having said that we all know everyone said he did it with Jimmy's team.. That said...

Barry Swizter in 2nd season won the superbowl as Head Coach..

Mike Tomlin in much the same situation is on the verge of doing the exact same thing...

I care to hear from you guys as to WHY NO ONE IS SAYING Tomlin is winning with Bill Cowhers team?

They are the same except the Cowboys had just won 2 SBs in a row, I don't think the Steelers had just done that.

At the end of the day, winning the SB is the ultimate accomplishment no matter how it gets done. BTW, the Steelers haven't won the SB yet.

There is one great big difference in ToMlin and Barry Switzer.

Two years from now if he gets fired, whether he wins the Super Bowl or not, someone will give him another coaching job.

Barry Switzer never deserved an NFL job. He was never a candidate until a night of drinking caused someone to open his festering gob, and was never a candidate again. No one would have hired Barry Switzer.

Though he won a Super Bowl he never even got considered for any other NFL job. A Super Bowl winning coach. Zero speculation about another job. Ever...

Guy was a total freaking idiot. The worst HC hire ever, and I mean worse than Campo. He just happened to have a team with talent. Dumb luck.

We should not have given him a shot. He started the spiral that brought this team down. I predicted it the day he was hired. I said then it would take 10 years to fix it. I thought Parcells in 2003 was the 10 years prediction coming true.

It was too messed up for even him to fix it all.

I wouldn't have let the guy anywhere near my team if I were the owner.

Gailey and Campo were bad coaches, but their main problem was trying to take over for that boob.

however, I see FAR FAR more of the blame on Jerry.. he picked the talent decided in FA who to get or not...

Barry was a bus driver for Jerry... that said it was the biggest no win situation even in coaching history in any major sport

Why?

1. Because Tomlin was a coach at some level in the NFL before he took over for Cowher. Switzer was basically hired off the couch.

2. Because Switzer took over a team that had already gotten to the Super Bowl and won it twice.

3. Because the Steelers of 2006 weren't anywhere near as dominant as the Cowboys team of its consecutive Super Bowl wins.

4. Because Tomlin demands respect from his squad. Switzer was basically a buffon who let the inmates run the asylum.

5. Because the Steelers had a decline from their Super Bowl win the previous year, meaning they weren't as dominant as you want to give them credit for.

6. Because the Steelers lost Russ Grimm and Whisenhunt, and yet Tomlin didn't miss a beat.

7. Who on the Steelers squad is the likes of Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin, Charles Haley and Deion Sanders - all of whom are likely to be Hall of Fame candidates? I see maybe Troy Polamalu and possibly Big Ben.

8. Who did Tomlin have as running back for most of the year? Willie Parker was hurt. Big Ben was banged up for most of the season, and the offensive line was considered a weak link in the offense. Yet, here they are in the Super Bowl.

9. Because he has been able to keep his team emotionally stable and even-keel. Observe his demeanor, then observe Switzer's, who drew ire from Ray Rhodes for disrespecting his team. Then there's Switzer who attracts attention to himself trying to bring a gun through airport security.

10. And probably most important, please tell me if you've heard a peep from any players or any coaches in the Steelers organization complaining about Tomlin? Players were chatting anonymously that Switzer didn't know what he was doing, let the players run the show, etc.

Trying to compare Tomlin to Switzer is RIDICULOUS!

I don't know where you get that I am going easy on Jerry when I call the hiring a stupid move due to the drunken nature of it.

I didn't forgive Jerry for hiring Switzer until the day he hired Parcells.
