Is this one of the reasons why other companies have a problem with the NFL and it's network?

If by "the NFL & it's network," you mean the NFL Network channel then no this is not the reason other companies are having a problem getting it. My understanding of that problem is that these other companies want to treat the NFL Network channel as a premium channel meaning they can charge their customers an additional fee to offer it to them & the NFL wants them to include it with their normal programming @ no additional cost. Nothing more then the almighty dollar behind this problem.

The NFL Sunday Ticket package is offered by & can only be offered by DirectTV. They bought the sole rights to this package thus high demand & no competition = higher prices.

Thank you. I'm glad somebody understands the mentality behind it. I'll be blocked out of the same 5 games if not more. Looks like the NFL has got me right where they want me. I think I'll make one of those phone calls to customer retention and see what that gets me.
That's a good idea. I've been a faithful subscriber for years and have paid (literally) two or so thousand over that time. It's time that Directv gave something back! Viva La Revolution!

D-TV has a 5 second delay from the regular TV coverage, which in turn has a 7 seconds delay from the live action. So, in essence, DTV has a 12 second delay from the real action.

That may tell us that, but really there is someone in the NFL office typing the results of the play before it actually happens.

I can't resist it. It makes Sundays so much fun. Everyone over, multiple TVs set up, everyone tracking their fantasy football squad. It's magic.

I'm with you .......... Sundays are like having Christmas once a week!!!!
My son, his friends & I have a great time watching it all. I'm hooked!!

I ditched it last year and didn't miss any games. Only had to watch about 3-4 online, too.

Now the online one's weren't the best experience but at least I was seeing for free what would have normally cost me basically $50+ a game.

I really started to lose taste for DTV though, when they signed that monopoly with the NFL. Same with the Madden NFL football game. I think it's crap in both cases and that the consumer should have a choice. I don't like how al'mighty n' powerful the NFL is viewing itself these days. They need to remember it's the fan that they're actually here for. The NFL is turning into some old sell-out rock band trying to charge $300 admission to play tunes that have been heard a million times over.

Actually, it's getting so bad in my eyes, that MLB is starting to regain it's appeal. I'm back to really enjoying everything about baseball once again- the atmosphere, the fans, the passion. NFL though, they need to put a gag-order on all it's players, half the management and the media. Take a cold shower and stop acting as if it's in heat. 2009 NFL = 75% prima-donnas.

I got the Sunday Ticket for the first time when I moved to Virginia last year. I believe I was able to watch all the Cowboys games on national tv but I had a blast watching all the other games. To many times the games on national tv were a bore but I was able to switch to the game of my choice.

I absolutely LOVE the Sunday Ticket!!!

This isn't something I feel terribly strongly about, but I don't see how DirecTV gets away with their monopoly. Major League Baseball was hinting at doing a similar thing last year and there were all sorts of threats of lawsuits and Congressional investigation into the anti-trust exemption, etc, etc.

Meanwhile the NFL and DirecTV just go happily along hand and hand with their own little monopoly.

I may be mistaken, but I thought that MLB had considered carrying all of their games exclusively on their own network. Directv provides NFL programming, but is a separate entity from the NFL. Even the NFL Network does not carry its own programming exclusively. Maybe those factors were why MLB faced extreme opposition to their plans.

Exactly. Even during the time frame when my Boys aren't playing I can turn it to Red Zone HD and just let that sucker go. It's nonstop action and makes other teams interesting enough to watch. They would have to pry Season Ticket from my cold dead hands.

I've had the Sunday Ticket since the mid 90's and I don't have DirectTV as a service, I have cable. Since I was grand fathered in I can just buy the ticket.

I don't have HD, with the ticket, since my system is so old. I watch 90% of the games on cable where I do get HD. I pay the $250-$280 or whatever it is for the Boys are not on local cable...its a heck of a lot but well worth it.

I know every week that I watching my team in my living room. I check the local listing just to see if I'm going to get it in HD.

In the NY/CT area I would have missed only 3 games in the last 2 years, but before that I could miss 5 or more a year which is un-acceptable !

I love Sunday Ticket. It makes the time go by quicker whenever we have a late game. I also like to follow my fantasy players live and it makes games more exciting when one of my players makes a big play.

Plus, I live with a Raiders fan and their games aren't usually televised.

According to Wiki, here's what happened...

"On March 6, 2007, DirecTV signed a new seven-year carriage contract with the MLB. At first, it was to be an exclusive deal worth $700 million. However, as a result of viewer complaints and antitrust concerns - voiced by, among others, Massachusetts Senator John Kerry - MLB agreed to offer the package for renewal by cable systems and Dish Network."

I remember thinking how silly it was that everyone was getting all worked up over MLB's attempt to do exactly what the NFL has been doing for years.

Being that Dallas is so popular I see 90% of the games on TV for FREE in HD. There are only like two games I don't get to see per year, I'll just go to a local sports bar and endure the smoke for 3 hours to watch those.
