Today In Strangeness: October 9th...

On this day in 1989, Tass, the official Soviet news agency, first reported details of a bizarre UFO incident in the city of Voronezh.
"As many as three aliens, 13 feet tall, left the spacecraft, described as a large shining ball," according to descriptions provided
by a group of children said to witness the event.

Colorado Hikers Startled by 'Bigfoot':

city of Leadville. Fortunately, despite giving those who initially encountered it a bit of a scare, most residents are fans of the
faux Bigfoot which is apparently one of many that are hidden in the wilderness around the area.

Impending Asteroid Flyby Spawns Another Apocalypse Warning:

An incredibly close asteroid flyby due to occur this coming Thursday has sparked another round of conspiracy theories suggesting that
it is a harbinger of the End Times. Stargazers will be looking to the skies later this week in the hopes of catching a glimpse of
asteroid 2002 T4C as it soars between the Earth and the moon at the distance of around 4,000 miles.

However, others see Thursday's wondrous event as something far more worrisome and, as is often the case, point to a combination of
religious and historical 'clues' to confirm their worst fears. Specifically, they note that Friday the 13th will mark the 100th
anniversary of the third and final Marian apparition at Fatima, a mysterious event which has long been connected to Apocalyptic
speculation.

Conspiracy theorists couple this historic occasion with a carefully-chosen verse from the book of Revelations that warns of a "great
sign" in the heavens in the form of an anguished woman. This woman, they suspect, is the Virgin Mary returning to Earth a century
after her last appearance in order to finish whatever chain of events she began back in 1917.

Of course, scientists and skeptics say that the asteroid flyby is simply a natural event and not a sign of impending doom. Their
stance can certainly be understood considering that 2017 has been replete with End Times expectations, including the highly-publicized
September 23rd date as well as, incredibly, another Friday the 13th warning back in January.

And, of course, there's still the October 21st apocalypse prediction still to come later in the month and, most likely, one or two
more before the year comes to an end. At this rate, should the apocalypse ever truly happen in our lifetime, it's unlikely that
anyone will believe the prediction which, ironically, is probably when the end of the world really will unfold.

'Ghost Girl' Photographed at the Stanley Hotel?:

A family visiting an infamous haunted hotel in Colorado suspect that they may have photographed the ghost of a little girl standing
atop a staircase. The eerie image was taken during a 'spirit tour' at the legendary Stanley Hotel, which served as the inspiration
for Stephen King's legendary book The Shining.

According to John Mausling, he and his family were stunned when they later looked a the photos from the gathering and spotted what
appears to be an apparition in one of the images. The chilling anomaly looks like a young girl, which further flummoxed the family
because there were no children amongst the small group taking part in the tour.

Strangely enough, the spot where the potential ghost was seen in the image happens to be the same location that another possible
spirit was allegedly photographed last year. While skeptics will likely say that the 'ghost' is simply a trick of light and shadow
or some other prosaic explanation, the Mausling family have not discounted the possibility that the really did photograph something
supernatural at the Stanley Hotel.

On this date 30 years ago, an extensive search for the Loch Ness Monster reached its conclusion. Dubbed Operation Deepscan , the
week-long project utilized sonar equipment valued at over one million pounds as well as a fleet of 24 boats. Aside from a few
anomalous sonar blips, the expedition ended with no tangible results to suggest the existence of the creature. It would not be the
last massive undertaking to scour the Loch for the infamous beast, as the BBC used a myriad of modern technological devices to look
for Nessie in 2003. Much like its predecessor 16 years earlier, this project also failed to yield an answer to the cryptozoological
enigma.

Malawi Vampire Panic Rattles UN:

The ongoing hysteria in Malawi surrounding mysterious 'blood sucker' entities has reached such a fevered pitch that the United Nations
has been forced to relocate some its staff in the country. Panic over the vampiric beings, said to possess a strange combination of
magical powers and technological prowess, erupted in the country late last month as stories of their existence spread throughout a
pair of villages. Despite an increased police presence in those communities, it would appear that residents remain unnerved by the
rumors as a total of five suspected 'blood suckers' have now been killed by concerned citizens.

The rising tension in the region was noticed by the safety and security branch of the UN, which observed in an internal report that
"these districts have severely been affected by the ongoing stories of blood sucking and possible existence of vampires." And so, in
an effort to protect their workers from vigilante mobs who are blocking roads and taking to the streets looking for potential 'blood
suckers,' the world body opted to remove some of its staff from the area.

Considering that UN workers are, by their very nature, outsiders to the communities gripped by 'blood sucker' paranoia, this was
probably a wise decision and one which apparently other charitable organizations operating in the region have also made. The government
of Malawi expressed profound dismay at the UN's decision, although all parties hope to resume working together once the hysteria
subsides.

Let's just hope that the 'blood suckers' panic doesn't stop too suddenly after the UN staff leaves or else it may be seen as a bit
too serendipitous to nervous residents in the region.

the sewer! Zul Hanif Anip captured the bizarre scene on video after he and his wife spotted the monstrous oddity crawl out of the
toilet and begin making it's way across the floor.

He speculated that the creature had been living in the pipes beneath the home, but was baffled by what it could have been since it
did not resemble any kind of snake known to him. Anip noted that the beast sported a small head and tail along with a robust body,
which made him suspect that it could have been an animal from a swamp near his home, such as an eel.

In a testament to he and his wife's bravery, the couple actually captured the creature and set it free outside their home.
unfortunately, their humane act means that it's unlikely that we'll get an answer to the mystery of what the creature might have been.

Monstrous Kangaroo Menaces Australian Man:

Based on his proximity to the creature, the young man estimated that the animal stood nearly six-and-a-half feet tall and weighed
around two hundred pounds. Although initially quite excited about the encounter, Vincent's perspective quickly changed when the
kangaroo began heading towards him in what seemed like an aggressive stance. Fearing for his dog's safety, the young man decided that

were far more disconcerting as they looked be as long as the young man's hand.

Man Blames Aliens for Crime Spree:

A Wisconsin man faces a litany of charges after repeatedly vandalizing a home purportedly at the behest of aliens!
Over the course of the last three weeks, Anouphong Inphachack allegedly defaced a residence in the city of Sheboygan on multiple
occasions, smashing windows and spray painting 'DNA' on the side of the home.

After the owners of the house reported the crimes to police, cops eventually found the 31-year-old man lurking near the home in a van
and stopped him for questioning. It was then that Inphachack told a fantastic tale.

According to the accused vandal, who actually admitted to committing the crimes, his nefarious deeds were orchestrated by none other
than aliens! Specifically, Inphachack claimed to be the victim of an ET virus that has torn his life asunder and caused him to lash
out at the home in question.

He explained that the 'DNA' message on the side of the house was his way of calling attention to the aliens having altered his genetic
material as a way of making him shorter. Why, exactly, the ETs would want to shrink Inphachack has so far gone unexplained, but the
man did reveal a bit more about his interactions with these entities.

"They are switching dimensions all the time. Setting people up for a bad time," he told investigators, insisting that "I'm telling you
the truth. The alien virus will evolve mankind."

Based on an interview with Inphachack's family, authorities suspect that he may be suffering from mental health issues.
Nonetheless, the confessed vandal has been charged seven different crimes, including two felonies for trying to set fire to the home.
And so while we may never know for certain if aliens were to blame for Inphachack's strange behavior, there's is likely to be little
argument that he has, indeed, found himself mixed up in a 'bad time.'

NFL Kicker Enlists Psychic for Help:

In a testament to the superstitious nature of sports, the Tampa Bay Buccaneer's kicker recently revealed to reporters that he has
been consulting with a psychic to improve his game. Having returned to the team following a rash of injuries and a brief stints with
another organization, Patrick Murray explained that this time in Tampa Bay may prove to be a success thanks to his work with a medium.
"There are things she has mentioned that I have told nobody and there are things that she said would happen that have happened,"
he marveled to the Tampa Bay Times.

Aside from the obvious aspect of possibly knowing ahead of time whether or not his kicks will be good, how the psychic helps Murray
seems to be more a matter of the mind rather than by way of anything supernatural. "Maybe it's just getting me to talk has helped me,
"he mused, "getting stuff off my chest and being able to really kind of feel that positive energy."

Unfortunately, the beat writers did not press Murray for any specific insights into the psychic's soothsaying skills or predictions
for events yet to unfold, so one will have to take the kicker at his word that she is a genuine medium. Nonetheless, fans in Tampa Bay
may see his surprising consultation as a potential blessing, since a litany of injuries to previous kickers on the team have given
rise to rumors of some kind of curse hanging over the position. With that in mind, Murray may have stumbled upon the only person who
can truly eradicate such a hex: a psychic medium. (Note: Murray has been on IR for most of the season...he'll need more than psychic!)

Congressional Candidate Claimed to be an Alien Abductee!:

A Florida politician vying for a seat in Congress once claimed to have been an alien abductee and recalled vivid details of her
remarkable encounter.
The Miami Herald has revealed the incredible story of Bettina Rodriguez Aguilera, who is hoping to fill a soon-to-be vacant spot in
the U.S. House of Representatives for Florida's 27th congressional district.
In a pair of 2009 interviews, which were found on YouTube, the aspiring Congresswoman shared her experiences interacting with aliens
and riding aboard an ET spaceship.

Beyond the abduction experience, she also shared some strange insights which she allegedly learned from the ETs, such as that there
is a cave on the island of Malta which contains 30,000 alien skulls.
Lest one think that Aguilera is simply a fringe, third-party candidate who entered the race aiming to raise awareness about her
abduction, they would likely be surprised to find out that is not the case at all.
In fact, she is actually running as a Republican, has been previously elected to office in the city of Doral, and has family members
that have worked with the GOP on the national level.

Additionally, Aguilera may not be too thrilled about the newfound publicity surrounding her alien experience as the story is already
generating nationwide headlines and, no doubt, causing quite the headache at her campaign headquarters.
When the Miami Herald attempted to get a response from her regarding the revelations, Aguilera was rather circumspect, noting that
Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan had seen UFOs and that the Vatican seemingly endorsed the possibility of aliens.

"I join the majority of Americans who believe that there must be intelligent life in the billions of planets and galaxies in the
universe," may have been the most forthcoming part of Aguilera's statement to the newspaper.

Considering the fantastic nature of her story, it's highly unlikely that this will be the last time that Aguilera is asked to expound
on her experiences. Unfortunately, political pundits in Florida are already expressing concern that the 'ET issue' will derail her
campaign by hurting her image with the public and costing her donors. Should she somehow manage to overcome the stigma attached to the
phenomenon and prevail in the election, Aguilera would become the first-ever alien abductee elected to Congress. That is, of course,
as far as the public is aware, since more than a few folks in Washington certainly raise suspicions.

'Dragon Skeleton' Found in China:

A bizarre piece of footage from China shows a group of villagers gathered around what looks like the skeleton of a dragon!
Purportedly found sitting in a field in Zhangjiakou City, the sixty-foot-long oddity sports an ominous-looking horned skull, a pair
of dinosaur-like arms, and an incredibly-long body featuring dozens of rib bones.

In a video showcasing the find, amazed residents can be seen and heard congregating around the strange remains with a sense of wonder.
Since the alleged dragon had no sign of any wings, some observers apparently took this to mean that the skeleton was genuine as Chinese
lore depicts the legendary creatures without such appendages.

However, skeptics have been quick to note a number of issues surrounding the 'dragon' which suggest there may be some shenanigans at
work. The remarkably well-preserved nature of the remains offer some clue as to the true origin of the creature, because many of the
bones appear to actually have come from farm animals.

Additionally, footage and photos of the villagers hopping on the back of the 'dragon' to have their picture taken suggests that the
residents knew that the skeleton was fake since they would never be so disrespectful to the remains if it were real.

The prevalent theory as to where the 'creature' may have come from is that it was placed there by pranksters who either crafted it
themselves or pilfered a movie prop to pull a fast one of the village. That said, government officials in Zhangjiakou City have yet
to issue any statement regarding a dead dragon found within their jurisdiction, so we'll hold out hope that maybe, just maybe, the
creature is real.

Ohio Woman Reports 'Ghost Possession' to EMTs:

A seemingly routine emergency call in Ohio turned strange over the weekend when a woman who had fallen claimed that it was because
she was possessed by a ghost.

Authorities in the city of Cambridge had dispatched EMTs to a home where a resident had suddenly collapsed at around 3 AM on Sunday
morning. However, when police and other emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they were left scratching their heads when the
unnamed woman informed them that her tumble was not medically related.

On the contrary, she and her daughter both told police that the fall came about because a ghost that lives in their attic had possessed
her. This sprit, they said, is named 'Victoria' and is actually one of two ghosts that live in the home as a second apparition dubbed
'George' resides in the basement.

It would appear that these forces have been a problem for the family in the past as the two women revealed to police that both the
attic and basement of the home were blocked to prevent their escape.
On this occasion, though, they surmised that Victoria had somehow escaped the confines of the attic and possessed the woman who
subsequently fell.

Unfortunately, how they knew it was Victoria and not George as well as how they learned the ghosts' names went unexplained.
The scene ultimately ended with the woman refusing medical treatment and her daughter vowing to call a priest for help, leaving
authorities with little recourse but to leave.

So while the emergency team may not have been able to help the woman, they likely left the home with a new number one story for
whenever someone asks them about their weirdest experience on the job.

New Theory Offered for Location of Legendary Amber Room:

A trio of treasure hunters in Germany believe that they have determined the location of the legendary and long lost Amber Room.
Pilfered by the ***** from a Russian palace during World War II, the exquisite paneling of amber and gold went missing at the
conclusion of the conflict.

Since that time, countless historians and armchair researchers have attempted to locate where the treasure may have wound up, but the
ostensibly secret location somewhere in Europe has yet to be found.

And now a new theory has been advanced by three scientists in Germany who suspect that they may have finally tracked down the Amber
Room. Using ground penetrating radar, the group says that they have spotted what appear to be previously-undiscovered bunkers beneath
a cave system in a series of hills near the Germany city of Dresden.

The scan also indicated that there are booby traps in the surrounding underground area, suggesting that whatever is contained in the
heretofore-unknown bunkers was considered quite valuable.

Alleged first-hand witness testimony to the delivery of the Amber Room to the area has also strengthened the convictions of the
researchers that they have found the genuine spot where the lost treasure rests.

Apparently their argument is compelling enough that officials in Germany are allowing the treasure hunters to proceed with their
investigation of the area in the hopes that perhaps their hunch is correct. The group is now trying to raise the funds to conduct a
more thorough search of the cave complex sometime in early 2018.

However, one would be wise to temper expectations as one museum curator in Russia dismissed the theory to the media outlet TASS as
the latest in a long line of "unbelievable stories."

"We would very much like it to be true," she said, "but with each passing year, hope that the room will be found is keeps getting
dimmer."

Indeed, an entirely different search in Poland made headlines just last year, yet also proved to be as fruitless as all other
previous attempts to find the lost treasure.

As with so many other decades-old mysteries, the answer to what became of the Amber Room appears poised to remain forever unsolved
while also continually being renewed by the occasional optimistic development only to be once again plunged back into the world of
the unknown. That's not to say that the searching should cease, since, as we all know, when something is lost, it's always found
in the last place you were looking for it.

Indonesian Space Agency Tormented by Flat Earth Fans:

A dispute over the shape of the planet has erupted in a rather unlikely location as the Indonesian space program finds itself fending
off Flat Earth fans who are targeting the agency on social media. The odd conflict between scientists and advocates for the
controversial conspiracy theory has actually been brewing in the country for quite some time.

It seemed to have reached a crescendo last year in what sounds like an unbelievable 'summit' of sorts where the head of the Indonesian
Space Agency, Thomas Djamaluddin, actually met with a group of Flat Earth enthusiasts. Reflecting on the showdown to the Jakarta Post,
a spokesperson for the space agency uttered only four words, but they spoke volumes: " the discussion was intense."

According to Djamaluddin, the astronomer answered every question and challenge posed by the conspiracy theorists and continually
attempted to explain why the Earth is round to no avail. Indeed, the détente did not last long as Flat Earth aficionados soon set
their sights on the space agency's social media accounts and began plastering the pages with messages about their cause.

After months of constant messages from the conspiracy theorists, Djamaluddin finally became fed up with the Flat Earth battle a few
weeks ago. "The fairytale of a flat earth is a public duping attempt," he declared on the space agency's Facebook page while explaining
that he was banning the people who kept bringing up the conspiracy theory.

Although it can't be certain, it's assumed that these individuals came from the Indonesian Flat Earth Society which boasts an
astounding and somewhat unsettling 25,000 members. Being purged from the space agency's social media accounts may quell the
conspiracy theorists for a little while, but recent history has shown that Flat Earth fans are particularly persistent, so it's
probably safe to say that Djamaluddin hasn't heard the last of them. (...? didn't even know that Indonesia had a space agency!...)

Newfound Lunar Cave Could be Home for Humans in the Future:

Scientists with the Japanese space agency JAXA has identified a rather massive cave on the lunar surface which could serve as a home
for colonists from Earth. The cavern was detected using a ground-penetrating radar system aboard a JAXA probe orbiting the moon.

Believed to be the remnants of an ancient lava tube, the cave appears to be over 30 miles deep and around 300 feet wide.
Remarkably, the discovery marks the first time that astronomers can confirm the presence of such caverns on the moon as they had
previously only been suspected.

What makes the find particularly tantalizing is that a lava tube has long been discussed by scientists as the ideal location from
which to stage a base for astronauts to begin colonizing the moon. This is because the sites would be structurally stable while also
being deep enough below ground to protect people and equipment from the harsh conditions and potential hazards on the lunar surface.

Those dreaming of someday joining the ranks of mole people on the moon may want to hold off on packing their bags just yet as experts
say it will take quite some time before any housewarming parties can be thrown. As with any move into a new property, even a rocky
cavern on the moon, a proper inspection of the inside is necessary and so astronomers hope to eventually get a look into the lava tube
to see if it is habitable.

While it would be nice to find a place where humans could call home on the moon, let's hope that astronomers eventually peer inside
the cavern and spot a bustling alien metropolis. Whether the theoretical ETs in that scenario would want us to stay is another matter
altogether.

Hundreds of Ancient Stone Structures Found in Saudi Arabia:

An archaeologist in Australia has discovered hundreds of mysterious stone structures atop lava domes in Saudi Arabia.
By way of Google Earth images, professor David Kennedy was able to find an astounding 400 of the enigmatic anomalies which he
believes could be up to 9,000 years old.

The strange structures differ vastly in size with the smallest being 43 feet long compared to the biggest which is a whopping 1,699
feet long. Known as 'gates' due to how they appear from above, the purpose of the stone sites remains a mystery to researchers.

Since the structures were largely found using only satellite images, excited archaeologists hope to follow up on Kennedy's work by
venturing to the specific sites in order to possibly discern more about their nature and possibly exact age.

One can imagine that armchair anomaly hunters may be chagrined to see the professor's work taken far more seriously than some of the
'fantastic' finds from others who study Google Earth images. That said it should give everyone hope that there are, indeed, weird
things still waiting to be noticed right here on Earth now that we can see the planet from a whole different perspective.
