here. I don’t believe any team has a timetable for their QB to start winning major games. If they’re winning games with them they’re staying with them.

According to sportrac Dak's salary in 2023 will be the 6th highest amongst QBs. Right behind Jared Goff. I think he's the 6th best QB in the league. You can check my official season-end rankings here: https://cowboyszone.com/threads/c-moneys-top-10-qbs-of-2022.508253/

That, IMO, makes him appropriately compensated.

If you look at it on Average Per Year. Dak's Contract is 8th highest. Right ahead of Daniel Jones and Derek Carr.

I think people get wrapped up in the dollar figure and don't take into account the QB market. It is what it is.

Personally I wouldn't have paid him. But the Cowboys will extend him again because they are scared to do what SF did. If you don't have an elite QB you've got to find ways to help him play like one in the playoffs. really hard to do when the qb gets overpaid.

QB's dont win games and they dont take teams anywhere. Teams do that.

Those that actually think of football and QB's in this light will never truly understand football or QB play.

As for that tweet, why should Dallas have to pay Dak "before the market rises"? I'm sorry but if Dak can't deliver the goods this year then it's time to move on, a few seasons of rebuilding be darned. Just because your neighbor bought a $50K electric vehicle does not mean you have to as well, especially seeing as how they constantly need recharging after only a short distance and the cost to replace the battery is more than the car will be worth.
Serious question. Why would you "move on" when you don't have a QB to replace him?

Of all the starting players on offense or defense, did anyone play worse than Dak in that 49er's game?

If they don't restructure Dak's contract, well that timetable might be sooner then some are willing to admit.

I'm sure you are speaking the same language as many fans ( maybe more now than ever ) but Jerry and Stephen are nowhere near this thinking. That's just the way it........

The only I see them even considering moving on from Dak is he and France back them into a financial demand they refuse to meet. ( see Lamar Jackson and the Ravens)
The fact remains that the FO did a lot better on the Dak deal than most of us thought they did. The contact as it stands is a bargain. Had they extended Dak a year prior to the franchise year he would have only signed for 3 years and he would probably already be making above 40 million per year.

As it stands they have more options. Another year at an average of 40m and another year to evaluate the team and whether they want to actually re up Dak.
