Tom Brady suspension nullified

It ain't over until the fat lady sings..

Take this advice NFL

The judgment did not address the guilt or innocence of Brady, only the fairness of the appeals process. If I'm Goodell, I'm doing anything I can to dump my power to be judge/jury/appeals judge...it has made him/the league look really bad. But, Goodell being Goodell, he won't.

Nonetheless, an obvious systemic cheater from the dirtiest team in the modern era lies to the league and the public and is not held accountable. Far more damaging than a venal commissioner, IMO.

And now the league is going to appeal.

Geez, can we just play football?

The legal system is broken beyond repair.

I don't see why it's suspicious, the judge did everything short of announce to the world he was siding with Brady.

Yeah another article basically says 4 out of 5 bets at sportsbooks were laying the 1 to 3 points to bet on the Patriots. Spread is now -7. If the Steelers win it's gonna be a nice payday for the books. Or a disaster if it goes the other way.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced Brady's suspension May 11, causing the point spread to fall to as low as NE -1. With the appeal expected, the SuperBook elected to take the game off the board. Other shops kept it up, though, with the Patriots listed as 3-point favorites all the way up until Thursday's ruling.
As of Thursday morning, the Patriots-Steelers game had attracted three times more bets than any other Week 1 game at William Hill, which reported 81 percent of the money wagered as of Thursday morning had been on New England.

I disagree, while the Pats and Brady are unpopular among most fans, the league ended up looking worse. Most players and people who covered the league ended up siding with the Pats once more details emerged.

BOTTOM LINE.

Players can do anything - beat kids, beat women, cheat, pretty much everything except commit murder - and the United States legal system will get them out of it.

Dude, it's so patently and unquestionably clear that Brady was guilty, it's not even worthy of discussion.

He did it. Period.

This is the crux of the outcome. It doesn't have anything to do with guilt or innocence -- in fact, the Judge declined to rule or even reach Brady's other claims with regard to the public perception part of the case.

The ruling was solely on the procedure of the arbitration and the lack of proper notice.

For that reason, I strongly believe Greg Hardy's suspension would be reduced to a maximum of 2 games if he were to take his to court. I think there is a chance that a judge could vacate his suspension entirely if the NFLPA makes an argument for constructive suspension for him missing the previous year as well.

Exactly. This isn't a Judge saying Brady didn't cheat. Its a judge saying that the NFL totally botched its arbitration. I wouldn't be surprised if they had done this process correctly, that a neutral arbiter would have vacated all punishment because a league has to come down hard on things that effect the integrity of the game. But you have to have a reasonable logical thought out process, and the NFL hasn't been using one of those since at least Ray Rice.

It feels like, at the least, an arbiter with no prior connection to either players or management should be put in to over hear all appeals cases. Preferably someone with ample experience. Harold Henderson isn't an independent arbiter. Neither is Goodell. Make the process more logical and you probably stop losing every time you walk into a court.

or...and here's a novel idea, the NFL can stick to the punishments that they all agreed upon.

There's not an "agreed upon" penalty for conduct detrimental to the integrity of the game.

Especially when Guido had $10K on the Colts.

Yep.

I am not surprised by any of this.

I knew he would never serve a day of his 4 game suspension. Brady and that organization he works for fosters and promotes a culture of cheating. Current players around the league know it, former players know it, everybody knows it.

The Patriots strut around acting as if they are innocent and even if they aren't, people should just get over it and look the other way. Anything it takes to gain an advantage and win.

I'm sorry. I'm all about doing whatever it takes to win but not by breaking the rules over and over. It's sickening.

I hope we rip the Patriots a new one when they come down to Dallas. I just hope we put plans in place to monitor all of the balls used for the game right up until kick-off and make sure we have closed practices with no cameras in sight.

maybe, but I still think 4 games with the evidence he had was a huge over reach.

Which is what stuns me, continuously. The NFL employs the most incompetent team of legal advisors on internal/administrative matters I've seen in recent memory. I've only been around the legal profession for 5 years and I could do a better job advising Goodell on how to do investigations, discipline, and appeals hearings.

Geez.

The owners TOLD Goodell to do this. Everything he does is by their instruction. He works and reports directly to them.

They can change their mind...Goodell has alienated at least two owners. ;)

While I understand a commissioner generally follow this wishes of the owners, occasionally you have to take a stand. No need to review the erattic pattern of discipline of Goodell.

This is clear proof that the NFL botched the Dez ruling.

He caught it! Case closed...

You thought they would have learned as they kept getting dealt blows along the way. Guess not.
