Is trading Dak Prescott a solution for the Dallas Cowboys?

Would trading Dak Prescott help the Cowboys chances to win the Super Bowl. Or, would paying him a contract averaging more than $30 million get them closer?...

Probably not help us next year but, with new coaching regime we weren't going to a SB anyway. Get the picks for Dak and move on.

The Cowboys would have to have him committed to a contract or hit him with the franchise tag to be able to trade him. If it's the tag, the trade value would be way down because any potential trade partner would only have Dak committed for one year.

Of course, there is the question of who would be the QB if we didn't have Dak. It's not as easy to draft a quality NFL starter as some think, especially drafting in the 17 spot.

Definitely not easy, and not an easy decision no matter which direction you go.

But I like the mention of the non-exclusive tag if he and his agent won't accept reasonable salary numbers. Take the unprecedented step of allowing your quarterback to shop himself for the best offer. If he finds one and a team willing to pay him and give you two 1st rounder, you take it. Just make sure to let everyone know of your intentions as soon as possible. That way Dak and his reps are given as much time as possible, and the team is as well.

And all of those available free agent quarterbacks will know that the Cowboys will be in the market. 'Open for business' sign out front.

I'm not interested in keeping Jones, give me a difference-maker in keeping Quinn.

11.5 sacks in 14 games vs 0 interceptions over 32 games. Easy decision for me.

In the long term probably so...........you want your QB to make good wise decisions..........what he's doing now is not a wise decision showing good leadership to the rest of the team.

I was discussing the idea of trading him. That's not what happens under the non-exclusive tag.

    Why not?

Why not tag him with the non-exclusive and allow him and his agent to solicit for the best offer they can get?

They bring that back and you decide whether to match it or make the trade with the other team?

I don’t think any team would trade for him and then turn around and pay his contract demands.

The 1 team it makes since for a little is the Colts.

Outside of the Colts most of these teams are better off waiting to see how the Brady/Brees chips fall. Heck the Colts would be better off too with one of those guys.

I don’t think anyone is trading for Dak Prescott unless the FA QB market dries up.

Isn't that up to him and his agent to worry about? 'If you think you're worth it, go and get it!'

The problem with that is....other teams know how much Dak wants and will no be willing to give up premium picks.

I'd say if Dak goes to another team and they give us two 1st round picks then that is a trade an amazing one for us, but still a trade.

Could you imagine if the Cowboys signed Brady, then the Pats offered Dak a huge deal and the Cowboys getting back 2 first round picks and a 2nd rounder also? The picks would be later in each round, but still. At least draft day would be fun.

I don't either, but I think agent and client could use a dose of reality during these 'negotiations'. I'd give them by blessing to see what they could get out there.

I'm confident that they'd shut up and make a deal with the Cowboys pretty quickly.

But this organization seldom, if ever has the guts to do that.

Meanwhile, the Patriots are doing that exact thing with the greatest quarterback of all time. With no tag at all.

    Guts vs no guts.

I fully expect the team to get bullied in contract negotiations and cave at the deadline to their demands.
