This offseason? Do they weight the pros and cons of TO at his age on the team or does Jerry say, I've got to fill a new stadium and any publicity is good publicity and this guy still brings more to the table than the distractions he brings?

I say Jerry says TO is marketing gold even if a team chemistry and potentially QB development problem and pays him the bonus.

It would take a real gutsy move by owner to try and shake up the chemistry and mentality of this team by axing TO, justified/logical or not. I don't think Jerry is the type. He's too much a showman and gambler to want to go old-school here and take that proverbial "step back" to get better in the future.

Team chemistry, mental toughness, smarts (emotional and IQ), and consistent focus are big issues on this team. TO is a part of those. TO does want to win and he at least cares (I don't mind getting upset and yelling etc, I do dislike the "it's all about me stuff" though).

This guy is 35 though and how long can you rely on him and pay him the big bucks. I do think Romo should not be expected to focus on this guy, and I don't think Romo has the maturity or the success to ignore TO to his own benefit if that is what the right thing to do is. We do try and force this guy the ball. Yes, he's a potential playmaker, but he did not produce like one consistently this year and was part of the offensive problems.

I would think it would send a HUGE message to part ways with this guy amicably, rather than in a full disaster mode. It would show a commitment to changing the psyche and chemistry of this team and build a different sort of foundation. But, I don't think it's going to happen. Partially because all the posters that would call me crazy are right in that, how do you replace this guy, we don't have a proven tool in place (RW ain't there yet). Just look at last year when TO was hurt (production slipped there too) and look at the Giants with Buress (that affected even them and they are a running team).

It would take a ton of balls and a change of mindset for Jerry, and I don't think he's on that page. Mind you, his shelling out millions has got to be starting to hurt with the lack of hits on his NFL player oil wells of late (the free agent ones anyway).

I could see TO possibly being used as a potential trade player prior to that happening, if it's possible to trade him before that's due that is.

I don't know if anyone would trade for him or not, I think there probably are teams, but we'll see.

If nothing else I wouldn't be shocked at this point if he's cut before that's due to him.

No one wants a bipolar 35 year old WR.

...yes.

As much as he is a problem, he can be a solution in the right culture and situation.

The same cannot be said of other players and coaches.

Yes, and I'd pay it in a heart beat.

He one of the very few players that shoed any heart or that they cared.

Why would you not want him on the team. Forget all the crap about Romo and Witten. It was more BS than anything.

I really hope that the WRs and Romo get together a lot more this offseason and really work hard on getting timing and such down with one another.

Good post and you are absolutely correct.

I know the TO lovers will hate even saying it... But IMO if you came out and cut TO, cut Pacman, and let Tank go -- and also let go any of the other malcontents and soft players like Carpenter and Courtney Brown -- you could do a world of good for this team.

We need a change in mentality and chemistry more than anything.

And as a bonus, everyone in the sports world would hail us for cutting TO. It would restore a lot of credibility to the people in charge around Valley Ranch.

But like the others said... Fat chance. Or slim chance. Or no chance.

Oh... oh... oh... can I answer?

PRO's:
  • w/ TO = double digit TD EVERY season with the Boys
  • w/ TO = over 1000 yards EVERY season with the Boys
  • w/ TO = 70-80 catches EVERY season with the Boys
CON's
  • w/o Witten not as effective
  • w/o Barber not as effective
  • w/o Romo not as effective
If some would only think before their agenda's and blind hatred.
(not targeted at OP... I think he is asking a genuine question)

Austin/Stanback/Hurd.....:lmao2:

Owens is a better player than Austin, but if it came down to a choice between the two now I'd keep Austin (who is a free agent I believe) over Owens simply because he can help us for years, whereas Owens is almost done. Austin also adds a real speed dimension at WR that our other guys dont have, and he is a very good kick returner.

You have no proof that Witten, Romo, or Barber wont be as effective. Witten had his 2nd best statistical season before MeO came here.

As Bill Cowher said yesterday: Austin/Stanback/Hurd, Barber, Felix Jones, Witten, Bennett, and Choice, and Williams. There is only one football to go around.
