Today in Dallas Cowboys History - Dez Caught It!

Man, it's not personal. You coulda said good night.

If you wanna continue believing your version, that's fine. But at least acknowledge that I provided direct quotes that support my position of an incorrect ruling.
Dude, your "direct quote" had a link in it that stated the rule change applied to plays like that in the future not that the NFL ruled incorrectly in 2014, thus proving my point. It's in the title, it's in the second sentence of the article and explained in detail what the rule change meant. You didn't read it, obviously and just clung onto some statement from who knows where that you desperately needed to believe and didn't research anything else. Like Parcells said, you got sucked by the media. Go click your own link and tell me I'm wrong. Lol.

what you refuse to address is that the rule was always wrong and it took this play for the NFL to admit it

It was a catch then and it’s a catch now.

Possession, three steps, a lunge to the goal line, a right forearm down, and then the ball pops up in the opposite hand.
Just based on that, it’s a catch.

But what’s even more incredible is it was called a catch on the field, and to overturn it you need clear evidence to rule otherwise. And there definitely isn’t any clear irrefutable evidence to overturn it. It absolutely should’ve remained a catch and not have been overturned.

Well dude, since you don't seem to be able to understand let me break it down for ya.

The quote I provided repeatedly very clearly said "admitted". It also said "should have been ruled". It did not say, it would be ruled differently under the new language. They said it SHOULD HAVE been ruled, which very clearly means under the rules as they were written at the time. There is literally no reason for any of this quote if you are only talking about going forward. Yet they felt the need to say it.

Yes, they did ALSO have a quote about future decisions. Well of course, it was what 3-4 years after the Dez play & they had just tweaked the language. The new version could only apply to FUTURE plays.

Just because they addressed the PAST & the FUTURE doesn't negate either statement. It certainly doesn't diminish them very clearly saying the Dez ruling was incorrect.

exactly, they hid behind the same interpretation he is using for years even though they knew the language was open to multiple interpretations & the one used to overturn was not was intended. they simply waited long enough so that admitting the mistake wasn't as hot a topic as it would have been if they had done so more timely.

This is what I have been saying since that game. The original call was a catch. The ball did pop up after he hit the ground but there is zero visual evidence to this day that it hit the ground.

One can make legitimate arguments both ways- catch or incompletion- but the original call was catch. And nothing anybody saw with an unbiased eye could say there was irrefutable evidence to overturn it.

Are you just going to repeat what you stated before as if you didn't see what I told you your admission meant? Too late bro. You admitted it.

If you go to the ground, there are rules that cover that. You can't complete a catch until you satisfy the going to the ground rules, not the upright runner rules. Did Dez satisfy the requirements of the going to the ground rule like you stated applied?

I mentioned that the rule was probably behind the athletic times but coaches and players need to know what rules are on the books at the time and adhere to them. It's black and white, shoulda be damned.

What is this gobbledegook, dude? Provide a link to this quote from thin air you're referencing. All I know is your "quote" provided a link to a story talking about how those plays would be catches in the future exactly like I said. If the NFL "admitted" ruling anything wrong in 2014, don't you think it would have been brought up on these boards through the years and in this thread well before you got here? You're doing exactly what a thread full of people did when the rule got changed: clinging to some incorrect media statement when the real answer was in that ESPN story you linked to. They were so caught up in their emotions it was hilarious.

How visual is this? The ball even rolls over on the ground as it hits. This is clearly indisputable, hence the call was reversed.

Don't know how this link is a retort. It proved what I said about the rule change.

Do you realize how incredibly stupid anyone would look by saying Dez didn't go to the ground?
You just called a whole lotta people in this thread stupid then because that's what anyone trying to say Dez completed a catch in the upright position is saying. I still don't think you understand what you're saying though because when you admit Dez went to the ground, then those rules apply. If the ball hits the ground like I just showed in my previous post that will be by in large ignored, then Dez needed to maintain possession completely afterwards. Did he? We know that's a no.

So you too are saying he didn't meet that rule's requirements, hence it's not a catch. It's either/or. He was either upright or he was going to the ground. The latter is an automatic no-catch. If the former, then why didn't he just walk into the end zone? Everyone knows this so they argue he wasn't going to the ground and try to claim he met the upright catch rules. Hard to be upright when you faceplant the ground. In that, you have answered correctly. If you can admit that, don't know why you can't take the obvious next step conclusion but I get it.

You claim to go to a link within the quote I provided yet now you ask for a link??

All I did was ask AI and posted the result.

If it's incorrect, then I was duped. Still, all that means is that the NFL didn't officially admit in so many words but they unofficially admitted it by changing the wording & specifically referencing his play in saying plays like that should be a catch.

Time for bed. Good night.

January 11, 2015. Dez caught it! Lots of debate about if the Cowboys would have won and we will never know. But one thing we do know. Dez caught it. Hard to believe it's been 11 years already.

There was a 1st down over the middle to be had, just live another day. But let's say he did catch it, too much time for AR to come back down and score. So...

Lol. So you compiled nothing then. Okay.

This loss still hurts. What a throw by Romo and what a grab by Dez. On 4th and 2 no less. Tough loss.

Although the defense wasn't very good, that team played complimentary football in all 3 phases.
If Dak had thrown that, everyone would call it a bad pass since it was under thrown. That pass would've meant nothing in the grand scheme of things. I'll say it again, AR would've taken that ball, and moved right down the field, and scored with little to no time left on the clock.
